Im having a dynamic textfield in on the main timeline which loads an external text file. Im also using addChild on the main timeline to display a mc. The problem is that the textfield is always behind the mc!! how can i change the depth of the textfield?

View 7 RepliesI have been trying to change the depth of an object. I have only just started learning AS3, so I haven't looked into this yet.So far I have been using a trial-&-error method to try to get this piece of code to work which I found on a site, but I have not succeeded:

I am putting this code in it's class, and I tried replacing the word example with 'this'. Can someone please help me? When I test the swf it comes up with this in output:

Im trying to change the depth or index of a movieclip when its click. And bring it to the top of everything. The problem is that the movie clip is not added by addChild, but nested in a frame.
so if i try and use any of these:
anyMC.parent.setChildIndex(anyMC, anyMC.parent.numChildren-1);
or public function bringMCToFront($mc:MovieClip){ $mc.parent.setChildIndex($mc, $mc.parent.numChildren-1);}
by it gives me this error: Error #1065: Variable setChildIndex is not defined.

View 2 Repliesthe question is a bit more involed. I have a dynamic text box, which I've put inside a movieclip. I hae a number of movieclips that I bring in using attachMovie, but my movieclip which contains my text box is underneath all the other movieclips.
I would like to know how I can tell my movie to display above all the other?
right now I have some balls being generated like addChildAt(ball, 0);However what if I wanted to change the order of one specific ball?So make one ball 2 and add a alpha layer inbetween so the other balls cant be clicked.

how I can place the sliding menu at the very top of the presentation when it's already on the stage?

View 3 RepliesI've got a flash document using AS3. It dynamically reads data from an XML file, and creates a bunch of single line textFields. Could be like this:

So, for each node, it would create a new TextField, and change the textField.y value so that they are "stacked" on top of each other. All this if fine, except that if you hae so many "lines" (or textfields) that the "stack" is taller than the Flash Document size. What I would like to do is have a scroll bar or something so you can scroll the stack of TextFields. Doesnt' even need to be a scroll bar. Maybe an arrow button at the bottom, and when you click on it, it scrolls down. One for up too.

I'm looking to create a rotating set of images, simulated to look 3D... that can rotate either left or right, reactive to someones mouse location.
The path of the images would look like a flat oval, and as the images came to the forefront, they would be at full scale, have the lowest position (high _y), have the highest depth (appear in front of everything else) and be dead center _x.
As they slide left or right, they would reduce everything by a relative 50% to the final shift (scale, _y, and depth) until they got to the end, moving in an upward arc following the oval path. When they got to the end, and kept rotating beyond (move in the opposite _x. but appear to follow the flow of the arc), continuing to decrease in scale, _y, and depth.
My scene has a TextField object. I set up my TextField as DynamicText because I need to change it programmatically.
How do I prevent mouse cursor change to I-Beam form when it's above TextField? Also, user of my flash application is able to select text of this TextField using mouse cursor. I would like to disable this behavoiur too.

When I try to change the default value of the text field the new value is not displayed(indeed the default value I put in flash is cleared on screen, but in the debugger it shows that the new value is set in the text field)

I want to change the height of a textfield to 60 pixels, without changing the size of the text, and still keeping it centered. When I want to change the size of the texfield, I can change the length, but the height is unfortunately locked. Any ideas? View 1 RepliesI have a Flash file, which has to be liquid. I have a header, a footer and a center section, which all are percentage scalable. My center section has a MovieClip called info_txt, and I'm trying to make it high 20% of the center_mc's height. I do this, but I also load a text in that field (info_txt) with XML, and when the text (xml) is loaded and placed in the textfield it doesn't go multiline, but stays nowrap.
