ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading Sound Variable From Within Function?
Jan 29, 2009
I have made a sound sequencer where users can record their own sounds and add them to the sequencer, my problem is that I want to be able to change the sounds during the running of the program. Here is the simplified code for importing and loading a sound in ready to be played.
var BASS:String = "bass.mp3";
function bassURL() {
var bass:Sound=new Sound(new URLRequest(BASS));
}
[Code].....
The reason I put the URLRequest and Sound in a seperate function is because I want to be able to change the var BASS to different mp3's during the program. Obviously when I run this it tells me that it can't find 'bass' because its a var inside another function. How can i get it to refer to 'var bass' inside bassURL?
However, on a bright note its coming!!!! So far, everything is going well and I am now seeing the light with AS3I do have a question on returning a variable from a function that loads an external CSS. This particular function is located inside a LoadStyleSheet.as class along with another public function that sets text properties to fields when accessed. What I am looking for is accessing the stylesheet after its been loaded in another class. I know in AS2 I could use the Delegate method for something similar to this situation. Not sure what the next step is for AS3. Anyhow, function script is below.
ActionScript Code: public function loadStyleSheetItem(loadStyleSheet_str:String):void { var styleSheet_css = new StyleSheet;
I'm having some trouble getting the following code to work - trying to use the new Sound.extract() function to get two seconds of a Sound into a ByteArray, and then create a new bytearray with a WAV header, and then output the file. The resulting 'test.wav' file sounds very wrong although slightly recognisable? I think I may have some of the WAV header settings may be wrong but I'm not quite sure what's the matter and after a long time scratching
I have a flash header that was never completed because the guy I hired took people's money and ran. So now I even wonder if what he said could work with my flash header is true or not. But, usually there is always a way to make it work.
I have a flash header that does two important things: 1) Upon entering the site, it loads and plays an audio track 2) Makes an animal noise when you hover over each animal menu item. (not sure if I'm able to give a link to it or not on here. If I able to and someone would like to see it let me know)
I want to know if my flash header can support the following additional functionality/changes:
1) Currently, it loads everytime a page is selected. I only want it to load the one time of entering the site because the audio gets annoying. Set a cookie maybe?
2) But, I do not want to turn the audio off completely because I still want the hover over each menu item sound.
3) Have a link on it to allow them to select to turn on / off the sound completely. It currently has that, but only for the current page. Once you select another page, the audio is back to on.
4) Lastlly, is there a way for it to detect that someone doesn't support flash and to display an html version of it? And can flash create a html version from my fla file?
I don't know much about flash (but am learning) so I'm not sure if I'll be able to do this myself. However, I want to find out if my flash header will even work this way before I invest the time learning it just for these changes. I know it will be pretty deep with script code, but I'm hoping I could find base code already available for these features. Not sure I can afford help now because of being laid off and two different scammers taking advantage of me. So I'm going to try to do myself and see if there is any suggestions/support on here that can help. I have Flash CS4.

When loading a MP3 to a flash.media.Sound object the id3 property gives an error:
SecurityError: Error #2000: No active security context.
Offcourse, like many errors in Flex, the Flex documentation doesn't mention a thing about this, except that it exists...
The MP3 is valid (i've checked it with MediaPlayer and iTunes), the Sound object is in a good state (bytesTotal and bytesLoaded both reflect the correct amount of bytes).
how you would target a function's local variable through a concatenated variable string.For example:
var txt = "Hello World"; function testing(msg) { var test1 = msg;[code].........
I'd expect the trace to be "Hello World" but rather is given "undefined". So if variables created outside functions are created on the main timeline, where are local function variables created and how would you access them?
I'm trying to combine PHP/SQL and Flash. I've got a problem now. I want to load a variable that contains an url to an image. so the variable is like this: [URL] Now I want flash to load the image, not the text. The variable is called 'img1' but the loadmovie function doesn't work when I put it in.
I want to monitor a variable. Whenever the variable value changes I want to call a function. In actionscript 2 I can use "watch" but in as3 what can do ?
I have a set of Cue Points in an FLV I'm playing. It's an interactive quiz, so the idea is that flash will change a variable, theAnswer, to a different letter depending on which question it is. The answer to question 1 is B, question 2 is D, etc. Either the cue point event listener isn't working, or else it is working and Flash isn't declaring the variables. 1120: Access of undefined property theAnswer. I literally can't find a single problem with my code. I have an almost identical Event Listener further down which works.
I need to pass a variable to a function inside a function. However this parameter (i) seems not to be passed (to function ...onRollOver). This is required to attach a textfield to a movieclip (reading the adress and showing it as a tooltip).
ActionScript Code: for (i=0; i<array_BE_ElecCities.length; i++) { var attachElecCity = mc_map.mc_places.attachMovie("Plant",
I want to create a vector, then call a function that populates that vector with arrays. Fine. The only catch is the function itself will declare new array variables to put into the vector, but are these new array variables private to the function only?e.g. something like this
ActionScript Code: public var vec:Vector.<Array> = new Vector.<Array>(); private function populateVec():void {
[code]....
Is this "kosher"? a was declared in the private function but added to something outside the function..?
I have an SWF that's 30MB. Sound files (music) make up 25MB, art and other things make up the remaining 5MB.
Would it be possible for me to load the 5MB of necessary art and other things first to allow the user to operate the app, then after that's all loaded and they are operating the app, load the remaining 25MB of sound files in the background?
UPDATE: Loading SWF (or other entities) externally is not an option.
How can I stop a sound variable playing? Say I have sound playing on the first frame.
var nar1:Narration1 = new Narration1(); nar1.play(0,0);
I have a button and when it's clicked, I want "nar1" to stop playing, and a new sound to begin. I would imagine this works, but it doesn't:
var nar2:Narration2 = new Narration2(); nextbutton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, playnar2); function playnar2(e:MouseEvent):void{ nar1.stop(0,0); nar2.play(0,0); }
Instead, "nar1" keeps going and "nar2" just plays over it. I tried SoundMixer.stopALL, but that just stops all sounds and I don't want that.
seem to be having issues with sound, ideally I want separate sounds so I can fade some out set the volume differently etc... if I have more than one of these eg.
var mySound1:Sound = new Sound(); var mySound2:Sound = new Sound();
when the second sound comes in the first is cancelled out or drops in volume on the left or right speaker
var myVar:String = LoaderInfo(this.root.loaderInfo).parameters.myVar; var snd:Sound = new Sound(new URLRequest(myVar)); var channel:SoundChannel = snd.play();
I have this problem when I try to fade in sound with the function below. It just doesn't work and I can't figure out where the problem is.I would like to fade in a looping sound but nothing happens.this is used to play a sound via events
Heres my doubt i give the search a try but theres nothing similar, Ive made this simple function, then I call on especific frames, the doubt is, I just want to "play" the mc one time because it have a sound inside, the sound must be played just one time and then finish, how can I achieve that...?[code]...
How can I change the following so it won't conflict with sounds inserted manually in keyframes. Currently when this function is active, the loop sound works but the other sounds don't play..
Code: soundTrack = new Sound(); soundTrack.attachSound("loop");
I am working on a piece now that will have 10 invisible MC's (1-10) stacked on frame 1 in seperate layers that function like buttons on the main timeline. Each of these mc's will trigger a corresponding mc (A-J) to become visible and play and also start a sound file. This I have all worked out.
What I am writing about is a random function. When 1 triggers A, I would like one of five distinct MC's inside of A to be randomly selected to play, both with sound and with image.
Right now I'm working on the random function with sound, and I'm in need of soome assistance. I'm not sure of my approach, but why I'm stuck in particular now is because ususally when attaching a sound to an MC, when the sound is called it is through the name of the sound rather than the mc name and as I've created a random function I can't very well call the sound name as then it won't be random. Here's what I've got:
sound1 = new Sound(soundHolder1_mc); sound1.attachSound("chime"); sound2 = new Sound(soundHolder2_mc); sound2.attachSound("psychic");
