Oct 22, 2008Is it possible to add layers, re-order layers, move movieclips from layer to layer or specify which layer a duplicate movieclip appears on at runtime with AS3?I am aware of the depth properties and the functions associated with that but it would be easier to have a concept of a layer because I am dealing with masks.I have a nasty feeling I'm gonna be told that layers don't really exist within an swf and that depths and setmask are all there is to work with.

Jan 17, 2012I am starting to learn how to use Flash. I am trying a simple exercise of creating text, breaking it apart, then distribute the objects to layers. When I do this, the layers in the timeline box appeared not in order, intead of Top to Bottom, the letters appeared Bottom to Top (See attached picture).

Mar 8, 2010I am colorblind.I need to change either the color of the background or the color of the text on the layers section on the Timeline.I simply cannot read/see what is currently showing.It is a very light blue background with white text and white dots for seeing, locking, or setting the outline color.I need to either change the text color and dots to black so I can see them, or try to change the background color to a dark blue so I can read the white text.Changing the text color would really be my preference. Adobe hasn't been very concerned about colorblindness when developing these products. I can barely make out all the light grey/grey/dark grey/grey stuff.

Mar 13, 2011Is there a way to use actionscript to change the stacking order of objects?I run two functions when i start my game, one that adds the player and set it's properties and one that generates the map. The add player function is run last so the player will appear above the map, the problem is that i have some objects on my map that i would like to appear infront of the hero, like certain tree's for example.
Is there a way i can make these objects appear infront by using actionscript? Using different layers won't work as everything is generated dynamically.
Flash :: Getting A Reference To A Textbox In Order To Dynamically Change The Font?
Jul 4, 2011I am unfamiliar with Flash and actionscript and I need help to dynamically change the font of a textbox based on the value of a flashvar. I have a flash template whose content I can edit through XML. The flashvar value specifies the language and points to a different XML file. This works without problems, and I have found online a way to change the font via actionscript. However I need help on how to get a reference to that textbox.
There are two files an .fla and Main.as file. Within the fla file there is a single Scene and when the textbox is selected the properties display "thisLogo" as its name and "Dynamic Text" in the combo box below. Within the Main.as file I have attempted to add the following code:

Actionscript 3 :: Change To Flex Sdk 4.5 In Order To Work With Flash Player 11
Oct 24, 2011I hava a project in flashdevelop 4.0 and I used flex sdk 4.0.
Although I add support for FP 11 in flex config file and also in project settings and compiler options, I still get my project stated after comiplation in FP 10 not FP 11. (I uninstalled FP 10 with adobe unninstaller).
And also when I embed the swf in html page with swfobject I keep getting that I need to install FP 11 which is already installed.
So I am asking is it neccesary to migrate to flex sdk 4.5 in order to use FP 11?
If this is not a programming question than move it, but I dont know where to place it elsewhere.
Flash - Drawing Sprites Between Layers On MovieClip
Aug 10, 2011Is it possible to draw a sprite, on a movieclip, on a specific layer? I have a MC I created in the Flash designer, and it has 3 layers on it, background, some layout stuff, and then some text. In actionscript i've created a Sprite object in code, drawn a rectangle on it, and added it to the stage with addChild (called from within the MC). The problem is, the sprite is always being drawn above all the layout stuff I added in the designer. Is there any way to add the sprite to the MC at a specific layer? In this case the background layer. I tried changing the z on the sprite and no effect.

The main body of the banner--which includes hyperlinks--and the background of the entire banner must change as the user mouses over the four areas. See the diagrams at the following link (it is not working properly):I attempted to complete this task as follows, but it really isn't behaving properly. I created a layer of buttons and text, and set the alpha levels to 0 for the "over" state of each button. I then created four separate layers containing the appropriate content. When the user mouses over a button on the left, the proper layer would be displayed. I planned to use Actionscript to accomplish this; pseudocode here:

1. Is assigning variable names to checkboxes and radio buttons the same as in visual basic? I mean i know that you probably assign them in the properties. ex..say i name a radio button 'radio1', to run a check in my actionscript whether radio1 was checked or not would it be something like if(radio1){}
2. After the person fills out the form I would like to have the results of the order sent to a pre-specified email adress in a certain format. What would be a good way to do this?

May 18, 2009I currently have a scene in Flash CS4 that consists of an image layer1 (converted to a motion tween), image layer2 (converted to a motion tween), an actionscript 3.0 layer, and a hotspot layer. Let's say the animation is 10 frames long for simplicity. At frame1 I want the visibility of image layer 1 turned on and the visiblity of image layer 2 off. Then, I want to spin image layer 1 and 2 simaltaneously (I know how to do this with motion tweens of course) but mid-spin, say at Frame 5, I wish to turn on the visiblity of image layer 2 and turn off the visibility of image layer 1.
How do i change the visiblity properties of my image layers with actionscipt? I assume there is a class I need to load and then change the properties of the image layers in the actionscript layer at the corresponding frames I wish those properties to change.

Aug 10, 2009I'm using a really simple bit of code on some fading in/out buttons which overlap each other slightly to ensure that the one with the cursor resting over it sits in front of the others:[code]problem being that this brings the button in front of everything across all layers. How do I change my swapdepths to make sure the layers above the buttons STAY above? - or do I need to add something to the other layers to give them a fixed 'depth'?

Jan 15, 2004[URL] Theres the example to work with....anyway....as you can see, im loading in movies externally...each on its OWN different level....what i want to do is make it so that when i click a menu option on the left, the current swf loaded on the stage closes and the new one comes up (to avoid the clutter of 10 differnt windows all scattered).....here are my thoughts:
1. have variables on the root timeline that are basically "currentLoaded" and "currentLevel" -- which basically will store the name of the currently loaded swf and the level that its on.
2. each swf would have code on frame one that would see if the 'currentLoaded' varible is blank, and if not...it will close the current loaded swf ....
my dilemma is that i dont know how to change the level dynamically...i know you could do the instance name like this:

This is a "canvas" I'm using to drag mc's around on to make various pictures.I've set up my code so I can click any mc in that list and make it "selected". I can then, with controls outside "theContainer", change the selected clip's scale or alpha, etc.I'd like to set up 2 buttons outside that display list so I can change the stacking order of those clips in "theContainer".So if I add clip "a" to the display list, then add clip "b" to the display list, then add "c" and "d" and "e and "f" to it, I want to be able to move any of those clips forward or backward.First I'd need to learn what the index is of the clip I want to move up or down in the display list.[code]That's my problem, I can't know what the index is, or how to get a property to find it.I'm looking for a way to "get the clip's index" then to "make the index, the current index + 1", to move it up in the display list."setChildIndex( dispObj, index ) would be nice if I could know what the index was and then add +1 to it like this:setChildIndex(clip, current index + 1);

Nov 15, 2009I have a main swf that I load external swfs onto the stage. I am trying to fix the loading order. Currently when a button is pressed, the swf is preloaded, the current swf is on the stage with the preloader showing, then the preloader disappears and the swf plays the outro transition.
how to change the order so that currently loaded swf is removed from the stage, show the preloader and then show the new swf.
