I'm having a problem changing the direction of a movieclip using hitTestPoint. I have some balls on the screen that only move left, right, up and down. and pending the way they are moving they have to change direction. if they're moving right they have to change to up. left to down, up to right and down to left. I'm having a problem changing the direction of a movieclip using hitTestPoint. I have some balls on the screen that only move left, right, up and down. and pending the way they are moving they have to change direction. if they're moving right they have to change to up. left to down, up to right and down to left. I tried the following code for getting a ball moving moving right to change to up.

note: movingDir is just a string i use to keep track of how the ball is moving and is defined initially in another class.

HitTestPoint All The Way Or Check If Distance < Something First Then HitTestPoint?

Which one is more efficient? Or is there even a noticeable difference? I did tests of a circle moving closer to a square and stopping when hitTestPoint returns true. The square was at 0 and the circle was at 500. My first test I did using hitTestPoint the entire time, my second test I did by checking the distance (Pythagorean Theorem way) and if it's below 50 then check with hitTestPoint.

I compared the FPS of each test but they were the same at 30 FPS with 200 circles and at 11-12 FPS with 500 circles. I thought the first test would be slower because I was testing every pixel the entire time while the second test I was only calculating the distance for the most part before testing every pixel.

Flex :: Moving Libs From Root To /libs

righ now i'm using Flex 4.1 libs, when compiling Flex puts all used libs into the root of the application, however - i don't want them there, i want them to be inside Flex_root/libs.

Anyone a clue where i can change the lib location?

In one particular keyframe, I have five buttons on the left hand side of my stage, that when clicked, display an external swf on the right handside. It works perfect fine using the code below. However on this frame where all this is going on, I also have a back button that i want to link back to the home page. But I just CAN'T seem to get it to unload the external swfs as well as go back in the timeline.[code]

FLA in CS3 attached.Simple MC with over/out and onPress.All silhouettes have over/out. Silhouette on left initiates the animation.Black box in top left corner resets it.When a silhouette has been rolled over/out it does not follow timeline animation.{Rollover a single person then click left person to see issue.)I originally had the motion done in AS, but switched to timeline for trouble shooting.I'm trying to use more AS than timeline lately, so i hope someone can point me in the right direction. Also any tips in easier ways to do what i'm doing would be great... sometimes i feel like i'm taking the extended route.[code]

I'm reading a book on ActionScript and I'm in the section on controlling movie clips. I'm reading about the basic methods, and I'm starting to realize I still don't fully understand the significance of square brackets.[code]Obviously, this is the prototype form of the lineStyle() method. What I don't get is why "thickness" is the only parameter without square brackets. I know that square brackets are used for retrieving data from an array or object, but either my book doesn't cover why they're used like this in a method, or I just completely blanked it out.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Error#2025 Trouble With RemoveChild

i try to program a little shooter game and right now i would like to implement a piece of code, which causes an enemy, as soon as it was killed, to explode. This explosion should then kill and remove all remaining enemies on the screen.

This code is embedded in a while loop, which checks bullets vs enemy collisions, which is on its part embedded in a timer function.

Of course i was looking this error up and it seems, as if i was trying to remove the displayobject enemy although it no longer exists, but unfortunately i can't really figure out what i did wrong.

I bolded the removeChild command which causes the error.

ActionScript 2.0 :: OnClipEvent (mouseDown) Movie / Link Trouble

I'm working on an interactive map of the united states in which each state is a button inside a movie clip. The states get larger and move up in depth when you go over them then shrink back down when you mouseout. All of this (finally) is working right.I wanted it to work so that when you clicked on a state it sent you to a seperate page for that specific state..[code] with a seperate link for each movie clip on the stage of course. Now, when I test this in Flash it opens up an explorer window for every single state when I click on one.When I put the swf on a website and use it, each state I click on links me to California for some reason.I'm sure it's just the syntax and then way I'm setting this up but I don't know of a better way to do it without having to redo tons of my actionscript for each state. If anyone knows a quick solution or a better approach I would appreciate it!

i have a few buttons that use loadmovienum to load a few clips into levels. The code on each button is something similar to:

But because the print_index movie slowly scrolls across the stage rather than immediately replace it, there is a moment where the button turns completely invisible after the click. Perhaps the bigger problem is that it doesnt make any of the accompanying buttons invisible like it is supposed to- only the one that is clicked.

Situation:

- We have a Flash application located on a SAP EP (let's say ep.x.com)

- We have a SAP ABAP Application (Webservices) on a SAP WebAS
server (abap.x.com)

- Clarification: This is not about Flash islands / but a normal Flash application communicating with WebAS ABAP via WebServices

Problem: Due to the changed security policy in Flash 10 this scenario does no longer work.

- A crossdomain policy file on root level cannot be deployed on root level

- The WebServices http/s headers cannot be modified, since the WebServices are generated by the WebAS IDE.

Comment: Technically there is a way to patch a WebAS ABAP,but this is not a practical / acceptable way in a normal SAP WebAS infrastructure.

Conclusion:- The above scenario (Flash from EP content / WebAS ABAP as backend) is a quite normal scenario in the SAP world.

- SAP / Adobe always features the close relationship between their technologies.

Question:- What could we do?

- How does the Visual Composer works around that problem?

Actionscript 3 :: Position Loaded Object Based On Root Stage Instead Of MC That Is Loaded From Root

I have a root stage, and a MC that is called from the root stage.Now from that MC, i will called in another MC2, and I wanted to placed the MC in the center of the stage. The reason I could not use normal ADDED_TO_STAGE at MC and define the center is because MC is not place in the exact position of the root stage (as in x, y=0). So if I would target MC2 at MC stage center, it would not be the exact center of the root stage/screen.How can I called the root stage properties rather than adding MC2 into the stage?

How do you tell the root timeline to root.gotoAndStop(2); from the timeline of a movieClip added using addChild?In the maintime line I have

addChild(fade_eng);

and in fade_eng I have the following on frame 20

root.gotoAndStop(2);
this.gotoAndStop(1);

But I am getting 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method gotoAndStop through a reference with static type flash.display:Stage.

Anyone know why "hitTestPoint(character.x, character,y, true)" would be hit testing off the origin point in the center of the character, and not the whole shape??This is my code from my document class. I have been using hitTestPoint so far with mouse_move listener, which means if the mouse was stationary over target area when that listener was added the desired action wont happen until mouse moves.

Basically I have this window in the middle of the stage where loader loads pictures and when picture loads if the mouse moves over that window some other stuff appears.The listener is added after each picture is added and if the mouse was stationary above the loader when that happened it doesnt trigger hitTestPoint (until mouse moves).

I have seen somewhere this same effect, but it worked even if the mouse was stationary above the image when image appeared.

I have the beginning of a game that looks a bit like Asteroids. The first version of the game worked, but was very code-heavy (every object was individually coded) so I decided to move the bulk of the code to document classes.

I wanted to have certain objects interact with eachother (bullets with asteroids, asteroids with ship, etc.) but they can't find eachother. Also, as you may notice in like a second from now, the whole code is handled by a single document. I guess I should do something about that as well?

Recently I was trying to use hitTestPoint with a nested movieclip against another non-nested one. Then if the nested movieclip was found to collide with the the registration point of the other movieclip (shapeFlag was set to true of course), the nested movieclip would move down by 1 pixel until it wasn't colliding.[code]What happens is that the while statement doesn't kick in until the registration point of obj3 is over obj2, but it doesn't break until obj3 is not over the bounding box of obj. Alternatively, if I change obj1.obj2.y to obj3.y it does stop at the correct spot.Actually I guess the problem isn't obj2 being nested in obj1, the problem still occurs when it's taken out of obj1.
