i have this code and i want to remove baresClip but i cante removeit please helpme

My parent class adds bonus_mc It then adds an event listener to bonus_mc to listen for a custom event When the custom event is dispatched I want the parent_mc to remove event.target. But it wont, it's says 1118: Implicit coercion of a value with static type Object to a possibly unrelated type flash.display: DisplayObject.
View 3 RepliesI have a movieclip named button1 that contains a dynamic text named txt in it.My problem is that if i try
if(event.target==button1)
{
}
[code]....
I am trying to define a new MovieClip variable and assign it the value of event.target in the function. I keep getting this error "1118: Implicit coercion of a value with static type Object to a possibly unrelated type flash.display:MovieClip."
import fl.transitions.Tween;
import fl.transitions.easing.*;
var p:Number = 0;
var scale_factor:Number = 0.4;
var tween_duration:Number = 0.6;

Is it possible to access the type of object being interacted with so I can create a new instance of the same object? So for example in the code below I have the movieclip myItem. After it's clicked it is removed from stage and then moved to the inventory. When I click on it there, is it possible to create a new instance of mcItemToDuplicate using the event information parameters? (while allowing myItem to be where it is).
My code looks something like this:
public function moveclip() {
var myItem:mcItemToDuplicate = new mcItemToDuplicate();
stage.addChild(myItem);

I'm trying to remove a onRelease event for a movieclip of mine. The action is defined in the movie's class file like so:
Code:
private function onRelease():Void {
delete this.onRelease;
trace ("test");
}
Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be removing the onRelease events, and whenever I click on the button it traces "test". Is there some other way to remove onRelease events when they are applied through a class? When I use the above method out of the class definition all is fine, like this:
Code:
secaoMap_mc.onRelease = function () {
delete this.onRelease;
trace ("teste");
}
I have ActionScript inside a movie clip running a scrollbar.[code]...
I need to remove the Stage Event Listener (stage.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, thumbUp)) when I switch menu items. How can I call the removeEventListener for the stage from outside the movieclip?
The parent movieclip is called about_mc and when you click away to another page it tweens out. I really just want to about_mc.stage.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, thumbUp).
In the code below, I have created an instance of the DrawLineChart class called LineChart1.When I test the movie, it shows up on the stage just fine and when I click on it, I can use a trace command to get a string statement written to the output window. However, now I want to be able to click on LineChart1 on the stage and have it be removed. When I do that, I get an error message 1120: Access of undefined property LineChart1.
why I'm unable to refer to my instance LineChart1 and what I need to do so that I can refer to it and remove it when it gets clicked? why the trace statement works when I click on LineChart1 during runtime, but not the removechild command.
package{
import flash.display.*;
import flash.events.*;[code]....
trace("hello"); // This works. When I click on the LineChart1 MovieClip on the stage during runtime, I get "hello" as an output. removeChild(LineChart1); // throws an error 1120: Access of undefined property LineChart1.
I have created event listeners for a particular movieclip.Insidet this movieclip there is so many objects.When ever I click on the parent movieclip the event listener calls the function for the child object. I had tried removeEventLIstener()
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
var info:MovieClip=new MovieClip();
info.graphics.beginFill(0x000000,0.35);

I want to delete mc's parent
How to remove a loader and its content using removeChild or any other way, I had removed the loader but its content still playing in the background i know that from the sound of the content.this is the my code for removing:
removeChild(getChildByName("SampleLoader"));
its a simple 6 thumbnail gallery with coded tweens. Once a thumbnail is clicked then its attached larger image is meant to display on the screen, this seems to only work after the first click of a thumbnail once the image appears then is clicked it dissapears, and this function only used to work once but now it only works twice, exept the second time around the larger image cannot be removed from the stage, could it be a swapDepths issue?here is my code, i have only fully coded the first thumbnail top left. find attached my swf for the file,
stop();
import mx.transitions.Tween;
import mx.transitions.easing.*;

how can i access event.target outside event listener method.say for example
my_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onC);
function onC(e:MouseEvent):void
{
var m:MovieClip = e.target as MovieClip;
}
trace(m.totalframes);/// not working
now what if i want to get totalframe property of m instance, in short for every movieClip clicked.
I have these buttons in a movie clip and I would like to have only one event listener for the parent, using event.target to point to the children. I have also tried event.currentTarget, and it didn't work.here is the code that works:
test01.abtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, mouseHandler);
test01.bbtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, mouseHandler);
test01.cbtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, mouseHandler);[code]....
It is only targeting the movie clip, not the buttons inside the movie clip.
i'm new to AS3. Couldn't understand what some of the explanations out there are getting at, so i decided to post it here. In the code example below, what does event.target & event.currentTarget point to?

I have a Flex 4 List component which I have tied a click event to. In my event, my assignment of the source file paths works just fine --> my larger image displays just fine when a thumbnail click happens. My problem comes when trying to attach elements of the dataProvider to text inputs on another panel. Actionscript is throwing an error. Can someone point me in the right direction??

i have these 2 functions and both are the same:
as you can see disabledAction receives e.target as a paremeter from another function (click function actually).
is there a way to somehow call disabledAction from rollOverHandler ? (so that the code doesnt repeat)
Code:
function disabledAction(target:MovieClip):void {
var txt:TextField = Finder.findTextfield( target as MovieClip ) as TextField;
if (txt) {
[Code].....
Quick question, what's the different between these:
[Code]...
I get the basic concept, you're targeting the object that you want to use from the listener in the function. But when do you use which?
qi have a movieclip which is added to the stage:
var profileholder:profileHolder=new profileHolder ;
inside of profileholder is another movieclip(infoBtn) that acts as a button.when the mouse is over profileholder i want to do something with infoBtn like:
//profOver is the over state of profileholder
function profOver(e:Event) {
e.target.infoBtn.alpha=1;
}
this doesn't work and brings up this error:ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property infoBtn not found on flash.display.Loader and there is no default value.
at main_fla::MainTimeline/profOver()
i also tried:
function profOver(e:Event) {
var item:profileHolder=e.target as profileHolder;
item.infoBtn.alpha=1;
}
and get this error:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
I have several mc:s that can be dropped on a target (a mc called hits). If one mc is dropped on the target and another mc already is in the target I want the earlier mc to be removed. How can i know if there already is a mc in the target if i drop another mc there. Taco wrote "You could try setting up a boolean status variable and condition the dragging/dropping of a mc in that area to the variable being false. In other words, you set the variable status to false to start with, and once a first mc as been dragged/dropped in the area, set it to true. On the next dragging/dropping, if the status variable is true, you remove the previous mc, and permit the dropping of the new mc." But I dont understand how to do this, i may have many different mc:s in the target. The attashed file is a bit of my real fla, I hope someone understand what I mean.
View 3 Repliesstraight into the code - mps is a OSMF video instance - when it has finished playing through the TimeEvent - I can remove its listener but not remove it from the stage - why is this not working!?
Code:
mps.addEventListener(TimeEvent.COMPLETE,removeVideo);
function removeVideo(t:TimeEvent):void

I've set up an event listener to check if an image has been loaded. If yes, then change the width and height of it. I achieved this by using .target.loader.content. It works fine on my machine, but things are different, when I upload the swf to the server. the images get loaded, but aren't resized as they were offline. What might be causing this? What changes should I do in the snippet to get it working.This is the function that is called using the eventListenerfunction setImage(evt:Event){ sig_txt.text =evt.currentTarget.content.toString(); var loader:Bitmap = evt.target.loader.content as Bitmap; gallery_mc.addChild(loader); var ratio:Number = loader.width / loader.height; loader.width = 100; loader.height = 100 / ratio; loader.y = total_height; total_height += loader.height + 20

I'm implementing a text display area inside an app that displays selected text when the user mouses over one of four elements. Rather than creating a handler function for each element, I would like to get the name of the instance that is calling the handler in order to implement a switch statement. I've tried two ways, but both aren't working:
//install event handlers
initialText.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, mouseOverHandler);
timeText.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, mouseOverHandler);
withdrawalText.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, mouseOverHandler);
[Code]....
Both of those return undefined for the variable name. However, in the debugger, I can trace the event values through currentTarget.name, and that shows the instance firing the handler function, whether it be withdrawalText, initialText or timeText. So how can I apply the name value to a variable in order to determine which text block to display?
I have a URLLoader and a Loader triggering the same function. If event.target is traced by this function it outputs [object URLLoader] or [object LoaderInfo].However, the if statements don't seem to know what the event is and won't output anything even though it traces fine in the first trace statment. What is going on here?
ActionScript Code:
xmlLoader.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, preLoader);
photoLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, preLoader);[code]............
Now, when I click on the button in the area where the movieclip is it will register this movieclip as event.target. I would like to make the button the event.target regardless where I click and prevent flash from registering the movieclip inside the button as the target.
View 3 RepliesI searched the forum first to find similarities but I couldn't find one. Sorry if this is a double however. If you try to compare a widget's instance through "event.target" after it has raised a "focusOut" event, then you won't get the actual instance.
[Code]....
The logic of the code is as follows (pseudo):
function X {
switch
1) tween1 -> on tween finish launch onTweenFinish();
2) tween2 -> on tween finish launch onTweenFinish();
[Code]....
results in: ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property name not found on fl.transitions.Tween and there is no default value.
What I want is to process all three tweens in a single function, but I need to know which tween it was. It is of course possible to make three separate functions, one for each tween, but that is just not proper.
Is it possible to simulate the event TARGET ?
dispatchEvent(new Event("doSomething"));
I want to simulate a click on a specific item of my menu.
i add eventlistener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER) to some movieclip. but when i write: addChild(event.target) it doesnt work.
More info: i have several rectangles on the stage. when movie starts, they all get alpha 0.3, when you mouse over any of them they get alpha 1 with tween. But i made it so that, rectangles are located over the each other. and i want to make it so, that when you mouse over any rectangle it comes to front, but it doesnt work with addChild(event.target).To try it at your own, just create 3 different sized boxes and give then instance names: square_mc, square2_mc, square3_mc and copy+paste this code.
[Code]...
I am searching for a way to use one eventlistener with multiple buttons that bassically behave the same way.It works with event.target.(any movieclip property here, e.g. alpha).
