I have a MovieClip (call it base_mc) which is under a bunch of other MovieClips (call them subclips). The MovieClips on top are all mouseEnabled with MOUSE_OVER, CLICK, etc, event handlers. I want to capture the event of MOUSE_OVER (or ROLL_OVER) on the base_mc as well. Any time I am over one of the subclips I am also over the base_mc clip. How can I capture this event?

I added a movieclip and named "bot_mc" in another movieclip. Then, In Action panel, I use bot_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.DOWN, xxxx). However, when I drag and drop the container movieclip on the main stage and compile. There is no error occurs but the MouseEvent doesn't work.

I have been working with this script for a few days now and have gotten to a near completed point, but I can't seem to script the final step. I have an xml file that is being parsed into my .fla file. There are 3 buttons which are dynamically created based on a tag called <navItem>. The function 'displayContent' should be displaying the appropriate chunk of xml in various text boxes, but instead, it only displays the last chunk (the 3rd chunk) no matter which button I click on. I have pasted my code on pastebin here:[URL]

When I listen to mouse click event on the stage, it seems it's not always responding to my mouse click event. what I have is:
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, Test);
function Test(event:MouseEvent):void
{
trace("test");
}
I usually have to click a few times randomly on the stage to get the trace statement.
I thought when I add this event listener to the stage, it should respond to any mouse click within the swf area, no?

I have been looking for a reference for this all over Google and even through the Adobe Forums but I can't find anything.I'm using Flash CS4, AS2. I'm calling an XML document to populate 2 text areas (textArea). In one textArea I need to display the firstChild (or ROOT node) and three childNodes after that. In the other textArea, I need to display the fourth childNode only.I am good to go for the second textArea, the one that only shows the fourth childNode. What I cannot figure out is how to hide that fourth childNode from my other textArea that calls for the same XML file. My code is written below, actionscript and XML.My textArea boxes are named "myText" and "myText2". "myText2" is the one that is working properly. I need to show only the <title> <description> and <price> tags in the "myText" box, not the <link> tag.
Flash AS2
//Set Image PropertiesmyImageBox.html = true;myImageBox.wordWrap = true;myImageBox.multiline = true;myImageBox.label.condenseWhite = true;myImageBox.setStyle("borderStyle","non

I have several stage event handlers to enable mouseovers over several dynamically generated moviecilps on the stage that then change their alpha to indicate the mouse is over that particular mc... fairly trivial (mcOver handler). Additionally, I also want to know what MC is clicked, so I update a public variable (public var activemc:Number) with the ID of the dynamic movieclip when the mouse is over it (using a hitTest to check, which is why the EventListener is added to stage and not to the MC), which is checked in the mcClicked handler:This is in the constructor:
//stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, startDrawing);
//stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, stopDrawing);
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, mcOver);[code]....
However, the mouseover behaviour (alpha 0 when over, alpha 1 when out) stops working as soon as I click on any movieclip on the stage, and the mcClicked ID checking (below) stops working completely. I don't know if this is to do with focus:
private function mcClicked(event:MouseEvent):void {
myTextField.text = String(activemc); // activemc is a public var:Number with the movieclip //ID
}
I then tried adding the event handler for the stage mouse_move again and this gets the mouseover working again but only for 1 more click, after which it stops again:
private function mcClicked(event:MouseEvent):void {
myTextField.text = String(activemc); // activemc is a public var:Number with the movieclip //ID
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, mcOver);

I'm making a application where the projector is played fullscreen, and the stage itself is not scalable. But I'd like to make an animation where movieclips come sliding onto the stage (starting outside the stage). But because everything is fullscreen, you can see these MC's outside of the stage, this is not what I want.is there a way to be able to hide everything that is outside of the stage?

I have a movie clip that displays an embedded html with a bunch of divs that are expected to hide and show other divs when the users click them. i.e. imagine that you have a span with an instruction in javascript to show a div when you click it. I already made the html file, the external css and the external js. The movieclip (in actionscript 3.0) loads and displays the html content and also the css, but i haven't managed to figure out how am i supposed to link or use the javascript to do the trick. I've tried so far doing an exhausting research over the internet for the past few days and the only infromation i've got is that web developers use externalInterface to access javascript functions, but they use flash buttons to execute the js code, and it appears to me that i cannot use or embed flash btns in my site. I don't know, I'm kinda new to flash and this is the first time I work with actionscript 3.[code]or how do I achieve de hide/show thing with another method? I'll be wandering around the site in case you have any extra doubts about this subject.

I'd like to know what is the difference between MouseEvent.CLICK & MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN. Because when i use MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN for a button to set full-screen view its doesn't work, instead of this MouseEvent.CLICK works. So what was the reason.

I'm making a button for the first time, and I wanted to use a full click to drive it. However, when I use addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClickHandler); nothing happens when I click on it. When I use (with the rest of the code being identical) addEventListener(MouseEvent. MOUSE_ down, onClickHandler); it works like a charm.

But I can't do the same to my SWF file.

hey, im trying to remove these movie clips from the stage but its not working. Im spawning the movie clip to the stage every time i slide the timeline_slider, which is instance name for a slider component.I manage to put the spawned movie clip in a array using push, but i don't know how to delete them. Because what i want to happen is that every time i slide the slider i only want a certain amount of movie clips on the stage, but what is happening is they spawn on the stage and stay there.for example. if i slide 1 across it spawns 5 mc if i slide again to the second increment it spawn 4 so total number on movie clips on the stage is 9.i want to only spawn the number of movie clips that increment on the slider is set to. i would also like it to work backwards as well, so if im on the second increment it should have 4 movie clips on the stage,and if i go back to the first increment i should only have 5 movie clips on the stage.Even just hiding the movie clips and unhiding the movie clips is fine as well. this is my code for spawning with the slider this is my arrays of the numbers are now many movie clips i want to spawn to the stage.[code]

myButton_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fNavigate, false, 0, true);

I have a MOUSE_DOWN handler that creates a CLICK event listener on a child object. Naturally, as soon as you release the mouse button, if you happen to be over the child object, the CLICK event fires.I was disappointed to discover that event.stopImmediatePropagation doesn't interrupt the CLICK event from registering the MOUSE_DOWN as part of its detection cycle. It makes sense that it doesn't but still... disappointing.A MouseEvent.CLICK consists of detecting a MOUSE_DOWN on the object and then if it's followed by a MOUSE_UP without leaving the object, he event fires. I had hoped that by cancelling the MOUSE_DOWN event, it would clear that out of the CLICK buffer, but no such potatoes, alas.This could all be handled with a flag and a couple more MOUSE_UP and MOUSE_DOWN handlers, but dang, smacks of effort

It's never been an issue since I always anticipate it but just wondering...
if I put a MouseEvent listener on a movieclip/sprite...
Code:
whatever.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickAction, false, 0, true);
function clickAction(e:MouseEvent):void {
trace(e.target);
}
that traces a movieclip inside the intended target...

Suppose, I created a MovieClip(with instance-name= "myClip") on the stage. If I need to process MouseEvent.CLICK event on this movieclip(myClip), then we use addEventListener(bla.... bla...); method.
Now, my requirement is, in certain case, I do not want to occur any MouseEvent.CLICK events on this same movieClip(i.e., myClip).Then, How to do this? (or) What is the method/class used in this context?
Atlast, My requirement is: How to remove/disable Mouse_CLICK events when occur on a MovieCLip.
