I tried to draw it out using Sin ,Cos and Tan functions to try to set the coordinates but it didn't behave like I had expected,
I am having a couple of small issues with my code for drawing rectangular outlines around hotspots in my scene. The first problem I have is that if I have a movieclip that displays above the hotspots (such as a menu that appears/disappears with a button press), the outline appears to be over the top movieclip. The second issue I have is if that movieclip contains a hotspot within it, the outline appears elsewhere on the screen instead of around the movieclip.[code]...

I'm currently working on a platforming game.I'm at a complete loss to a lot of the draw functions, so I wanted tI want to know how I can DRAW A GRID. That's it. A simple grid where I tell it, the grid is (550 X 400) pixels and each sqaure is 20X20 pixels empty.The code that I tried didn't work:

I am trying to draw a set number of squares in a grid type layout and have pretty much gotten it to do what I want. The
problems is that I want to be able to manipulate each square individually later on and I'm pretty sure I need to assign each one a unique instance name.something like "square_0_0" all the way down to "square_10_10" (it's a 10x10 table of squares).how do assign a unique instance name to each square as it's added to the stage? I attached the code I currently have running.
I'm currently working with the OLAPDataGrid component and got stuck at a relatively simple task: I want to style the last row of the grid differently from the rest, so my cell item renderer needs to know whether he's rendering the last row with content in the overall grid, including those rows currently not rendered because they are outside the visible grid space. AdvancedGridListData's rowIndex property only gets me the row index of the renderer relative to the range of visible grid rows, i.e. when I scroll down the grid, a data item with an index greater than 0 gets the rpw index = 0.

Its an empty grid at the begining, when they start the time start as well.Its a grid of 10 x 10. when they enter the last number, the grid should show what they did wrong and the time they spend. I really like the thumbnail gallery for its simplicity and beauty. But I would like to ad or vertical scroller (I'm unable to find it here too, maybe I'm blind, just I'm more at the end of my seeking options) or a make a grid thumbnails, that will show 2 columns of thumbs and 5 pictures in each columns, then under the 2 columns i would like to ad a sort of arrow or button that if my gallery have more then 10 pictures it will go on the next thumbnail list. I'm not looking for any extra fading effects or special movements. Just would love to have a single thumbnail grid on side, with option to have lists of thumbnails by 10 if there is more then 10 pictures or so.

View 1 RepliesI'm building a small editor that allows users to place electrical components onto a grid so that they can see how electricity works. I have built a grid using an array and for loops and attach movieclips dynamically to that grid. What I want the moviclips to do is to look in the four spaces either side of itself i.e. up, down,left and right.I have managed to pull the grid coordinates out of the grid which enables me to tell the clip which grid space to look at but have been unable to successfully get the code to work.Here is my code:

I'm making a top view zombie survival game in AS3. I want to spawn the enemies in waves defined by "frames", or the difference between a bigger rectangle and a smaller one within it, like a picture frame. Right now here is my code, which is pretty inefficient. I was wondering if there was a better way. This code doesn't work right either, all the enemies spawn in the bottom right of the screen:

In CSS, we have a box model to define how border, margin, padding, and fill contribute to the total width and height of a rectangle. I'm porting some of my HTML/CSS design into Flash and can't quite figure out what Flash's box model is. In Flash, I've created a rectangle with gradient fill and a non-scaling 1 pixel stroke. I'm trying to get pixel-perfect positioning and sizing, but the experience has been unpredictable. I'm not really seeing a pattern to the following questions. The answer really changes depending on the exact circumstances.
When you set x and y both to be 0, where does the border lay? Is it off the screen? Is it being cut in half by the origin? Or is it completely visible?When you set width to 100, is the fill 98 wide or 100 wide?What happens to the 1px thick border when the rectangle is not positioned at whole number coordinates?

I tried to create a 100x100 square at x:10, y:10. When I measured the total width and height in Photoshop, it came out to be 101x101.One would either expect the final dimensions to be 100x100 (border on inside) or 102x102 (border on outside).
I created a small rectangle and made it into a symbol movie clip. then I went inside of it and added a small 100x100 image on the left side along with a description of the image on the right side filling up the rest of the space.
I now want to somehow put it in a container that will automatically add a vertical scrollbar on the right side and somehow add more rectangles on top of each other. perhaps the scroll bar wont be initially on the screen until the container fills to have more than 5 rectangles in it or so.
Is there a component I can extend somehow to add this kind of functionality or does one already exist that I can use?

I have 5 rectangle mc's. All different sizes and different positions.
I have a final size and position.
I want to click on 5 different buttons and make the corresponding mc grow and move to the desired final size.
I am using the draw() method of the BitmapData to encode a jpeg of part of the image. Now this should be easy enough given the object I want to draw to the bitmap is on the stage at design time so I know its location and dimetions exactly! Heres the code I have in place.

I know for a FACT that no part of the street clip I am drawing out is in negative space, and it's registration is (0,0). However, it cuts off A lot of the top of my image. y=5 in the above rectangle is where I need the top to be, but it cuts the top off of the image... even if I change it to 0, it has no effect.

I'm trying to code the snap to grid functionality. The dragged object should snap to the grid if the distance between the object bounds and a grid line is less than 5px. I found a way to do it if the object's rotation is 0 but it doesn't work if I rotate the object. I need a different approach. Can you point me into the right direction with the algorythm or any source code?
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to do some lean blitting for an object that rotates by rotating it once at startup and capturing a BitmapData snapshot of each 5 degrees. The problem I'm having is that the draw() method of the BitmapData object is only picking up pixels in the MovieClip that are below and to the right of the registration point. If I change the MC so that the registration point is in the top left corner, I sometimes get what looks like most of the pixels, but the entire object rotates into and out of the frame, since it's rotating around the corner and not the center.

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to figure out how to tile a rectangle (the stage) with an arbitrary number of rectangles. Simple tiling where all the tiles are the same size and simply stacked in a grid.I'm doing this with a resizable layout and a number of tiles that is arbitrary and will change over time.
Given a more or less 4:3 or 16:9 monitor I would like a solution that tends toward minimizing the perimeter of the tile and being similar in aspect ratio to the screen. I realize that if I have a prime number of tiles that I won't be able to make a nice grid, but other than that it seems there should be some way to do this.Lets say I have 231 tiles I need to arrange. The factors are 1, 3, 7, 11, 21, 33, 77 and 231.If the screen is really, really wide 1 x 231. Wide but not not as crazy wide as before 3 x 77. And most likely 11 x 21 is what I would need.So is there an easy way to do this on the fly? Is there a pre-calculated way to make it easy?
Fairly new to ActionScript 3. I am creating a series of solid rectangles which will be acting as butttons for my site, a new rectangle is created by looping through an XML List, 1 rectangle for each title in my List. They will be displayed 1 above another down the left hand side of my screen.
What I want to do, if possible, is create a vanishing point on the right hand side of my screen which the rectangles will use to alter their perspectives.Obviously the rectangles with a far different Y position to the vanishing points, will display with a greater perspective.
