I'm having some troubles with the use of interface and inheritance in AS3. I've done lots of OOP in the past and what I'm trying to do seems obvious to me, but doesn't work in AS3. The question is : Is it possible to override a function that return an Object of class A, and make it return an Object of Class B which extends A ? It seems not to be possible, since I'm getting a signature error in Flash, when compiling. For example, the following set of class do not compile (the code in function definition doesn't matter):

I have some swfs that i want to combine: I have the main.swf that containes buttons, and i want each button to lead to an external swf. I have already done that.What i dont know is how to return to main.swf. I want all external swfs to have a button called "Back to menu" and go back to main.swf

so, i want to get my data XML var back to main, i get NULL (i think is oncomplete fault )
I found myself loading a new XML file every day and so decided to create a small class that will load the xml file and return it.The class is loading the file but when i try to return it to a new xml object in the document class it doesnt load it.I think that it's something to with the return being in a nested function but i tried a few ways and non seems to work.

I am using actionscript 2.0 and I am trying to develope a line in 3d space. When I try to create a line base off of two variables, it doesn't work.

I'm using Insertion sort on a partially sorted array:

The problem is that since products are removed from time to time, my array may contain null references for some indexes. Thus the above algorithm will throw an error in runtime.
Usually I'd just do a quick check i.e.
if(productArray[i] != null)
and I'd be fine, but in this case I'm constantly checking properties in the while loop and I'm not really sure how to go about doing this.
I have this script that creates multiple timer objects with one funcion(reload) but I cant get it to stop or nullify. Can you spot the error?

I am in a movieclip, on the 1st frame of my main timeline. Once my movieclip has reached a point/finished, I would like return to the main timeline.
View 16 Repliesim creating a character sheet and all i have to do is get the character to do a few things, im using Stan from american dad, so he draws his gun, salutes, and does this guns speech, only problem is. i can get him to salute by using the code

this links fine, the salute is in a movieclip on frame 2 of the timeline, and the button is set to link to this.problem starts after the movieclip finishes playing, how to return to frame 1 on the main timeline, ive tried gotoAndStop("1") amongst other things (gotoAndStop ("Scene 1", 1)ive also tried frameLables too but that didnt work, though im not sure if i was doing that right to start with.Then im having a problem with my other buttons, even when set to on(release){gotoAndPlay("3");} they still go to frame 2 (with salute on)
My script have a list of .swf files and needs to play them one by one. My problem is that i can't detect when the movieclip (containing the swf) completes playing.
I understood that i need to copmare between _currentframe and _totalframes of the moviecip but i keep getting 1 as the _currentframe (my main timeline contains only 1 frame).

how to get a Class file up and going in Flash and that works fine but say I want to import other classes. I try "import testCass" above in my import statements section of my as file and that doesn't work. What do I have to do to get that to work?

I have just started using external AS3 files to try wean myself off using code in the main time line.I am importing an XML file using an external as3 file, but cant return the values to the main timelineIt worked when I used the trace option, but I need these values to dynamicly populate a movieclip on stage (another problem I cant add movie clip to stage even though I have the linkage etc)AS3 Code ----------------------------------

ok so i built a nice little CMS that is all XML driven, everything working pretty smooth you can open the documents edit them same them, make new ones, and so forth. the only issue that im hitting is that it will take the app some time before it understands the xml has changed.
so i built a refresh button, it removes all of the listeners nulls the two xml lists then rebuilds everything, but this will only work after sitting around for a minuet, if i refresh right after i add content or make a new file, it won't show. this isn't a huge issue since the files do eventually update, but i would like to figure out what is going on,

The Main class calls a function, which is defined in a Second class.I'm getting the following error:Error 1120: Access of undefined property myFunctionBasically, I am creating buttons in the Main class that will add a corresponding Child to an Object in the Second class (if you click one button, child x1 will be added, if you click another button, child x2 will be added, and so forth).Here's the relevant code for the Main.as file:

I have question regarding removing instantiated objects. Let's say i have a main class in which i instantiate a custom video player (or whatever) class:

And inside VideoPlayer class i have of course dozens of objects (movie clips, sprites representing different parts of VideoPlayer) and dozens of event listeners attached to them. My question is, if i want to remove this VideoPlayer class from my main class is it enough to just do:

I have a initApp.as which instantiates a class which needs to access the "currentState" property and the States array as well. However we cannot get this to work as we cannot see how we can access this information.
Within initApp.as currentState is accessed via "this.currentState". This does not work in the class which is instatiated within initApp.as. The following error is thrown:
"Access of undefined property currentState."

From my experience, if i don't destroy for example event listeners from my VideoPlayer class and just remove VideoPlayer class the way described they still get fired with null exception messages etc. This is something that's bugging me for a while so i would really like to know what's best thing to do here?
I have a main class which listens for an event dispatched from another class say class A. Also there are other classes say class B, class C etc.There is a controller class.Classes B, C dispatches events that gets listened by the controller and works well.But the events dispatched by the Class A doesn't get listened by the main class.What might be the problem. The main mxml file gets the input from a textArea. Sends the input to the capturedInput (input:String) function using set method which is in the ProcessInput Class.Now I need to dispatch events NORMAL, COMMAND depending on the input obtained after the processing, where I'm having problems. The reason is that if the event NORMAL is dispatched a particular function inside the DBController is to be called. If COMMAND event is dispatched then I need to call another function. This idea doesn't work since the events doesn't get listened.But the events dispatched by the CSDB class when listened by the DBController works well.
why my image won't load when I have it's class referenced from the document class rather that being in the document class?
This produces no errors and the second class traces the note, but it doesn't load the image.

I'm trying to load a RSL library into a flash animation developed with Flash CS5 IDE, that extends a custom class and implements an interface. I have reduced the problem to the simplest setup and find that I can have my main class extend another class or implement an interface, but not do both at the same time if I want to load an RSL.I have a very simple class to extend:

but if I want both I get the VerifyError: Error #1014 with MySprite not found and ReferenceError: Error #1065.
I am writing a method in a FileIO class called returnBMP()
The idea is: I want to pass it a file name, and I want it to return a Bitmap. ( not a loader )
The problem is that the only way I know how to pull a bitmap out of a loader is by creating an eventListener on the contentLoaderInfo for COMPLETE.
That just doesn't work in a return function. the return is executed before the bitmap is loaded. I get a null..

I'm not sure that I'm on the right track here. I've got what is essentially a 'gateway' movieclip and depending on the CLICK a corresponding movieclip (form) is loaded -- these all being in their own AS file. There are multiple corresponding pages that will all load/close in their own fashion but the 'gateway' will reload in it's own function-- consequently, I have this function on the main_AS. Can I trigger this function from the sub class or do I need to move the 'reload' function to a 'reload' class.
