take a string like "5050 XO slider" and separate it into "5050" and "XO slider" for the XML Parser?
View 3 RepliesWhat I am after, is taking a string, then taking each character in that string and making it a variable, then displaying each character by itself. My problem is figuring that out. I thought I would try using a for loop and creating each character variable like that, but it doesn't work. I doesn't display anything. Here is my code so far, it seems like the closest thing I've gotten to:
for (var i:Number=1; i<=myString.length; i++) var letNum:String = myString.charAt(i); var let:String = letNum;
}

I have a string that is sent from PHP to Flash. When I Trace the string in flash, it prints the followings:
First Name: Mickey
Last Name: M
Designation: Mouse
[Code]....
I have a string variable that looks something like this:
2012-03-07 135.06 135.91 134.93 135.69 143616800 135.69
2012-03-06 135.35 135.43 134.36 134.75 202129900 134.75
It continues like this, a list of reoccurring variables seperated by spaces, for a few more lines.How can I separate the string and push the different variables into their appropriate arrays. The end result should look like this:
dates = [2012-03-07, 2012-03-06]
variable1 = [135.06, 135.35]
variable2 = [135.91, 135.43]
well i have this string im receiving from an URL: "245500" All I need to do is separate all of the characters, so it would gimme back an array just like
PHP Code:
Array = ["2", "4", "5", "5", "0", "0"]
I've tried using .split(), but since it does not have an index (like a comma or dot), it won't do..
So, I have an application where flash receives this string:'mp3, pdf, doc'using .split(), i managed to separate the values in an array.I need to add a "*." on each item of the array. i used for, but the result is always the last one. How do i manage to add the "*." string on all items of an array and display them on a dynamic textfield?[code]
View 12 RepliesI have an array of objects which uses a delimited string as the keys. When examined in the FB4 debugger, the keys look like this:[code]The first two items are numeric (cast to string) but the third item in the multi-part delimited key is naturally a string -- it's like an alphanumeric library shelf reference. As expected, when you click on the [+] icon in the debugger, you can view the object associated with that string key. So far so good.The debugger shows the keys in the (pre-sorted) order in which they were added to the array. However, when iterating the object array so:[code]the keys are returned in some other order --internal hash? My question is, how does the debugger know the order the keys were added in, and can I access that knowledge at runtime when iterating the array? I want to iterate the objects in the order in which they were added. Or do I need to maintain my own index of these keys showing the order they were added to the associative array?
View 1 RepliesWhat I need to do is assign 5 separate dynamic text fields to 5 seperate buttons and at the same time to those same five buttons i would like to add 5 images that i would be able to change merely by swapping out the images in the file theyre in on the server.I would also like to get a nice transition between the images...ALSO i want to dynamically load the images for the buttons that will be used for switching from picture to picture(which im thinking i will be able to do after i know the how to do point the aforementioned things.)
Through tutorials I've found around the net I've been able to get most of the parts together... but i get lost because what they show you for AS2 they don't for AS3 and vice versa, at least that ive seen.so... I guess my question is... would i need to set up 5 seperate dynamic text fields on the stage and then set each one of them to one of the corresponding button. If so what AS code would i need to use to do so. And if not what would i need to do?
The other part of the question would be I know about the UILoader... would i be able to use it as my buttons and images, if so would i need 5 seperate ui loaders for both the Thumbnail buttons and the images or is there a way that would be better to do it? and once i do that would i do the transitions using frames and tweens like with AS2?
If I create a new flash AS3 file and create two blank keyframes in my actions layer I can add actions to each keyframe separately no problem. I can then easily switch between the actions frames from the menu bar on the left of the actions input panel. However if I try and do this on any of my projects i've been working on for a while when I create a new blank keyframe in the actions layer and try to add actions to it, I get sent straight back to my first actions keyframe and not a nice blank page. Can I even apply seperate actions to seperate keyframes?
View 6 RepliesThis is NOT the same as my last thread as i am after three and NOT ONE as last time. In the attached movie there are three seperate movies loading into three seperate tweens. Please note that i am happy with this movie as it is, and do not want to change anything about it except for the script itself. It refurs to three seperate clips "b.a","d.c" and "f.e". What i want is for the script to incorperate all three clips under one name of "mc" And instead of have three seperate widths, "width 1","width2" and "width3" i want the script to also incorperate all three widths and heights into just one name of "width" and one name of "height".
View 9 RepliesI have a project underway where I am making an interactive game. It is a personal character creator game and I need Actionscript 3 help with this.Something similar here:http:[url]....
I have tried already with toggling visibility and 'gotoAndStop()' to make items appear over other items when the corresponding button is pressed, for example, when the user tries out different pants/shirts on their character.
I would like to use the selectionMode=multiple described in the Flex docs, but with a few modifications:
1) I would like the box that the user drags over the graph to remain there until the user drags a new one.
2) In the top right corner of the box I want to display the sum of the items selected by that box.
How to make list items as tool tips for combo box items?
View 2 RepliesI'm creating a facebook application in flex. I'm actually working on the friends component that shows your friends who are using the application. now, each friend has a profile image.
I created the component using a s:List element.
In the Skin Class of the element i configured the requestedColumnCount to 3, which means it shows 3 friends. i added buttons to scroll left and right in the list.
Whenever I scroll to see a different friend, for a half of a second i see no image because the List component is loading the image in order to view it.
is there a way to make the list preload all the elements so i won't have this kind of problem ?
im having some dificulties in the combobox of Flex 3, after defining the dataProvider and filling the combobox, how can i remove the items in the combobox later (without removing items in the dataprovider)? if i set the provider to "" or null, the items in the combobox are still there
View 1 Replieshow to get my CollectionEvent to work, and I seem to be able to see the problem, but I am not sure how to get it to work properly.
In my actionscript, it seems to only tell that event.items.length is 1, while I am calling my array collection from the HTTPService, and I have tested the length of my Array Collection, which seems to be accurate. What I tried to do is to use that number in the CollectionEvent function, but that does not work at all.
Attach Code
private function onChange(event:CollectionEvent):void{
for (var i:int=0; i< event.items.length; i++) {
Alert.show(event.items.length.toString()); //This always gives me 1 when I have 12 items

I have placed TextFileds inside TileList Compontent. When i try to select the TextField it can't show the selected Textfield in the TileList items by default the TileList items are selected.Finally i need to select the TextFields.
Here is my code:

function TileListExample() { var dp:DataProvider = new DataProvider(); var totalEntries:uint = 3; var i:uint; for(i=0; i<totalEntries; i++) { dp.addItem( { source:getTf(), scaleContent:false}

In Actionscript and Adobe Flex, I'm using a pattern and regexp (with the global flag) with the string.match method and it works how I'd like except when the match returns multiple occurrences of the same word in the text. In that case, all the matches for that word point only to the index for the first occurrence of that word. For example, if the text is "cat dog cat cat cow" and the pattern is a search for cat*, the match method returns an array of three occurrences of "cat", however, they all point to only the index of the first occurrence of cat when i use indexOf on a loop through the array. I'm assuming this is just how the string.match method is. I want to find the specific indices of every occurrence of a match, even if it is of a word that was already previously matched.

But I keep getting an "Error #2030: End of file was encountered." This is (probably) because the class I'm serializing is too big for the "String" object type in AS3. Is there a limitless object for storing an array of characters (or better yet binary), or am I going to have to make my own class? (like one with an array of strings)
I am trying to include double quotes in a string but logic says it would just close the string. I know in html you would use something like ". In flash...I havent the slightest.Anyone know how to go about this?
View 1 RepliesI have a String variable in my flex (flash builder 4) application containing CSV data. I need to allow the user to download this data to a local file. For example, giving them a "csv" button to click and it might present them with a save file dialog (and I would be sending the contents of my string variable).Is this possible / how ?I am using the ResuableFX component for the datagrid to csv. This the code I ended up with that works to save the string to a text file for the user (in a web browser):
var dg2CSV:DataGrid2CSV = new DataGrid2CSV();
dg2CSV.includeHeader=true;
dg2CSV.target=adgEncounters;

I really don't understand why this won't work? I've made a test which sends some POST data to a script on my page which works fine.[code]
