Professional :: Unable To Change/find Instance Of Movieclip?

I adopted and existing site, and am making some changes.
Publish settings:
Flash 8
Actionscript 2
A seperate movieclip named page4 shows in the library to have 6 uses. On the clip are two text boxes both static and one has a movieclip button overlayed. Selecting any of the three changes the propery panel for allowing editing. However. Even though I can see the reference point (the cross) of the movieclip page4, I can find no way to get flash (CS5) to show me the properties to allow giving it an instance.

how to change a few flash settings. My website is done except for these few minor changes.
1) There are two flash files, a menu and a header, in the menu when the page paods the buttons are white and turn orange when you scroll over them. Id simply like them orange when the page loads and then to turn white when you scroll over them. I can figure out how to get the scroll over to white but not the first part to getting the load orange.
2) In the header file there are several pics. Beside the pics there are scroll over buttons. Id like the first button, that says domestic contract, open when the page loads.

So in Illustrator you can "Find Font" in your document so you can pinpoint and change or delete text using that said particular font.In Flash I have a piece of text using an old font somewhere in my FLA (I've updated with a new one for all text since) and I'd like to locate it and either delete it or replace it with the font I'd like to use. When I open the file it prompts me in regards to me not having this old font any longer (the font I'd like to remove) and I tell it each time to use the newer font

I'm trying to create a linkage to swap movie clip dynamically. I already create a linkage and after my movie clip symbol actuall say Export: contact_idea. But when I try to attachMovie("contact_idea"). It does nothing. Is there anyway that I can test that the linkage is actuall linked?

I have a site that plays either .mp3 or .flv files depending on what is selected from the menu. Menu loads in from xml. I get "unable to make connection with server or unable to find flv on server" when I try to play the video. But the video and audio files are all in the same directory and the mp3 files play fine. I think I'm having a problem with the setMedia command. Here's the code that loads the video and audio files.

I'm using a library that has a function that returns an instance of some class Engine.
I'd like to tack on some interfaces to Engine, so I subclass it class InterfacedEngine extends Engine implements AwesomeInterface. but when I change the code that uses the classes from this:
var engine:Engine = generateEngine();
to this: var interfacedEngine:InterfacedEngine = generateEngine();
It gives me a runtime error (elision mine):
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert ...::Engine@1bc2bf11 to ....InterfacedEngine.
What about AS3 classes am I misunderstanding?

I work with Flash Pro allmost 11 hours per day and every while i get a error which messes up everything. Approximetly i get this after about 2-3 hours withevery project.After i get this error there is no chance to test movies afterwards.I see a fast flash of the loader window but it dissapears so fast i cant even really see if it is loader.

I been given some banners to adapt, unfortunately on not very familiar with AS3 and im trying to align a word to the left but for the life of me i cant figure out what to change. Can anyone please shed some light? I can get letter spacing to work but I can't find an align command.

My FLA is importing it as :

Normally I use portfolio.classes and I have no trouble. My AS3 prefs are set to the alexflash folder.

I have a App.fla file on a path and a App.as file on the same path. On the Class field I put "App" and on the ActionScript Settings Source path there is "." which means the same path of the .fla file, right? I open the App.fla file and click on the little "pencil" icon in order to edit App.as but then Flash whether tells me there's no class file associated or it opens a new ActionScript file.
So I can't do nothing , I even copied all code into the App.as , and pasted into the new ActionScript file it generates when I click the little pencil button. It still cannot find the god damned class. A little detail, I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.2. I've been working full time with flash on a Windows and that never happened to me before. That hasn't happend to me on Mac either (though I have hardly used it to do FLASH/AS).

I have a WCF Service running SOAP and allowing Flex / Flash to connect to it using basicHttpBinding by using the 'Data' 'Import Web Service' option. Unfortunately when I consume and invoke this service within Flex it throws the following error...

This method returns an array of Presentation objects that are retreived by the service. At the moment there are no DataContracts and I'm allowing the POCO Presentation object to be serialised and punted out by the service that works fine. However, this class has a readonly property of the type System.Drawing.Size that derived from appropriate height and width properties. Looking through the generated code, it doesn't register a 'Size' class in the base import schema although it still seems to create a Size class.
An alternative has been to stop the derived property from being serialised using the [XmlIgnore] but that has not worked. I need a way of allowing my Flex application to communicate with my WCF service but it seems to choke on the System.Drawing.Size type and while I could change this, there are other framework types such as Point, Rectangle, etc, etc. that are utilised within the project.

This should be rather simple, but for some reason i'm only able to find methods to just diplay a random image, but i want the image to change once a day not every time you load the page.
All i have atm are a empty movieclip to load the photos, an upload system in flash that uploads photos to a specified directory, but now i have to figure out the AS to make the movieclip load a random photo from a specified directory once a day.

i'm need HMAC-SHA1 for doing some encryption, but so far i'm able to found SHA1 in meychi crypto library, but until now i'm still not able to found HMAC encryption method so far.i'm trying to refer to hurlant crypto library, but it's quite confuse as it's using ByteArray which only available on AS3.

Is there any way to change a context menu that already has been personalized. I have an small application that I purchased to learn with and also to save some time. When I right click the context menu appears with the other person's information in it. I want to change that information if it is possible to do so. I tried

and added my info but the menu will not change from the person I got the app from. Is this considered unethical or illegal? I put so much work into this, I don't want the person to get credit for it.

I keep getting this error in my output panel when I switch from one flv to another. I am loading up multiple flvs from an xml file.

I will try to state this simply. If required I can post my code. I have created a class that extends the MovieClip. It is basically a retangular shape, with a color and a label that can be set via the "properties" concept. The label.text property is public.
I create a "new" object of this item (more or less a button) depending on reading an xml file.
If the file has 3 names (titles like "Lesson 1", Lesson 2" etc). I create a new "button" for each name in the xml file.
so I can get 3 instances of the object on the stage. Which I get. I create each new object like this:

I use a for loop to read the xml data, and create the instances:
for ....
menu = new linkBase();
// i try to give it an instance name like the
menu.name = xmlList[i].name // name = "Week1", "Week2", "Week3", etc
i push the menu object into an array like this: nav_button.push(menu), in the for loop.
I can draw the three objects on the stage. I have a stage listener that will trace the target name if I click on the instance. I get "null" if I click off the button. My problem is that I get the target name for only the second and third instances, and not the first. If I comment out the menu.name line, and click each instance on the stage, I get "instance9", instance12, instance15. So I know there are three objects there.
I can do something like this to get a name on the first instance: nav_button[0].name = xmlList.week, or hard code a string like "Week1".
But I want to be able to do this in a loop of some sort. I am trying to create a user friendly name for each instance, so I know what I am clicking on, and take action depending on the name "week1", "week2" etc.
what I am missing in terms of naming a instance on the stage?

I am working on making a photo flip animation between 5-7 photos but i have to duplicate this 70 different times. So what i have done is made a scene for each set of 5-7 photos, they are externally being pulled in through an AS3 script to prevent a large .swf file from happening with all those photos. The problem i am running into so that i cant seem to run a find and replace search to replace the instance name values.

I have a TextArea, a TextInput and a button. When text is entered into the TextInput the TextArea is searched for the matching string, however it only highlights the first found instance of the string. How can I do a 'find next' type of operation.

With Flahs CS4 with as3 paint a rectangle F8 and convert to symbol button, now if edit the new button, timeline is like this: paint another rectangle F8 and converto to symbol: Movieclip, now the time line is like that:if in the second symbol, edit in properties, and change MovieClip to button, when I edit it, the timeline is no change as first option. What can I do to see the button timeline.

Lets say I have a string like so...
../images/work/environment/images/biz1.jpg
as you can see the set of characters of "images" in that string twice.
I need to replace the second "images" with something else. Had there only been one "images", I would have done something like this...

Because there are two "images" this will not work.

Is there any way, using Flash CS4, to change the vanishing point (ie projectionCenter) of a MovieClip? Or can Flash CS4 only adjust the stage's vanishing point? It seems that when I change it from inside a MovieClip it changes it on a global level, which is not what I want.
I've found I can use AS3 with PerspectiveProjection to change it at runtime, but I can't see the affect in Flash CS4 which makes doing the actual animation incredibly cumbersome.

I'm making a vertical scroller with a mask. The content is inside a movieclip and the user scrolls around it.My problem is, I have lots and lots of content to put inside that movieclip, and I've reached the limit of the sheet. All inside the movieclip. How do I resize the sheet/canvas inside the movieclip so that I can put more info in it??I've googled it, but found nothing.Note: I just want to change the size of the sheet/canvas inside a movieclip and I don't want to change my document size.
