ActionScript 3.0 :: SWF Loading Bug In Firefox?
Jul 27, 2009
I have a swf that loads an external main swf (contains all other site functions). When I run the html file containing the swf in firefox, the progress bar in the status bar is showing that it isn't finished loading. The loading cursor also flickers. This only happens in firefox. It's as though it still thinks there's more to load.

I load images from an XML file and sometimes everything would load up just fine, but there are times when flash would stop loading in the middle of my my list...
[URL]
On firefox, all items usually would load up all the time but there are occassions where it would only load 3 out of 8 or some anywhere before it's suppose to finish. If you keep hitting refresh on the link i posted, you'll see. its even worse on safari since it would seldom load the whole thing... never had a problem with IE though.
here is the code im working on
Code:
var productHolder:MovieClip = productHolder_mc;
var bannerHolder:MovieClip = bannerHolder_mc;
var paginationHolder:MovieClip = paginationHolder_mc;
var whatIsaLoading:String = "";

I have a video player (just an out of the box flvplayer) where I pass in the video files using flashvars. I'm using swfobject to load the swf and pass in the video file. All standard code, nothing fancy or custom. This works perfectly in all browsers on both mac and pc... except recent versions of Firefox on the PC. On recent FF/PC machines the player loads but the video doesn't.

With selenium I'm currently automating tests for a website having flash elements for user inputs. While everything works fine when executing these tests on my computer locally, it fails to load the embeded flash if I start selenium on a remote Windows XP machine.
However, the flash just loads fine if I start the tests while I'm logged in via remote desktop.
This leads me to the assumption that whithout any desktop environment loaded or user logged in the firefox window is treated just as though it was minimized or the current tab was inactive, which I know prevents flash from loading until that window/tab is activated.if there is a way to enable firefox to load flash even if it's not currently displayed in an active window?

Weirdness today while trying to get Flash to load some external content (PHP, XML and images). It works fine in everything except Firefox on a PC (Even in IE! What a world! But I digress...). I've got a SWF that loads an external PHP file, along with an external XML file, which in turn references external images to be loaded. When I look at the Net panel in Firebug, it's showing that the SWF is loading, but none of the other external files are getting pulled. Anybody know why? If you want to check it out, the page is here: [URL] I'm also using SWFObject

I have reviewed my code several times and maybe I am missing something.Basically,I have a separate loader class that I want to communicate to a php file located in the same directory.That php file forms an xml markup within and returns the location of a background image from the database. As you can see from the code, I have event listeners for progress, loaded, and IOerror.This works fine in IE and Chrome. However in FF and Opera, my custom progress bar shows 100%, but the info bar shows "IO Error" (which is kind of a visible trace statement on the swf for informational purposes) and it does not go anywhere. Stuck.
This is the swf's location: [url]....

I have a photo gallery that is XML based. In IE everything works fine. In Firefox, the gallery will load all the thumbnails and then hang up when loading the large image. The trouble is this only happens on the galleries that have a lot of images in them. It works fine with smaller galleries. Since it's xml driven, the images are not loaded until called for and all the thumbnails get loaded. I did see a post about a var being collected for garbage if it's defined inside a function, but I've tried to limit that to just declaring a new image to be displayed. My site is: [URL]. If for some reason you get a page saying that this site is under construction, click the link to the gallery again. I don't know why that keeps bringing up an old page.

I've spent about a day on this... Publishing a swf for AS3/FP9, following the example in the ActionScript 3 documentation to get two-way communication between a SWF and javascript. Works great in IE.
I've sifted through what seems like a million posts on the subject, with people getting the same result... the function I/they are attempting to call doesn't exist.
In the documentation example, there's a function to find/return either the SWF as an object or embed tag depending on which browser you're viewing the page in.

I finished my website and uploaded to internet. And when I showed friends that use IE7, CHROME or any other browser besides FIREFOX it failed to work. The SWF gets stuck at the preloader at a certain percentage but the animation of the preloader still runs. Here is the link (try to watch from different browsers): [URL]..

I'm having issues with a flash animation that I made displaying correctly in Firefox 3 on Windows Vista. It only shows up incorrectly on this browser. It works fine in Firefox 2 and 3 on Windows XP, Safari and Firefox 3 on Mac, and Internet explorer 6 and 7 on XP and Vista.
Does anyone have any information on Firefox 3 and windows Vista in relation to bugs with flash animations?

I have uploaded a swf but when viewed in Firefox, the swf does not work. However, the swf does work in IE.
I used Flash MX 2004 to export the swf.
Anyway, my firefox can view other websites with flash properly so the problem is definitely with my swf.
here's my html if it helps:
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<title>My Website</title>
<style type="text/css">

I have a problem in presenting Flash objects in Firefox. The code below works fine in IE, but not in Firefox.
[Code].....
The page is loaded with Flash player 9 in Firefox 3.5.5 for Windows XP. note that we can't afford to have the wmode value other than 'window.'Actually the phenomenon occurs only with the 'window' wmode.You can change the 'movie' value to whatever you want.
When the page is first loaded in Firefox, it looks normal (or not).But when you move the mouse over the video clips or play them,they start stepping on each other's toes:
The images are overlapped,and the intersection of the screen keeps flickering.
We played with this and that attributes or parameters,put the clips in <iframe>s,but none of them succeeded.
PS: I'm not sure whether it is Firefox or Flash that's causing this.If this is not the right place for a question like this, I offer my apology.

By default Firefox opens urls set to 'new window' in a new firefox tab instead. Is there any way to force Firefox to open a new window?This doesn't work in Firefox: it opens a new tab window instead of a real new window. How can I make Firefox open a new window? Without the popup blocker blocking it?

Trying to recode map program to utilise modest map rather than original hand made map routines. Finished up yesterday and had squashed bugs pretty much(annoying flicker issue but that didn't appear on another web browser I figure it's flash/browser related issue). Then I realised I need to try this in IE as well. And it doesn't work. Map loads up so modest map code is working. What is NOT working is everything else. It's supposed to track locations and draw arrows to their positions.
It doesn't go to where it's supposed to initially. No arrows are drawn. No control buttons from HTML side work. Nothing. Zip. I have suspicion it could be the ExternalInterface which works differently on firefox and IE. Could that be reason? If so how does one go detecting what browser I am using and how does one need to take that into account? Or is there something else that's different between IE and firefox I need to take into account?
IE itself only gives rather mystified error message.

I made a webapp where I need html content to popup on top of the swf objects I have. I ended up using the swfobject setting wmode: "transparent" which works fine in all browsers (Chrome, safari, IE) except firefox. In firefox I can't click the flash buttons, i tried to remove wmode=transparent and, of course, I can click any button I need (all browsers)... but this way I can't put my html content on top...
