ActionScript 3.0 :: How To Play MovieClip To Frame Number Then Stop
Jun 10, 2009
I have a movie clip that loads variables from an XML file. One of those variables is a number between 1 and 100. I have an movie clip file of a "speedometer" that has a needle. The needle is set with a motion tween between frame #1 and frame #100. The number in the XML file is, currently, set to "gotoAndStop" to the corresponding frame # in the speedometer movie clip. What I want to do is for the speedometer to "play" and THEN stop at the frame # that corresponds to what the XML is feeding it. All of this happens "on load". There is no "button" that activates it.
Here's the code I have for the parsing the XML into the speedometer. This is working. I just want it to "play" then "stop".
Code:
var SideGRAPH_01_01:XMLList=contentINPUT_01.StudentRptItemDetailDefinitions.StudentRptItemDetailDefinition.(@StudentRptItemDetailID=="5").(@Seq=="1").attribute("Value");
for each (var GRAPHElement_01_01:XML in SideGRAPH_01_01) {
MovieClip(root).page_01.dashboard.speedometer.gotoAndStop(GRAPHElement_01_01);
}
I'm using Flash CS4 with AS3. I'm building a website for a friend the problem I have. When a user clicks on a button I want it to play a movie clip then stop at a specfic frame. I want all the buttons to play the same movieclip but go to a different frame.
The current actionscript I am using is located on frame 1 is: home_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, homebuttonClicked); function homebuttonClicked(event:MouseEvent):void{ gotoAndStop(0) }about_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, aboutbuttonClicked); function aboutbuttonClicked(event:MouseEvent):void { gotoAndStop("aboutme") [Code] .....
This allows me to navigate to the right frame but does not play for obvious reasons, if I use the gotoAndPlay function its carries on playing to the end of the movie.
I am currently in the middle of making a "sniping" flash game. In the first level there are a series of moving targets which are also movie clips. Inside the movie clip there is a 7 frame animation of the target exploding. Inside that is a tween of the target moving up and down. And inside that there is a plain old button.
What I want to happen is when you click on the moving target it explodes and brings you to a new frame of the main timeline. (ex. Main Timeline frame #27) But I'm pretty sure it thinks I was to play the seven frame animation of it exploding and then go to frame 27 inside the movie clip, rather then frame 27 on the main timeline.
Here's what my AS looks like on the target (ActionScript 2.0 is what I'm using.)
on (press) { play(); } on (release){ gotoAndStop(27)}
So how do I make it explode and then take me to frame 27 on the main timeline?
Is it possible to play and stop a number of frames later, without using stop() in the frames? Like when I click a button frame 20 will start playing and it stops 30 frames later, all defined by the actions of the button..

Okay, so I've got a happy little movie that shows an atom diagram. Every seven frames shows an electron popping up in the ring around the nucleus. This is all contained in a movie clip. I want a button that when pressed, tells the movie clip with the atom to advance the seven frames ( making an electron pop up ) and then stop. The same button if pressed again, will advance the movie clip an additional seven frames ( thus adding another electron ).
I've looked around quite a bit but haven't found a solution that will work for me. Also, I am working in AS2. (if you're feeling especially helpful, do you also know how to do the same but in reverse? I've found how to play movie clips in reverse, but not for a certain frame interval.)
I need to make the whole ad repeat X number of times and then stop on the last frame (it always stops in the first frame for me) then I need to link the clickable button to go to a website when clicked. [URL]
1. I make a simple movie (call it movieClip) first frame has stop(); action, second frame has label playMovie, last frame has action gotoAndPlay(2); (so that movie not stop anymore2. Now I place movieClip on stage3. Question... what is code to make movieClip play frame label playMovie?
I already try to put many different type action in frame one of stage this.movieClip.gotoAndPlay("2"); //NOT WORK this.movieClip.gotoAndPlay(2); //NOT WORK
How I can make a button goto and play a frame of a movie clip. Basically the first frame is blank and when the button is clicked the movie clip will go to frame 2 and play. I'm also going to have some other buttons make it go to other frames.
I have an mc placed on the main stage that I'm trying to control through a separate button. I want the mc to play until a certain frame number is reached and then stop. I've got the following actionscript on the button instance:
Code: on(rollOver){ if (mc._currentframe == 10){ mc.stop()
[Code]....
This is not working at all - the mc is not stopping at frame 10, just looping continuously
I am using this code to start a movie playing. I can't get it to stop on the last frame. It keeps resetting back to the first frame. I have tried this.stop() and gotoandStop() with frame numbers and frame labels but none of that worked.
this.stop(); var myStartButton:StartButton = new StartButton;addChild(myStartButton);myStartButton.x = 284;myStartButton.y = 255;myStartButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, playMe);
I'm working on a visualisation where the user inputs the number of songs they have and it shows you a visual of how many CDs this is (for a uni assignment). I have my variable 'output' and somehow I need to code a button so that when the user clicks it it takes them to my movie clip 'cdstack' frame 'output - 10' and plays then stops when it gets to frame 'output'. So it will play for ten frames then stop when it reaches 'output'.
The slideshow on the left is the one I'm talking about, not the Flash video on right.
Anyway, to make it work, I added a whole bunch of frames between the moving images to pause it - to give reader time to see pictures and words - then it goes on to next one. instead of doing it this way, I am wondering if I can just put an action of some kind on a frame to tell it to pause for X number of seconds, then play again?
I'd like my Flash site to be bi-lingual. What I have currently is a Flash movie with an empty Movie Clip which then allows users to go from movie to movie. The movies are all small movieClips that are loaded into the empty movieclip on demand. There is some video and text in each of the 30 movieClips. Here is sample of code that i'm using to call up next MovieClip.
[Code]...
My solution for the bilingual version is to create a separate frame with the French version + video and then when user presses the French button they are directed to that frame. This way I could easily create the French text within the one movie. however i don't know the Actionscript code to call up a movieClip to play from frame 10, and not frame 1.
i need to gotoAndPlay then gotoFrame and stop at frameEXAMPLE: gotoAndplay from frame 2 then when it reaches frame 10, i want it to go to the Parent frame with a gotoAnd stop at frame ("willy")so far i have put this script on frame 10 but when it gets to frame 10 it just stops, it does not jump to the parent frame "willy"PLAYS TO FRAME 10 then: gotoAndstop this._parent._parent. ("willy)
I am trying to make an interactive story in Flash CS4, but I am completely new to Actionscript 3.0.
I have an FLV which I want to act as an intro, then when it has finished playing I would like to automatically go to the next frame in the timeline and stop.
How would I do this using actionscript? I was kind of thinking like this: onClipEvent(enterframe){ if(thecurrentframe=2){ stop(); }} But I am not completely sure. hat variable would the current frame part be in??
i'm trying to get a movieclip within a movieclip to stop playing when it reaches its last frame. let me describe my problem: it should start playing when the user rolls over the movieclip that is containing it(i'll call this mc1, and the movieclip within it mc2). i've put a stop action in mc2's last frame but it won't stop and plays again and again. one thing i should point out is that there is a variable in mc1 that tells the movie whether it's ok to play the movie in reverse when the user rolls over mc1, if this is false, that means that it plays normally(not in reverse). i'm using "play()" to play mc1 when the user rolls over it and this is where i think the problem is; even though the last frame of mc2 has a stop action, it is somehow told to play again? anyways, this is just a guess, i haven't figured out why or how to fix it. i'm not sure if my explanation was too hard to understand so i'll try to clarify it if anyone wants me to.
I have a hard time to find out how I can possibly set my prevFrame(); function to go to previous frame and play instead of stop?My code in the actionscript section (the very 1st line) starts with:[code]
I have a animation in my loader_mc that I want to start at one frame and play to it then stop then when you click on it again I want it to play from a certain point. But what is happening is that it will initially do everything it is supposed to but than mess up after the initial 2 clicks. Check out the onRelease event and you will see what I am currently trying to do. [URL]
Im trying to tell my movie to goto and stop on anoter frame on my root timeline and then play a movie clip on the new frame... This is probs really simple but it is early.
This may be a really simple question but I'm trying to go to a frame on the timeline which has a movieClip object in it and then goto a specific frame in that movieClip and I can't figure out how to code it. I thought something like:
I am struggling trying to get this variable set. I want to set a variable number to be the frame number of a movieclip. this is what i am trying with no luck: var fn:Number = movie_name._currentframe(); trace(fn); I have looked at different online examples but cant find an example like this one.
