ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading A Massive Amount Of Images?
Nov 21, 2010
I made an app. I figured out how to load all my images into in.
I have about 1000 images and 1000 sounds that I am using in it. About 70MB of data
How will this affect a users computer?
Is it even possible the load up this much content?
I ask because I am getting stack overload error on my bulkloader!
Scares me to think that months of work will go down the drain because I can't load this much data!

I am using an external actionscript file, and I have dynamically loading images that stay on the screen for X amount of seconds (the user can set the value of x), then it loads the next image. However, this user would like for there to be a transition, For Example, have it fade out and have the next image in line fade in after the image has been displayed on the screen for X amount of seconds. This user would also like a loading bar, much like the one on the flash banner here: [URL] between each image transition.
I also have it so when someone hovers over a button, the flash banner stops, once they rollout X is reset to 1 and starts the counter again, and sets the movie to play at frame 1. Here is the actionscript file: [URL]

I'm trying to do the following to a flash banner, I'd like to know if it's possible and how I would code it/do it.
1. Unlimited amount of slide support. The banner must look for 01.jpg, 02.jpg, 03.jpg... etc. Let's say the current slidshow has 4 photos, they want to be able to just upload another image and create a new .as file to make it appear in the flash slideshow.
2. each link must be in its own independent script. For example 01link.as, 02link.as, 03link.as etc.

I have a quite large AS3 project, that involves loading external images and videos. The videos are requested one at a time. But for the sake of the UI experience I decided to load all images at once, added them to a container in different movieclips and then fade them in and out.
It all works fine, while I have 10 to 15 images, over that it starts to deteriorate the performance. Actually I'm not even sure that the problem is the performance, but the thing is that flash starts doing weird clunky behaviors, specially related to mouse interaction.This is a link where it works fine, with about 8 images in the xml.
[URL]
Probably the solution would be loading one by one, but if it's performance, what's going to happen when the timer slider cycles through 30 and they are all loaded anyways?

OK so I screwed up. I didn't plan properly for a project and now the client is saying that the loading time is long (2 mb). Is there anyway I can load just a certain amount of frames and then play them? (External SWF)

I have been having a serious issue with custom video where flash is saying that the amount of the video so far played is MORE than the amount that it has downloaded, which is clearly impossible. This results in various problems, such as the playhead (scrubber) moving past the end of the loader bar. I posted a simple demo that displays the amount loaded and the amount played in text fields. So I have been having a serious issue with custom video where flash is saying that the amount of the video so far played is MORE than the amount that it has downloaded, which is clearly impossible. This results in various problems, such as the playhead (scrubber) moving past the end of the loader bar.I posted a simple demo that displays the amount loaded and the amount played in text fields. You can see it at: URL...[code]I encoded the video at a high rate so that it would download slowly. It may not playback smoothly, which I am not concerned about. What I am concerned about is the numbers below the video what are derived from ns.bytesLoaded and ns.time. If you watch it for a bit, the amount played should exceed the amount loaded.
I double checked the video duration and the bytestotal that flash is reporting and they are correct. I don't know of any way to check the accuracy of bytesloaded.If your internet connection is super fast, you may not see the issue - it only occurs when it is playing back faster than it is downloading - if this is the case, you may need to throttle your speed down, or start downloading a large file while you are watching this demo in order to see the issue.But this is a serious issue and means that building custom video interfaces with loadbars and playheads is impossible!

I used the "loading random movie" tutorial (http:url....) to load 3 external movies. It worked great.But now, my client wants the movies to load one after the other. Each movie is interactive, but requires you to click on it, so it plays an intro and stops. Each movie is built exactly alike. So, I would like a movie to play, then stop for a certain length of time (long enough for the user to read some text). If after that length of time, the user does not intereact with the movie, then I want the next movie to play in it's place. If the user does interact with the movie, I want it to just stop at that movie.

I've been building my app' and testing it every day by exporting it to a movie, and testing everything.It's all been going very well and the .swf is usually exported to my desktop in less tha the time it takes to minimize the Flash window.Today I started work on my .fla (mark18) and added a "back" button to every scene (it takes the user back to a main page with the actionscript:
on (release) {
_root.gotoAndPlay("Main");
}
There are 9 scenes which are very short.BUT, when I tried to export it, it took about 15 minutes to export.

I got this website at work which I've just updated.It was working pretty well, yesterday I showed it to a friend.And it was working perfectly. This morning, I hear sound but all i get is a black screen.It works on every other browser (chrome, firefox, SeaMonkey, etc.) but in Internet Explorer, black screened.If anyone can,I need a quick solution, my bosses are freaking out and that is kindda out of my league as for "trouble shoot".Why something that was working not even 12 hours go goes awry on me today?

this is the offending bit of code:
for (var i in yearMarkersArray) {
yearMarkersArray[i].x = ((timelines.x + 350) % 140) + (140 * i) - 5;
yearMarkersArray[i].text = "0";
}
This is part of the main loop that triggers whenever the user drags the zoomed-out timelines (the sprites in eventsArray) left or right. The six TLFText objects in yearMarkersArray appear to scroll left or right with the user, but are really repositioned and relabeled with the correct year markers as calculated by a function I did not include above (it's working and not relevant to this problem, I simply replaced it with the "0" for clarity).
The text-setting statement is the problem code...I've commented literally everything else out of the main loop to verify it. I even changed the statement to not involve any function call (simply setting the text attribute to "0"), and it still causes the final .swf to eat an extra 1% of my CPU every 15 seconds until finally the FPS crashes through the floor. The rest of the main loop has much, MUCH more complex and I'm sure inefficient code that also runs every frame,Since this project reads a data file with a list of timeline events whose span of years I cannot predict, I do need the displayed year markers to be done dynamically in some way. The code ultimately works (I only noticed the ridiculous slowdown when I accidentally left the movie open and idle for a few minutes),

I am making a snow boarding game in AS3. The problem I am having is that I want to leave a trail in the snow behind the board.
I have had a think and feel that the best way of achieving this would be to use the lineTo() method to draw a line form the snowboards previous position to its current position. If I do this all of the way down the slope I would end up with a line almost 23000 pixels long which seems extremely large and will have a major impact on performance.
If I were to convert the trail movieclip to a bitmap would it improve performance? I am targeting a minimum of flash player 9 which I have found to have issues when handling bmp's over 2880 pixels so I think this method might not work.

I see this quite a lot and I was wondering if there was a way to refactor this nicely to avoid the massive switch? This is a method in a factory: RoomControllerFactory, instantiating a game location based on its type. Here's an example from a switch in the factory method:

I have created a class that I've been using as the storage for all listings in my applications. The class allows me to "sign" an object to a listing (which can be created on the fly via the sign() method like so):
manager.sign(myObject, "someList"); This stores the index of the element (using it's unique id) in the newly created or previously created listing "someList" as well as the object in a 2D array. So for example, I might end up with this:

So I am trying to embed some simplified Chinese into my flash file. When I turn off embed fonts the flash file is fine. If I add simplified chinese char set it makes the swf massive. Is there a way to embed a smaller character set than the ones flash offers. Standard English Characters if I add all the characters and pnctuation amount to 106, simplified Chinese is 11,218 it just is not doable.
So
(i) Can I smooth html text in flash
or
(ii) Can I used a reduced character set?

Explaination: MX 04' Pro Thumbnail Nav. loading images with XML Loader resizes and displays images when users click on Nav. reading XML Problem: Users click Thumbnail Nav. first image gets loaded and loader resizes to image. However the next choice by user on thumbnail click, the second image doesnt get resized in the loader. It goes beyond holder. Here is my code for Thumbnail and Loader:
[Code]....
Now the first image loads fine and the loader sizes to file from XML. However, when users click second choice from Thumbail the loader doesnt resize to new image size. It only gets resized on the first selction or if users click the next or prev. buttons then the images fade correctly but nothing fades back in. Now if they do hit next or prev and then hit a thumbnail option it loads and resizes.

I need to load dynamically a few images (4-6) so that by clicking on particular image user would invoke particular action. Embedding images solves the problem but at the expense of file size. If I load them dynamically, they lose their ID.
<comps:ExercisesScroller id="scroller" x="300" y="100"
ex1="@Embed(source='assets/Exerc_1.png')"
ex2="@Embed(source='assets/Exerc_2.png')"/>
and so forth this works. But instantiated in CDATA it does not work:
import components.ExercisesSCroller;
private var custScroller:ExercisesScroller;
private function init():void {

I want to have an AS3 app load images from url supplied by the user. But I don't want a malicious user to be able to load an SWF file in place of the image, such as with an altered extension "maliciousSwf.png". Well, not sure how big a security threat that is above and beyond the ability of the hacker to decompile swf, but I think that ideally such behavior should not be allowed.
So, is there any way to prevent this? When people allow users to load images in their Flash apps, do they somehow guard against loading of SWF? Or is this really absolutely no big deal?

How would you defer loading of other graphics on the page until after the images in a Flash gallery's images.xml file are finished loading?Is there any way to detect for this, or would I only be able to check if the flash swf object is finished loading? I'm pretty sure the swf object would be loaded/ready as with document.getElementById('flashobject').onload = function(){}; before the corresponding images have loaded though, instead of after.

I am trying to import some images into flash using an XML file. My XML file seems to load fine, and my code seems to find the URL of the images to load. However when I actually try to load the images into my Loader nothing. This is my code that is relevant:
-----------------
public var xml:XML;
public var xmlList:XMLList;
public var imageLoader:Loader;
[Code].....
So as you can see my xml file is loading, my URLRequest seems to be finding the image path and filename (the paths are correct and those files are located there) however my imageLoader doesnt seem to actually load them .

I have a flash site, which uses XML to load an image gallery, but it cant find the images on the server even though they are there. It works fine locally.In firebug, each image is listed in the net tab as found, but when you click on it, there is an error message..Plus an error page is listed for each of the images.If you click on one of the other button's in the gallery strip on the site, it tries to find Freeola's (my host) 'crossdomain.xml' file which doesn't seen to be there, could this be a cause?

When you click on film or any of the other galleries, the galley does not load. I don't know whether this has something to do with the hosting or not. I have a movieclip, which moves around as you move the cursor. This is called "layout".Inside this movieclip, i have ALOT of smaller movieclips, around 100 i think.These movieclips all have different measurements, and different instance names, and placed differently around the stage. To keep track of them all, ive devided them into 8 "groups". Movieclips from the first group are named "g01_i01", "g01_i02", "g01_i03" all the way to "g01_i27". Movieclips from group 2 are named "g02_i01", "g02_i02", to "g02_i11"... - I think you get the picture.Then i have 8 folders with my images devided into aswell. These are called "gallery01", "gallery02" to "gallery08". The images inside the folders are named similar to eachother. "img01.jpg", "img02.jpg" to "img27.jpg" in the "gallery01" folder, but only to "img11.jpg" in "gallery02".Im really trying to make the structure clear.
Ive tried loading all these images into my flash movie just by using actionscript, but it bugs alot. I dont know if its just me who cant manage it, or because its simply not the best way to do it.So i figured that loading them in via XML might be the real way to go. Only problem is, i have never used XML, and have no idea how do use it. Tried looking through a couple of tutorials, but its still too complicated for me to actually make it work with my project.It simply has to load the images from all the folders, into their specific movieclips. No discriptions of the images, no thumbanils or anything. Just simply load all the images.
