Flash :: Creating An Instance Of A Movieclip With Event.target Information?

Jul 6, 2010

Is it possible to access the type of object being interacted with so I can create a new instance of the same object? So for example in the code below I have the movieclip myItem. After it's clicked it is removed from stage and then moved to the inventory. When I click on it there, is it possible to create a new instance of mcItemToDuplicate using the event information parameters? (while allowing myItem to be where it is).

My code looks something like this:

public function moveclip() {
var myItem:mcItemToDuplicate = new mcItemToDuplicate();
stage.addChild(myItem);

[Code]....

ActionScript 3.0 :: Take The Value Of Event.target.name For Instance "SW5005_mc"?

Oct 29, 2009

Is it possible to take "event.target.name" value which in my case would be something like "SW5005_mc" and change that value.I use that value right now to tell another clip to gotoAndStop(event.target.name); which I have frames labeled the same as the event. target. name.I would like to take the value of event.target.name for instance "SW5005_mc" and remove the "_mc" and put a dash in between the "SW" and the "5005"to get "SW-5005" which then I would pass into a text field.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Objects - XML - Creating A New Instance Of An Object That Uses An Identical Name To An Older Instance Delete The Previous Instance?

Mar 20, 2009

Does creating a new instance of an Object that uses an identical name to an older instance, delete the previous instance? Or should the original instance be deleted first? The code uses a ridiculous amount of XML vars. Isn't it less memory intensive to parse the XML and save the properties to an Object, and then delete the XML Object, rather than keep the XML Object around and reference it's child nodes directly? Is it better form to break up a huge XML file (>600lines/3200vars) into smaller chunks?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating An Instance Of A MovieClip Without A Custom Class?

I would like to make a new instance of a MovieClip within my library from code written in my keyframe. I relise that you can do this by making a class and using the codeCode:var instancename:movieclipname = new movieclipname(); and with the MovieClips class I would need to extend MovieClip and nothing else. I am unsure if you put in the name of the MovieClip or the name of the MovieClip class in the code above so feel free to correct me. But instead of doing this can I just add a MovieClip to my stage with doing this

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Creating A Search For Information In A XML File?

Jun 17, 2010

I'm trying to figure out the best way to create a search box that searches an XML document and returns the results. So far I know how to do a search that returns exact matches but I want to make it so if someone typed in say "Manager" it would return results that Also had "Sales Manager" or "Account Manager".

Currently I have

PHP Code:

var  authorList:XMLList  =  xmlData.job.(title  == citySearch.text);

Which only works with exact results. What is the best way to get around this? Do I just need to bring in everything from the XML file and then compare it using .search()?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Determining Which Instance Of A Movieclip Activated The Event Handler

Jul 30, 2009

I've been searching this forum and googling for quite some time, and I haven't been able to come up with anything. Anyway, here's a description:I have an array that has multiple instances of the same movie clip. I add them to the stage and then add an eventListener to each one.I have that working fine. The problem is, I'd like to add a filter to them and remove an eventListener once the eventHandler has been activated. However, I have no way to know which instance set off the eventListener. Is there any way I can pass that information into the eventHandler function? Or is there any way I can access the parent from the evenHandler itself? [code]

Actionscript 3 :: Flash Pro Drop Target Instance During Authoring On Artboard

Sep 21, 2011

Developing custom components within Flash Professional CS5.5, I am attempting to implement functionality similar to the way a UIScrollBar can be dropped on a TextArea to bind functionally.Place a TextArea on the artboard.Drop a UIScrollBar on to the TextArea.The UIScrollBar will auto-position itself against the TextArea, and if instance names are not defined, the TextArea will receive a name such as 'InstanceName_0' and the UIScrollBar's scrollTargetName will set to match.For those familiar with Flashblocks Flash CMS, this functionality is replicated using their Editblock component. The Editblock can be dropped on a component, automatically position itself, and bind instance names.Following threads and examples, I see mostly historical implementations citing _targetInstanceName and scrollTarget.[code]

Is this a special property of "scrollTargetName", or can this functionality be implemented with different property names?Have I correctly implemented this functionality per Adobe's intention of authoring on the artboard?UPDATE 2012-01-05My remaining issue is getting the dropped component to position itself. Regardless of x and y positioning, the DisplayObject remains at 0x0 upper-left corner. I know this must be possible as a scroll-bar can change its position when dropped on a text area.

Actionscript 3 :: Flash - Event Target In XML Menu

Jan 13, 2011

I have a Image XML menu that works well, but with a litle problem with target in TweenMax. I will post only the code that is relevant to resolve the problem

I have a MC in library, and inside I have 3 movie clips, img_mc, bg_mc (this is a background for text) and title_mc (inside this mc I have a textfield named title-txt).

I create a for loop for the MC, and I use e.currentTarget in my tween animations.

When I hovered the title_mc is suposed to scale the background, but because bg_mc are in back of the text, the hover don't works. I do not know how to target the title_mc for on MOUSE:OVER scale the bg_mc.

[Code].....

This Last piece of code don't works because title_mc is over bg_mc.

If I put in event MC.container_mc.title_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, out_bg); the Text will scale too, and I don't want this...

test01.bbtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, mouseHandler);

I am building a simple tamagotchi - alike application in AS2 and Flash is acting kind of weird on me. Lets say i have a .fla file with all my animations called Kitty.fla, then I have an external .as file called Kitty.as which contains a Kitty class with the itty(attribut i need to give it) function.On the 1st frame on the timeline i have the following:var kitty:Kitty = new Kitty('my attribute');when compiling the movie, flash automatically creates an instance of Kitty but WITHOUT my attribute (its given a default value specified in the code) and then proceeds with the instance according to what i wrote above. So at the end i basically end up with two kitties, one with default attribute and second with the attribute specified by me, while I only need the one with the specified attrribute

ActionScript 2.0 :: Create Rows Of Information In Flash Using CreateTextField In A Dynamically Attached Movieclip?

Jun 19, 2006

I'm trying to create rows of information in Flash using createTextField in a dynamically attached movieclip. I have the autoSize property set to "center" to account for varying lengths of text. However when I try to obtain the height of the current textbox so I can set the _y property of my next record, Flash doesn't seem to be recognizing the autoSize property and returns the same height for each record.

I added a second frame in the movieclip I'm attaching with a "trace(this._height)"... The correct height property is shown.

how I can get the height property right away after creating the textbox?
