ActionScript 3.0 :: Let Array Access All Layers Of Movieclip?

Jan 10, 2011

I have a movieclip and in it/on it I have a few layers. 1 layer is for buildings and 1 layer is for props. When i add/sort specific objects to an array from this main movieclip only objects in the top layer are added. What is up with that? How do I let the array access all layers of the movieclip?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Access An Array From A Library Movieclip?

Aug 24, 2009

I was wondering - lets say I have a bunch of code on the main stage and then an array variable located inside of a movieclip that's in my library. There is a button on the main stage that when clicked will load the library movieclip containing the array. Is it possible to access the array variable that's in the movieclip from the main stage even if its not on the stage from the get go?

I know this would probably be much easier to do this using classes and setting global variables, but was wondering if its possible without taking that approach.

Access Child Movieclip Info Of An Object In An Array?

I've given each clip a name based on a variable number:

ActionScript 2.0 :: Any Way To Access Text Inside MovieClip In Array?

Mar 14, 2007

I am making a profile sort of thing, basically what happens is: You start the program... it loops, and generates 500 text fields, it stores them in an array called profile_name[]; it names them "Profile + (i+1) (i being the var used in the loop). Changes the colour to yellow, changes the size to 13. Removes the border from it and makes it unselectable (the text). It then converts the text into a movie clip (as if you made a dynamic text area, on the stage, and clicked it, and pressed f8, and converted to mc). It stores that in an array called profile_mcs[]. I need a way to access the text inside the movie clip in both they're arrays...

Example
If you go to your flash stage, make some dynamic text, call it "ptxt1", you make it unselectable, remove any border if it has one...
you name the text "test",
you select it, press f8, then convert to a movie clip called "test_text"
you name it "pbtn1" (the instance name I mean, when I say name)
If you go to the first frame of your main timeline and press f9 (action script section)
type
pbtn1.test.text = "NEW TEXT", it will name the text "test" inside the mc "pbtn1" to NEW TEXT...

However, if you store them into an array (both text and mc) you can no longer reference them like this:
MyMC_Array[0].MYText_Array[0].text = "NEW TEXT",
It doesn't show up, and making 500 if statements is to much (I think my problem may be when I traced my dynamic text inside the movie clip (that I've made on the stage) it appears as undefined.

Code:
var profile_name:Array (my text var) = [ptxt1, ptxt2, ptxt3, etc..];
I've tried doing
Code:
var profile_name:Array = [pbtn1.ptxt1, pbtn2.ptxt2]; etc..
None works,

IDE :: Movieclip HitTests On Particular Layers Of A Movieclip?

I'm working on a game project for school and I'd like to cut down the amount of library items I'm going to have to make for each level (I have a clip for unwalkable areas, places where shots can impact and so on.) Is there a way I can just draw one movieclip per level and cut up its parts into different layers, then call hittests on just specific layers instead of the whole movieclip?

Professional :: Copy Layers Into A New Movieclip ?

Jun 17, 2010

How does one select layers then bring them into a new MovieClip with their artwork and functionality etc intact.

I have a load of layers which together form a map with animations that run on it. A static key with a few buttons runs the animations on the map. I need to pan/zoom this map and as such need to package all these layers that form the map up into something that can be referred to in the coding for the pan and zoom functions.

I created a new layer in my timeline, called it MapPanZoom, then went Insert>new>movieClip.

I now need to remove the maps layers from the timeline and into the timeline for the movieClip I just created. How is this done ?

Leaves behind the static key that sits outside of the map, when a button in the key is clicked, I hope to see it run the animation on the map, and have a user able to zoom and pan the map whilst it runs.

I tried selecting the layers then edit>copy, then opening MapPanZoom movieClip from Library and edit>paste, nothing happened. Planned to delete the layers if it had worked out of the original scene1.

Actionscript :: Create An Enormous - Multi-dimensional Array With Several Layers Of Nesting And Before Panic Sets In

Jan 8, 2010

I hope this isn't too vague, but I'm stuck on a problem that has put me in an Unfortunate Position. I'm Flash developer getting my feet wet with with AS3 and am trying to build an interior decoration tool for a client. My thinking so far has been: create the basic user interface, get the screen flow down, and then finally use a couple of simple arrays to store user selections and stuff like that.

Naturally my 'couple of simple arrays' is totally inadequate to model the many user decisions that my program has to take into account. So I find myself trying to create an enormous, multi-dimensional array with several layers of nesting and before Panic sets in. Here's an example of my thinking for the 'bedding' component of the application in pseudo ActionScript:

[Code]....

... keep in mind that this is just a fraction of what goes into bedding and there are several other of these kinds of arrays that would go into a room like flooring and walls and funture... all equally complex. And I'll need to frequently access different combinations like, how many options under bedding have no value associated and things like that.

So, I realize I'm out of my league and am going to get hurt on this,My questions are:

1) Could it be that using nested arrays like this actually isn't such a bad thing and I should just stick it out? That would suprise me, but I want to make sure I'm not already on the right path.

2) If not, where do I go from here if I want to do this right?

Off the top of my head I feel like I could maybe make everything class based. So my sheets are a class and beds have instances of sheets and rooms have instances of beds... etc. It think it would be complicated but might be the way to go. Or maybe, I go the XML route and store all of the room options in nested blank XML nodes that a user then populates as they move through the application. These are my thoughts but I'd like to hear what more experienced members of the community say.

Flash - Drawing Sprites Between Layers On MovieClip

Aug 10, 2011

Is it possible to draw a sprite, on a movieclip, on a specific layer? I have a MC I created in the Flash designer, and it has 3 layers on it, background, some layout stuff, and then some text. In actionscript i've created a Sprite object in code, drawn a rectangle on it, and added it to the stage with addChild (called from within the MC). The problem is, the sprite is always being drawn above all the layout stuff I added in the designer. Is there any way to add the sprite to the MC at a specific layer? In this case the background layer. I tried changing the z on the sprite and no effect.

Professional :: Copy And Pasting Mutliple Layers (with Objects) From One Movieclip To Another?

Dec 14, 2010

I am trying to copy frames from 6 different layers along with the objects (action script, tween motions, buttons, graphic elements) from one movieclip to another. But once I do that, everyhting seems to be shifted and if I try to reposition the items in the new clip, it seems like I would have to repeat after every keyframe for each layer.

So my question is A. Is there a way to duplicate a movie clip but give it a instance name (an entirely new movieclip with the same frames and layers in the same position as the previous)?

B. How can I move mutliple objects across layers and keyframes?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Possible To Add Layers / Re-order Layers / Move Movieclips From Layer To Layer

Oct 22, 2008

Is it possible to add layers, re-order layers, move movieclips from layer to layer or specify which layer a duplicate movieclip appears on at runtime with AS3?I am aware of the depth properties and the functions associated with that but it would be easier to have a concept of a layer because I am dealing with masks.I have a nasty feeling I'm gonna be told that layers don't really exist within an swf and that depths and setmask are all there is to work with.

Actionscript 3 :: Access A Movieclip On The Main Timeline From Within A Movieclip?

Mar 6, 2012

Working on an RPG type flash, and I have to be able to control a text-box from quite a few locations. The one that is causing me trouble is the inventory. I need to be able to access the textbox with an instance of "statusWindow" from within the inventory clip (instance name "inventory"), so when I mouse over an item within the movieclip it will change the status window on the stage.In this instance I want to mouse over inventory.invHealth from the main timeline to get the display.itemName and itemProps are strings containing information about the item.I tried the following but it gave me a "possibly undefined" error.

invHealth.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, itemStats);
function itemStats(e:Event):void

ActionScript 3.0 :: Access To Variables By A MovieClip In A MovieClip

Jul 15, 2010

I'm making a fighting game and so far all the controls are good, characters can walk, run attack etc. My problem: The character is a MovieClip, Guy, and is exported to a class Guy. In Guy.as I have a boolean "hitting" which is set to default "false". If the Guy object hitTests an enemy while "hitting" is true, the enemy will take tamage.

In the Guy MovieClip there are about 7 frames, each with its own animation. 3 of those frames are attacking animations in form of MovieClips, i.e, if we click them we get another set of frames. Say one of the attack MovieClips has 10 frames in it, frame 7 of 10 is where the punch actually lands, this is when I want the enemy to take damage, not before (while the character is still moving his hand forward). Seeing as this frame is inside a MovieClip which is inside another MovieClip(Guy), is there a way to access the property "hitting" with this inner frame?
