Sep 14, 2009I am setting up a page that will read in data from an xml file. Text on the page will de read from the xml file and siplayed on the screen. I am also reading a website in from the xml file that I would like some of the the text to link to. Feb 13, 2007i'm attempting to resolve a problem with targeting. i would like to target multiple iframes from a link that has been pulled into a flash document. basically, the link needs to load a title and an mov file. the mov file has to be loaded into an iframe, but the title could be loaded into another dynamic text field.. i'm using a text file that is loaded into a dynamic text field. the link within the text file currently looks like this:

Professional :: Get Buttons To Link Back To A Symbol?
Oct 26, 2010I am an extreme newbie at Flash and AS3.I've just been reading all I can this past week and trying to put together what I had hoped was a simple project in flash for our Website banner. I'll try to describe my project and the part that I am stuck at.[URL]..
You'll see a large green banner near the top of the page that advertises one of our products. In Flash, I have created a rotating banner with five images like the one shown on our site. I have it rotating on an 8-second basis, and I have it so that when someone clicks on my invisible button (the whole banner part) that it goes to that product's web page. I've also added five small buttons in the bottom right corner, so that someone can hover over them and go back to one of the rotating images if they missed what was shown, etc.
I have figured out how to create the buttons and have them shown red, when hovered on each layer. The part that I am stuck at, is I don't know how once I write my action for each button, to have them link back to one of these rotating banner images. I know this is possible, I just don't know AS3 or any programming for that matter to understand what my options are for the function script. I have each one set up as an instance so that I can add the EventListener when they click on it, I just don't know what to put other than a URL, since that is all I am familiar with. Professional :: Assign A Link To An Image Without Converting It To A Symbol?
Feb 12, 2011I've seen alot of instructions online on how to assign a hyperlink to an image. Alot of them say to convert the image to a symbol first and then add the appropriate Actionscript code (getUrl). I'm just wondering if there is a way to do it without converting it to a symbol (converting it to a symbol seems to add an artifact to one of the borders of the pic). Does anyone know if this can be done? Or must all images be converted to symbols to get links assigned to them?

A text file no worky because it contains a "&" symbol. So I was forced to look into XML (probably for the best anyway, because the organization is unmatched).. Here is what I did:

Everything is great except textDis.nodeValue traces null everytime.. it does not in some other example files I was working with.. I also tried tracing just "textDis" but that returns the value of it WITH the tags and replaces all symbols with &alt; sytax..

Jun 10, 2010I have created some graphic symbols from text (convert to symbol>>graphic), and when I double click them (in the editor), they remain text. Others from several month ago seem to remain symbols when double-clicked. The other thing I have noticed is some of my buttons have bulls-eye type circles on top of them, while new ones I create have an empty black circle. All the new ones I created do not seem to work properly, and I am wondering why this is by working backwards.

When I have the text box in a horizontal orientation the text shows up in my animation but when I turn it into a vertical orientation my text does not show up. Oct 5, 2011In my project, there is a frame(png files) placed on the top of all symbols. After that, I apply mouse click event to the symbols that place underneath the frame symbol, but when I run the the game, I cannot click to the below symbols but only the frame symbol, although the frame is transparent.
The problem is, although the png picture has some transparent area, the mouse click cannot pass through it. Is there solution? Is there anyway I can disable a symbol from being clicked and mouse click event can recognize the symbol placed under it?

Sep 3, 2009How do I replace a graphic symbol ? It is actually made up of 3 layers including a textbox and bullet. When I double click on the symbol, I get the Text Properties menu.
When I single click on the symbol on the stage, the properties menu shows a Swap button. When I choose the correct symbol and click OK, it looks like it worked but it still shows the original symbol name (Instance of it) on this Properties menu.
Another issue is that when I change one of the symbols (by double clicking on the symbol and then double clicking on the text layer), it does change the text on that layer. However, then it changes the text on the other symbol as well even though they are different symbols.
Note that I can edit the original symbol and the new one. Both symbols are different. In other words, they each show the different text (which is what I want). It's like the original symbol is attached/embedded and cannot be changed.
Background on this issue: Rather than create a brand-new layer, I copied all the frames in a layer to a new layer because it has a motion tween on it. I only need to change the symbol that is in the motion tween. This is the only action/event happening on both layers.
