I am loading in .swfs, that were exported from InDesign, using the page turn effect, into another swf that contains navigation. Would anyone know how I can make calls into the loaded swfs to trigger them to go to the next page, or report back how many pages the swfs contain? I can't seem to find any documentation on this?
View 7 RepliesHas anyone tried to open a .fla file exported out of InDesign CS5 to change the Flash Player setting to 9, rather than 10, then resave (or publish) as a .swf file?
If so, how did you get it work work again? What did you do to maintain the programming?
When I publish the file as .swf out of Flash CS5, then upload it to a remote server or view it in a browser window, everything has gone wacky--text is larger in scale than in the original file and the animations (fade in and slide in) on the first page, which I can't get past, run in a continuous loop.
I am looking for a "page turn effect" tutorial. I have seen it around on the web. Do they use flash or is that a swish effect?

View 1 RepliesI am trying to make a simple Paper page curl effect in Flash. It is animated, but does not need to be draggable. I am NOT looking for a digital magazine type draggable page turn. Just an animated one. I tried using the 3D component in Flash, but got a vey stiff result. I couldn't get the animation to bend, or warp the page. So it looked very flat and stiff. I would like a fairly natural page flip. Something that bends as it turns. There is a plugin in After Effects calle "Page Curl" and that is the basic effect I am looking for, but am trying to recreate it in Flash.

View 1 RepliesI have an invisible movie clip I want to go to the NEXT page, as it goes to that page, I want it to essentially remove itself (page1.swf). e.g. page1.swf (contains fancy.swf - [AS2], 4 images, several invisible MCs with code) has an invisible MC + on click = remove page1.swf.
To be clear, this does work. It goes to page2.swf and page2.swf goes to page1.swf as it should. The issue is that if the user repeatedly does this (just 2 or 3 times) the fancy.swf becomes impossible to control and Flash (CS5) crashes. I think this is due to the fact it's not unloading the entire thing, it's only unloading fancy.swf on click (I hope). So underneath page2.swf is page1.swf, and when the user clicks back to page1.swf, page2.swf AND page1.swf are underneath that, and so on and so forth.

I have created what looks like a book in flash.There is a corner turned over at the top right so when you click it the page turns. This is fine, however, what i want to beable to do is when I click it the page turns and goes to a new page. ( i have made all the other pages)I tried an on(release) but it just doesnt go to the page, it plays the movie clip but I cant get it to navigate aswell..
View 14 RepliesI am working on some dress pattern design tutorials. I would like to show patterns and fabric pieces flip over with a page turn type animation. I am looking for a simple method as it involves doing it to a lot of diagrams. I have been looking at After Effects as I know I can 'page turn' objects. This pretty well produces the effect I am looking for but I feel it should be easier in Flash (Shape tweening morphs the diagram and motion tweening doesn't help) or perhaps video in Photoshop. I don't mind what I use.
My patterns are drawn in Illustrator so importing them would be really convenient. Ideally I would like to fill the shapes with a textile pattern and have the reverse showing with a different texture but this is not essential - just getting the diagrams to turn over smoothly would be really nice.
I have even thought of screen recording the process of dragging the corner of the diagram and flipping it over in some way.
I am happy to experiment but if anyone can point me to the best way forward I would be very grateful. There is nothing worse than spending hours/days working on a way to do things only to find there is a preset somewhere that does it for you.
I am into the process of creating a Digital Scrap book(Interactive) with Action script. I have four QT movie files created with After Effects. I simply want to make an Interactive scrap book for the school children so that when they click a button(or even Text) on the Home page, that page turns and plays the corresponding video. Once the video is finished it goes back again to the Home page.

I have made an page-flip thing and now I want to add a script that turn the page in the right direction. Ex.If I reading page 9 and want to jump to 10 then Im playing a "turnpagefromtheright"- movie clip. But if I reading page 10 and want to go to page 7 then I want the movie to play a "turnpagefromtheleft"- movie clip.
So I need to compare the current page number with the page number Im going to and if that number is less than the current number I play 1 Mc and if its higher it plays another Mc.
So this is what I want but I dont know how to code it... since Im not as good as you are..

View 7 RepliesI have successfully added a Google Map Flash API using AS3 to page turning software that I use but the issue is when I upload it to the server online the Google Map stops all other swf files from working within the book when I turn a page. The map works fine online but removes two pages either side of where the map is placed. Anybody know why this is happening and any solution on how to get it working? Everything within the page turning software works fine when I test it locally so the issue is online somewhere. Maybe I could use something that stops the map from working when the page is changed?

I have set up a site I am building...real basic I know.rolling text boxes).So Here's my question...when you use the load movie command...in this case, I am using buttons on my main nav (level 0) to fire the load movie command for subpage swfs located on level 1...is there a script that I can write that would make the level 1 swf fade (dissolve) on using the _alpha command instead of just appearing (from thin air...like a cut in videospeak)???. Is there a way to create a similar transition for unloading the swf as well?

As you should be able to see, it seems as though the Flash file on the left is causing the one on the right to reload upon final loading. The one on the right will reload itself once the one on the left finishes loading.
I have tested the flash files by themselves and both load only once when loaded by themselves. It seems as though one is causing the other to re-load which is just mind boggling to me.
I'll start off by saying I'm a newbie, just putting that out there. How do you make a turn by turn multiplayer flash game? I don't know if an engine is made in AS3, PHP, Javascript, or whatever,I made my game already, it's just that it isn'tmultiplayer yet. Basically, there are lines, and each player crosses out a number of lines, and the last player to cross out a line is the loser. I want it where one user crosses out some lines, then presses End Turn, then the other does their turn and then presses End Turn to allow the other player to move his cursor. But how can I get both players to see the same frame and only have one player have the ability to move the cursor during a turn? Is there some easily adaptable multiplayer engine for flash for newbies out there

Basically I created a simple mp3 player, and there are multiple copies of that embedded in a page. Now when I play one, I want all the others to pause.. is it possible to do n-way localconnection? or is there a better alternative?
View 3 RepliesI am trying to make a web page that has multiple of the same SWF on it. I am having a problem with it being stupidly slow loading (download time is fine though). I have a 4x4 table in each cell there is a swf file embedded in an iframe. (Note: 4 X 4 table => 16 SWFS).

Is there a good way to embed multiple identical swfs into a web page? Why are IE and Firefox struggling so poorly? I suspect it has to do with the fact that both IE and Firefox each only have one thread to run plugins (Flash) in. I have a similar app written in AS2 (not written by me, I just have the swf file). It is much more complex but it loads orders of magnitude faster in IE and FF. Is there a reason that AS3 pins the browser when AS2 does not? How can I embed multiple AS3 swfs into FF & IE 7 without pinning the browser? Is there a way to make an application that is more light weight?
I basically have multiple identical swfs on a html page, each containing an mp3. I need it so that when you play one.. it stops any others that are playing, to prevent the audio from overlapping and creating a mess.
I've tried using 'local Connection' which almost worked.. but just didn't seem to be well suited to this sort of thing.
I basically need to set up an interface in an html page with 3 different swfs in different spots of a table that need to communicate with eachother (basic stuff like going to certain frames within the targeted swf when a button is pressed, etc).
I'm pretty sure i've seen it done, but i can't seem to figure out what kind of approach i need to take. I'm guessing its going to take some javascript, but i'm not sure.
I have tried this and it doesn't seem to work. In the example below the movie on the right (boy in the hat) is embedded using this procedure but the two on the left (paws moving on order button and dog animation) had to be installed using Dreamweaver's swf installation methodology. and, consequently the dog animation does not show up in Explorer 8 and some other browsers.

As I am getting more familiar with FMS and understanding it better with the help of the wonderful contributors here on this forum, I am now curious about players.Players such as Strobe and REOPS to be specific.Are players all SWFs that are embedded in a page? I have seen some players here on the Adobe website that are stand-alone smaller windows that appear over the page. How is this done?So Strobe and REOPS...are we talking SWF code that is editable? You can see I am quite new to this. I'm on a roll, however and wish to continue understanding and learning.

Need to place multiple SWFs in a single HTML page and was wondering if there was some way to send commands from one of the movies to the other wihtout reloading the page. (would prefer not to reload the page and all the components and have the page "blink" - go blank before loading new and cached data) Unfortunately cannot build this as a single flash object with multiple MCs.. must be multiple SWFs.
Have an idea or two on how to set this up with HTML framesets and loading subpages ( a cheat certainly and far less than elegant) but would prefer not to deal with the heartache that would entail - especially since areas of the page would still "blink" on loading.
