ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading Image Into SWF - How To Increment Smoothing

I am loading an image into my swf. My code is:
var imageLoader:Loader = new Loader();
imageLoader.load(new URLRequest("btnover/Capture2.gif"));
imageLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);
imageLoader.smoothing = true;
But I get an error:
1119: Access of possibly undefined property smoothing through a reference with static type flash.display:Loader.
The image is a set size but the swf resizes with the browser, and the image becomes pixelated.

I've done quite a bit of digging but it's surprisingly difficult to find informed answers to these questions. I'm making a Flash game with a friend; as far as we can tell, the code is fine, but there are some serious framerate problems that seem entirely related to the graphics.
Is there a performance difference between Movieclips as JPGs and PNGs? Most of our graphics are imported as PNGs because they have transparent sections, but I don't know whether there is a performance difference between setting image compression to JPG or PNG within Flash itselfDoes turning on "Smoothing" for an image affect performance?Obviously larger graphics have more of a performance hit, but is there any benefit to splitting a large image into pieces? Example, changing a 2000*1000 background into two 1000*1000 pieces? One thing is most of our graphics are as much as twice the size in the library as they are displayed onscreen, then scaled in the code. We had wanted to make the game still look good when zoomed in/fullscreened but that doesn't seem practical so I'm planning on resizing all of the image files to their final size in the game and removing the scaling code. Hopefully that's the major part of the problem.

Is there a way have smoothing = true on an image on the stage that isn't dynamically added.I know about "allow smoothing" .What I want to do is have the image smoothing = true when mouse is over the image so a tween event can occur. The reason I want to do it like this is because I don't like it when "allow smoothing'is ticked the image is blurred.

I have a very simple flash movie.
24 png images in the Library The image properties are set to 'Export for Actionscript' and the class named 'image1', 'image2' etc Single frame in the timeline
I need to dynamically load 'image1' on the stage at the start of the movie. I have been able to do this using BitmapData ojects.
On clicking the image, I need to increment an internal image and replace the image on screen with image2.
When I try to pass the library class as a variable it throws an error.

I come across this again and again in flash. Using the default timeline based tweening (with the FPS set to 24)...is there any way of smoothing out the jerkiness? any AS i can add on frame 1 for example?

There's many options for ensuring externally loaded pngs have transparency but incorporating smoothing is a different story. I'm fairly certain I could just use the built in transparency boolean for the bitmapData function and set smoothing to true, however the white that is supposed to be transparent is turquoise.

i m loading images dynamically from a folder and i want when they show on the stage they retain their quality for that purpose i use 2 things first is
stage.quality = StageQuality.BEST;
and the second is with bitmap class after loading the images in loader i write..

I have some high res images that I am zooming in and out of, I have smoothing enabled that works fine when zooming in on the image, but when I zoom out and make the image smaller it pixelates it really badly. Is there any way i can resample the image or make the smoothing better when the image is small?

If you load a Bitmap object from a domain other than that of the Loader object used to load the image, and there is no URL policy file that permits access to the domain of the Loader object, then a script in that domain cannot access the Bitmap object or its properties and methods. I can understand this to some degree but all I want to do is scale the image and so that it doesn't look completely gash I want to smooth it and hence need Bitmap.
Smoothing to be accessible (I dont and never will have a cross-domain policy file). With video you can apply smoothing and thats coming from another domain, I can even take a bitmap snapshot of the video and so I really dont understand why they wont allow this. I am scaling the image to fit the screen either as bestfit or streched and so scaling at 0.5, 2, 4 etc wont work.

I have a image gallery slideshow, and when it loads an external image there is no smoothing applied. So being as this slideshow scales a image to the browsers window size, the image gets pixelated.Problem is, being as i did not make this slideshow myself, i dont know how to apply smoothing. And the AS code is very long, so i cant really paste it all on here.So i want to know if there is a way to force image smoothing on any image that is loaded in to the slideshow .swf? or any other way i can do it?This is with CS4 and publish settings are Flash 8 AS2.

Currently trying to create a dynamic flash slider that basically displays a series of thumbnails which the user can rollover and click on. The idea being that on rollover the thumbnails enlarge slightly before returning to their normal size on rollout.

in flash there is a setting to 'allow smoothing' for images that are imported. how can i do this in AS3 so that the images i dynamically load are smoothed (because when i scale them they look bad).

I set up this sample movie clip in the hopes to figure out a problem I'm having:[code]In the above code, I can add the contents of myImageLoader to myMovieClip with no issues and it resizes as expected (and consequently artifacts appear). With the final two lines of code, apparently myBitmap is not being loaded with the contents of myImageLoader.content which will cause the final line to fail with the following error:Code:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.at loadImageTest_fla::Main Timeline/frame1()I understand the error, I just don't get why the contents are not being loaded into the bitmap object.

I'm creating a dynamic image gallery that resizes the images to fit the gallery size, and then smooths them out.I feel like I'm super close to getting it to work perfectly. The image smoothing always works, but the resizing is kind of iffy. The first image displayed will resize just fine, but when you view any others they're all distorted or squashed. What's strange is that I've traced out the resized image dimensions and they're exactly what they should be, but the images are still not resizing correctly.
Here's my code! I only included the parts of it that are really relevant, but let me know if you guys want to see all of it. It's a combination of a few tutorials that I found. I may be able to provide a live example, but it's for work so I'm not sure how the nondisclosure agreement would affect that.

I know the hitTestObject produces a boolean value so if I ask it to ++ a variable it will continually increment until the objects have stopped hitting each other. But is there a way to just get it to increment a variable by 1 on collision?
I ask because I have a racing game and when the car crosses the start/finish line I want to increment "var lap" by 1.

there will be a simple solution to my problem. I have an onEnterFrame event that happens when I am dragging a wheel. At a certain point during dragging, a boolean statement is set to true, and a mc with 120 (120*3=360) frames is targeted, so that when the user drags a wheel, if rotation is incremented +/-3, the mc._currentframe is +/- one frame.
the mc is 120 slices serving as a mask of a circular bar, which is hidden or exposed depending on the rotation of the wheel by the user. The problem I have is tracking when the rotation has incremented by +/- 3, since Im using onEnterFrame I cant find out how to store the rotation variable somewhere when it hits the +/-3 mark, and then continuly check for the next increment. I developing a site where on the homepage, there are about 6 images that rotate, but if you click on a sub link, a different image loads. But the problem is that, the first image has to cycle through before the second image loads. I want the second image to load immediately.

[code]This script is for a loader image gallery in flash, as part of a class assignment. What happens is that in flash, when I open the swf file, the initial image (images/nair_evanescentautumn.png) will load fine. However, clicking on any thumbnail image (including the exact same images/nair_evanescentautumn.png), will result in an error saying the file cannot be found.I cannot figure out why it is doing this... I've tested it over. Clicking each thumbnail does go to the correct position in the two separate functions. All said full-size image links are in the folder images/, and replacing the initial loader image will load the other images in place of the default one. However, clicking on any thumbnail still results in URL not found, even though everything works correctly.[code]Before anyone asks why I'm putting this kind of content into a flash site, I'm not--this is only for a class assignment. I'm just trying to figure out why my images aren't loading right when I'm only doing the exact same thing in the functions as I am on the other pages.Of note, commissions.swf has the exact same feature, just with swf files loaded instead, and it works perfectly fine. home, traditional, digital, and photography all have the image gallery, and all have the same issue (I only referenced one page because if I can fix one page I should be able to fix all of them).As for the artworks, they are all my fiance's. The website design was built for her, and I used the website design for this project because I didn't want to have to build an entirely new interface design. Since the project also required a gallery, I felt that this interface would work just fine.

I tried searching for an answer to this on the forums and it seems you can't duplicate a movieclip that has a dynamically loaded jpg in it, I mean you just get a duplicate empty movieclip?What I want to do is have 3 copies of a pic, each tinted a little differently, and have them converge and reveal the "composite" of this pic. Do I then have to use loadMovie 3 times?Does loading the same 50kb image at the same time mean you're actually loading 150kb?

Is it possible to capture the image loading event like when the image is fully loaded and such when it is assigned to the htmlText of the textFiel???
I have a scrollPane that contains a textField which is loading an image via img tag where there is no scrollbars initially because the textField is not large enough in the beginning, but it is larger than the scrollPane after the image is fully loaded.. and I am trying to update the scrollPane once the image is fully loaded..

I am trying to create an increment within a loop, that gradually increases and then decreases. The total of all increments should equal the total change.
I am using the following equation:

The problem is, when the trace output at frame 60 should be _totalInc == _change. why it's a few degrees short?
By the way, totalInc is purely used to debug and is not needed in the final program. I am interested in inc.

Ive got a drag and drop activity and Id like to add some useful feedback on successful completion. However, I cant get my variable to increment by just 1 as it goes loopy in its current location in my code.
There are 10 drag movieclips and 2 targets.
Most of the code is on the main timeline but I have also put code on each drag movieclip. in Flash click on the mc showing the words "Checking data" to see the code that should increment the count by 1.
The idea is to have this code on each drag mc then the total should reach 10 at which point I will be able to detect the count and do something special to give feedback. The FLA is attached.
