How hard is it to use html links to call a video player and send a source video file? I have a bunch of links that need to show a different video in a video player. Im wrestling with just making a new swf for each page that is hard coded or one player that can take an xml file name (containing video path and other text data).
View 3 RepliesI have a piece of Flash on an HTML page that when you hover over it, it expands out to reveal more information.There are text links that it expands over, however in everything but IE, when it's not expanded those links are still covered by the Flash making them unclickable.I have the Flash piece in a separate DIV wmode set to transparent.

View 2 RepliesI have a Flash based application that loads youtube videos using the YouTube API. Recently some videos that have previously played have stopped playing. When I click through to the YouTube site using the embedded Youtube link there is no indication as to why they should not play, for example removed content, not embeddable etc. Have there been any recent changes to youtube API that would result in this behaviour. It seems random to me and I cant find any pattern, or reason why this should be.
View 1 RepliesI'm building a site that needs to work both online (served in a browser using http://), and offline (served in a browser using file:///). The site is using basic HTML, but needs to be able to play FLV or MP4 videos. There are many video players that work online, but getting a player to work on the users machine is more problematic. Every one I have tried either doesn't work or shows a message about adding the flash movie to my trusted files in flash player.[code]Has anybody experienced a similar problem? Does anybody have a suggestion for alternatives that may work.

View 1 RepliesOn my website, I want my user to be able to launch video 2 at any point in the middle of video 1 without waiting or refreshing the window. How can I buffer the two videos such that I buffer video 1 enough to let it start playing, and then buffer just enough of video 2 that if the user launches it at any point, he does not have to wait to view its first few seconds, and then I can come back and buffer the rest of video 1? If this is not possible, I could also look at buffering video 1 and 2 in parallel while playing only video 1.

I've heard of the popular flash player called flowplayer, but I have a bad feeling such a player will not work on the ipad and other devices which do not support flash. I've tried to attach the HTML generated by the Flash IDE to this topic but both HTML and zip format were rejected for some reason.
I've got a PHP script that searches for links in a block of text and converts them to HTML values. The $message variable is then entered into my database using a simple INSERT. So far, so good. Then I have Flash parse the message using XML:

The problem, however, is that my links don't work. The rollover works from the CSS styling, but the links don't actually go anywhere. When I rollover the links, the hand cursor doesn't appear, and clicking only serves to change the color back to the non-hover value.
So, does anyone know of a cross plaform/browser compatible way of passing variables to flash from html or javascript?

Now what I need is the menu buttons( which are Movie Clips actually) to maintain in their pressed position when a particular button from menu is pressed (which actually I did inside flash, but everytime new hyperlink is followed, the website is refreshed and new SWF loaded without button being pressed obviously).
I know this can be done either by Frames which I do not want or passing an argument in URL string from HTML when we call for an SWF object.
Sounds great, but I how do I pass different arguments to several menu pages, when i have only one SWF object and therefore only one hard-coded place of data or value where i can pass the argument in string ?
Do I need to divide my flash object to as many swf's as i need buttons and links ?
Have a thumbnail image acting as a button - sitting on my HTML page.When the user clicks it, the button uses the POST method to send a specified variable.I think I can handle the variable from there using javascript - which will talk to my embedded swf.

I am trying to do the following: I have a project file open in CS4. It currently has a background image which is locked. I want to include a menu with links/sublinks on the left side, a corporate video in the middle and another video on the right. The menu on the left (links/sublinks) simultaneously controls the other two videos. If the user clicks the 'stop' link, both videos stop. I would also like to include a scrubber, to control the video (play, pause, rewind, mute).
I am trying to do this in pieces - first get the video imported and playing, then create scrubber/playcontrols, then incorporate second video, and finally add the menu (links/sublinks). I have created sites with Flash, but this project has me baffled. I have spent months on it. As an example - I am struggling just to import the first video. Do I embed it? It seems as though each time I import the video, it does something different. I was told to embed it into the timeline (each frame of video would be on its own frame in the Timeline). This would alleviate AV synch issues, and allow me to control everything at once.
I am having a nightmare using CSS to style HTML within a dynamic textfield in my flash doc. From what i now understand after much trial and error and reading online, CSS doesn't even work properly in flash even for the tags that it does understand (which are few and far between anyway). For some reason my layout is getting completely screwed up in certain scenarios (predominantly when there are images present too) when i hover over links (which are styled in an external CSS file). If i remove the external CSS styling (which only contains the following simple code):
a:link {text-decoration: none;}
a:active {text-decoration: none;}
a:visited {text-decoration: none;}[code]....
Then everything works fine (but no links are underlined as standard or on hover). Does anyone know of any way to style the links without using an external CSS file (all i want to do is have no underline as standard and then underline them on hover). As this is from user input into a text editor I cannot place these links manually on the page in flash as they could be anywhere, I need a way of parsing the HTML and then displaying it accordingly.

I am building a website through flash. For the past couple of weeks all of the links have been working fine up until now. I have no idea what I could have possibly done to make this happen. In HTML none of the links work. They are all linked up fine, I even re-linked some of them. Nothing happens. The buttons do nothing.

The .swf needs to be able to grab image files from a directory hosted on the server
The .swf file needs to be able to change the URL

Using Flash CS3 and created a navbar with AS 3. All links work fine to open html pages, but I'm having trouble targeting the pages to a specific frame.
I've checked and re-checked code in my actions layer and in my html pages.
Code for AS 3 is "navigateToURL(galleries, "_content");" "Galleries" is the variable for the URLRequest and "content" is the name of the target frame in the Index page. All files are local on my computer and the paths are correct.
We have a Flash swf object embedded in an html page. When the user sees the page it's just a small button, but on the rollover state the area of the object expands and covers more of the page. This is how it was designed. The problem seems to be that the maximum size of the swf object, even though it's transparent and "invisible" unless the user rolls over the button, blocks out all the underlying html so you can't access any of the links. It's as if the object is covering that part of the page even when it's not expanded. I've tried every publish setting I can imagine to compensate and make the item truly transparent so the "hidden" underlying links will still be clickable, but just can't get it.
View 1 RepliesI have a presentation that I created for a client. The presentation is supposed to work locally on anyone's computer. It works perfect on mine. On the client's three computers, 2 pc and 1 mac the links inside flash do not work. I have a text field with text and a simple link inside like [URL] and it's going to a blank window. These won't even pop up a window for my client on any computer, why? He has the lastest Flash players and we created an html link below the flash movie in the html page just to make sure he could launch a popup that way and the html link below the flash movie worked fine.

Is there any way to create links inside large textfields without setting the textfield as an HTML textfield? I don't want to set the link to all the text in the textfield, only to some words in the text.
