Is it possible to refference a movieclip in an array and then calling a methodfor ex.The movieclip i want to refference: main.box.mymovieclip

If I have a MovieClip, simply a blue square with class AS file called blueBox, in the constructor of the blueBox.as file I have:
this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, sayHello);
Why does this not call the sayHello method when I click the movieclip on the stage? I know on the stage that I could grab the instance of my bluesquare movieclip and add an event listener to it that way, but I just wanted to 'encapsulate' in a bit more.

Just learning as3. For testing purposes, I duplicated a movieclip 4 times on the stage and gave each mc a different instance name and put them in an array ("line1","line2","line3","line4"). Then I just want one movieclip to move 200 pixels based on the conditions of the array. Here is the code:

var duke = (stuff[i]);
[duke]y += 200;

It traces out the correct mc (line4) but ALL the movieclips move 200 pixels instead of the one (line4). Do you know why this is? I have a feeling that [duke]y is not the correct way to reference the movieclip.

I know that a dynamic mc can be referenced using array notation
viz: myArray['someName'+i]
My question is ... can mcs that have been placed on the stage and given instance names be referenced in some similar way? If I have placed 10 mc's with different instance names eg mg1, mg2, mg3 etc, can I reference them using array referencing?

I have a number of 'items' (mc's) contained in a scrolling mc that can be drag-dropped to other matching mc's. The items names are listed in an array and I wish to assign variables of suitability and feedback to each mc from the array also. I think this is called an associative array?

I am creating movieclips into which I want to load thumbnails which are to be loaded dynamically. I'm not sure if the solution I am trying to build is the more effective way to do this; I'm still quite a noobie.
Each movieclip container which I will use hold the thumbnails is of a size to hold 16 thumbs, so the number of holder movieclips required is calculated at the time the xml loads; with the movieclips then being created, named and stored in an array. (The idea is to then move between these movieclips (and so the thumbs) using previous and next buttons) - however, I'm not at that stage yet!
However, when I call each movieclip to place the loaded thumbs in, the code throws the "#1010: A term is undefined and has no properties" Error. I think this is a problem with the array; and possibly the mc not being defined properly. However, I am not sure where my problem is.

I am trying to call a custom method of an embedded flash like so:

Which works great in Chrome ans Safari, but fails utterly in IE7 & IE8. The browsers throws an error that the object doesn't have such a method.
I am using the example from [URL], and now that I've tested it, it also fails at it's testing page as well [URL]

I have a simple flash socket that I use to connect to IRC servers. It has an open, close, and send method made available to JS through ExternalInterface, for opening connections, closing connections, and sending messages respectively. The socket calls IRC.io.receive in JS whenever it gets a message, which is parsed by JS into something useful.Unfortunately, whenever any of the flash methods are called from JS, they return a "__ is not a function" error.Here's the (watered down) AS, where IRC is the document class:

I have a project that needs 4 levels of zoom, each with its own image loading in. So, to make things easier on myself, I made an array of the Loaders, so I can instantiate them and hide/display them when I need to.However, this doesn't work as I had expected.I.e. I should always be able to call the Collision class without referencing it earlier. I have all the imports I need (Events, Movieclip, Keyboard, MouseEvents). For some reason though, when I enter any code involving Collisions, specifically:
Collision.block(player, block);
I get this error:

Is there something previous to using the Collision Class I must do? Placing it in the same folder as the rest of my work? Some sort of unseen reference?

I'm trying to make a small card simulation that creates a pile of cards, and when I click on the deck it flips the top card over and moves it to another pile. Clicking on the other pile flips it back. I'm using Flash CS3 so can't use Flash 10's 3D abilities. So far, I'v created a Card class (extending sprite) which draws 2 rectangles (for the front and back faces), and contains a public method flipTo(). which when called starts a tween which moves the card and flips it (by adjusting it's scaleX value to negative, and when scaleX = 0 toggling the visibility of the card's faces).
This works fine, and so I have a for loop that creates 10 instances of the Card class on top of each other (and within a sprite container called rightPile), giving me my pile. I've attached an event listener to the pile, so when I click it, it performs the onRightClicked function, which calls the top card's flipTo() method. So when I click on the pile, the top card flips. However, when I click again, the same card flips again, and I can't figure out how to make the next card flip. I've tried keeping track of the index of the current card, and using rightPile.getChildAt(currentCard).flipTo(), but I get the following error...

I have this MC attached to the stage with an instance of say: insA, then within this I have another called say: insB, then finally another one within insB called say: insC.so normally to access the third one I would use: insA.insB.insC do something.I have this button within another MC called say: '2ndinsA', so when a button within '2ndinsA' is pressed I need to perform 'something/move' onto insC.
Now within the class attached to '2ndinsA' i have the parent.getChildByName("insA") code and its seemed to grab the 'insA' and I could then move it, but its the insC that i want to move.How can I then reference the 'insC' within that MC )'insA', i have tried several ways but all come up short (errors galore)

I am trying to emulate (in a limited way) the behavior of JavaScript's XMLHttpRequest object through Flash/ActionScript 3, in order to overcome the same-domain limitation. But I'm discovering that ActionScript has its own limitations in that regard. I admit that I might be mistaken, but from what I understand it is theoretically still possible to do this sort of cross-domain scripting using ActionScript, so long as you get all the permissions right. And that's where I'm running into trouble.
First, I borrowed some open-source code for a class called AjaxRequest, which I have saved as /ajax/AjaxRequest.as. I then created a Flash file called /jsajax.fla which exports to the final SWF file, /jsajax.swf. Now, here's the ActionScript code that comprises the first and only frame of the Flash file:

I have two classes, in one (the Start class) I want to run a function I created in another (the Brown class). I commented in Start where I want to call the "addBrownListen" method. I tried doing it with the line:

I'm going to post the full code of the two functions, disregard the "fluff" unrelated to the two functions as it is all working flawless, I've tested this HEAVILY and cannot understand why it keeps setting the entire array to undefined!

Basically it's supposed to check to see if the file exists and return as true if it does and add it to a replace array, then the replace array is processed into a single string and put into a dialog box through the flash wrapper prompting them to "replace the files or not".
It makes the replace array just fine, it actually even has the right "count" in it but it's setting all the "filenames" to undefined because of the exists = processSearch function.
I even tried to make a new array and run the search just from that one and set the values from the old one and it's still failing.
Is it because of the "break" or can anyone figure it out? Iknow it's hard because you can't use the code
