i installed a few components (gaia framework, flash eff 2 demo and a rain drop water effect) to use in Flash.
in the Adobe Extension Manager they are all enabled , however, i dont see anything in Window -> Other Panels neither in the Components panel.

The header is a graphic of a guy's head and a car.
I want to design the same kind of page but my header graphic will have a cartoon head instead of that guy's head and it will animate.
Now If the user does not have flash installed I would like to have a static header image appear, like a .jpeg or a .gif, instead of the .swf header.
I developed something in flex. It works great on FF and Safari. But on IE the "swf area" remains blank until mouse moves over it. I am embedding it like that:

I am learning flash and recently bought a flash template so I could see how it was structured etc. The vertical menu on the flash template plays fine when ran locally but when I upload it to the web the text on the vertical menu doesnt all show (i.e. the text is half cut off).

LOVE stack overflow!I am working on the same site and the other day I was on a computer and the uploader script was not working (uploadify), I was frustrated and looked through the code and everything was fine, worked on all other computers, then I decided to check if flash was installed and it wasnt.
Is there any way to check if the user has flash, and if they dont somehow say that on the page? I know for Javascript there is a tag, but is there something I can use for Flash?

1) a slider
2) a couple of text fields that my designer can place and style as he likes
It's a survey form. I expect to grab the _listData.owner and dispatch the user inputs and bubble them up to the form.
1) drag a list onto the stage
2) create a symbol in the library with the base class of com.blah.skins.renderers.SurveyItemRenderer
3) Export this class as SurveyItemRenderer
4) set the list's cellRenderer style to SurveyItem renderer
5) give the list data to show
I tried using CellRenderer, but the class seems to reject being associated with a symbol (and I could not find any examples of CellRenderer being used that way), so SurveyItemRenderer implements ICellRenderer.When I run it, other library symbols and graphics shows up in the renderer--WITH THE EXCEPTION of the slider. Other Flash components that I put on the stage do not show up either, until you roll over (Button), or if they have text in the them (Label). Slider never shows up.
Components will show up on the stage, just not in the SurveyItemRenderer. WHY NOT? I feel like I'm missing something basic. Here is the class, minimal because I'm still testing:

I'm building a multiplayer game which when connecting to the server, the server sends back a list of available rooms (each room has MaxPlayers,MinRank,TableId,TableName,Password) so everytime I recieve these 5 strings, I create an instance of Mxml UI Component I have created and fill it with the relevant details. I am working on an application where I need to basically have 2 separate screens and I need to be able to switch between them. I am a total noob to Flex & Flash and I have not found anything on how to do this in my 2 days of Googling. It really shouldn't be this hard to do!

I converted all these 3 components into a movie clip call form.
I tried adding on a mask, i added an actions layer into the movie clip:form. In the actions layer i added the code submit.setStyle("embedFonts", true);

I still can't see my submit buttons text. I also did the same thing to my text input and the same problem occurs.

Unfortunately this simple example shows no child components and even none of the initialize handlers is triggered. However as soon as I change the root tag to mx:WindowedApplication everything behaves as expected: The label and the button are shown and the console shows the output of the two trace statements.
I am created a dynamically adding a VBox, that contains two images. Into a Custom Component that is derived from UIComponent. The problem is the Vbox that contains the two image is only a really tiny size. I would like the VBox stretch to the size of the two images. This is how I am creating the Vbox....

View 2 RepliesI'm running XP and have installed 6 .otf fonts, from the Avenir family. Flash MX 2004 and Flash 8 don't see all but the Light and Roman versions of the font (they are the only ones that appear in the font menu). Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop display all the fonts, however.
An associate suggested that sometimes Flash doesn't like the names to be non-standard; in other words, it doesn't like "Heavy", but prefers "Bold", etc. This seems to support the fonts not being displayed in the Flash font menu, as they are AvenirLTStd-Heavy.otf, AvenirLTStd-HeavyOblique.otf, AvenirLTStd-LightOblique.otf and AvenirLTStd-Oblique.otf. The only two being displayed in the font menu are AvenirLTStd-Roman.otf and AvenirLTStd-Light.otf ("Roman" and "Light" are pretty traditional names).
I've tried renaming the fonts to "Bold" and "italic", etc., but Windows still sees the original names. I've tried opening the fonts in Notepad and changing all references (for example, all "Heavy" to "bold"), but saving the font file (even if I add and remove a space) makes it unreadable as a font (security issues, I think). One reason I think it's a naming issue, is I did try renaming Heavy to Roman, and installed it, and Flash saw it as Roman, but it had the Heavy characteristic. This work-around doesn't work, however, as I need Roman, too (and renaming it Roman2 doesn't work). Is there any solution for this? I need access to all of the Avenir font family, as it's for a branded project that uses Avenir specifically. Oh, and last but not least, I have the fonts installed on my Mac, and Flash 8 and CS3 both see all the fonts, no problem.
I use tinychat and tinypic. Now when I go on either one the text is invisible. I cant see any text, its there cause I can copy and paste it. I did not have this problem until I updated my flash.
