ActionScript 3.0 :: Sprite Not Loading Onto Stage From Class File
Sep 21, 2011
For the life of me I can't work out why this script is not working: In the library are two movieclips: pink_sprite and green_sprite each of which has a attached class pinkSprite and greenSprite. These classes in turn are extenders of the hitTest.as class below.
I am loading thumbs from an xml file and placing them into one container (sprite), which i later use for scrolling based on mouse position with this formula:
I created a class, extended the sprite class, and now in the constructor I am trying to set the Sprite's width and height properties which are inherited from the DisplayObject. However, after I set this.width and this.height, and print the values, I get 0 for both.
What the heck is going on? When I view the livedocs I see that DisplayObject has width and height listed as public properties. I have been able to instantiate a Sprite directly, and set the width and height after it's been instantiated, so I don't get it.
package { import flash.display.*; public class ScrollBar extends Sprite {[code].....
I found myself loading a new XML file every day and so decided to create a small class that will load the xml file and return it.The class is loading the file but when i try to return it to a new xml object in the document class it doesnt load it.I think that it's something to with the return being in a nested function but i tried a few ways and non seems to work.
[DOCUMENT CLASS] loadXML:LoadXML = new LoadXML(); myXML:XML = new XML(loadXML.loadXMLFile("gallery.xml"));[code].....
I'm unable to load forces.swf (assume I can't edit it, as I don't have the source code) through an external swf, due to Stage reference in the base class how would I go about loading it (and any other possible SWF) without errors being thrown?
Here is a link to the problem I am trying to fix:[URL]..
I'm unable to load forces.swf (assume I can't edit it, as I don't have the source code) through an external swf, due to Stage reference in the base class.
How would I go about loading it (and any other possible SWF) without errors being thrown?
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at QuizApp/createStatusBox() at QuizApp()
That's the error message I get when it tries to play. What I have is an swf that loads another when its done, the new swf is blank but has a document class to an AS file. It seems the problem lies when a function is not properly being added to the stage.
The function is added like this.. Code: package{ public class QuizApp extends Sprite{ public function QuizApp(){ createButtons(); private function createButtons() { if (this.stage == null) { trace("STAGE IS NULL!!!"); } var yPosition:Number; addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, addedToStage); ...
I have all the time some problems but this is going to be really frustrating to me. I have bought one flash item from a website (3D image gallery for AS3) and I havenīt got it work still not yet.Iīm trying to load a .swf file called (Gallery3D.swf) and .xml file named (gallery.xml) onto stage. I have managed to do a code like this.[code]Still some errors appear on output window as I try to test the movie for example (FLASH CANNOT ACCESS A PROPERTY OF A NULL OBJECT)That code works fine itself on a browser but not on my website project I guess it needs to do some stipulations like if statement or Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE or Event.REMOVED_FROM_STAGE?
I am trying to make a "Achtung! die kurve" - like game in Actionscript 3.0. So far I've done the movement of one of the 'worms', and it works alright. I wanna divide it into different class files, but I can't seem to get it to work. I have a .fla file and 4 .as files. So far I only have code in two of these. When I put all my code directly into the fla file, it works perfectly fine, but when I put it into my player class, it won't 'add the child' to the stage. Here is my player .as file: [URL].
The reason why I commented the addChild, is because I wanna do this in my mainFile.as. This is from the main file: [URL]. I'm not quite sure how to call it in the main file, so I'm guessing that this would be the issue. All the files are named and placed correctly in the same folder, and flash says that each of my .as files are targeting the .fla file, so this doesn't seem to be the issue. How I can change the speed of my sprite.
i have a BasicMap.as that takes an Array and populates itself with the MC objects passed to it by a String reference.it inherits from Sprite, and so it just places the objects on its self.then i have a class that inherits from that class, and gives a little more functionality to it, but in order for it to do that, it needs to place the objects not on itself, but instead inside a holder Sprite, so here is my problem:
I have a class called shapeC that only creates a rectangle and then addChild(rectangle);. That class is instantiated on the main timeline. Currently, the only way you can see that rectangle is to add the instantiated class to the stage via addChild(shapeC);. My question is, is there a way that the shapeC class can add the rectangle to the root stage without requireing the instantiated class to be added to the stage?
Does flash have an equivalent to Flex'sApplication.application.[insert application method or propertyI want to get access from an as3 class file to the mainstage. a call to this.root from the stage to the class will notwork because I need the root object stage to execute an addChild
I m loading an external swf file on main stage which has some links, I want if I click on any of these links the timeline of the main stage should chenge.
im trying to create a separate class so i can create a custom mouse. But i need to make it so that every time the mouse moves then something happens. as in it dissapers and after 5 seconds the timer resets. I have the code and it works in my .fla file, but im not sure its possible to put it in a class file and have it be the class of the .fla.
I have a dynamic textfield called neighName on my Flash stage. I also have a movieclip that I call a region on my stage. When I mouseover the region, I want a word to display in a little popup *and* I want some text to display in my textfield. I have an external .as file for handling the region. I can make the code "see" my region, but I can't seem to make it see my textfield, although no errors are being thrown.
I'd like to access the stage of the main timeline from w/i a class that extends a movieclip. Basically, I have a button in the main timeline that makes a HUD appear. The HUD is an extended MovieClip class. When people click on a button in the HUD, I'd like to remove the object from the stage of the main MovieClip.I think your confusion may come from the fact that I am running this code from a class definition file. Clicking on a button w/i this object should remove it from the DisplayList of the MainTimeline. Here's the code from the class definition file:
trace(e.currentTarget.parent.parent) gets me the MainTimeline, and trace(e.currentTarget.parent.parent.stage) appears to return the main stage, but I cannot use removeChild w/o getting an error that I am trying to coerce the stage to be a DisplayObject (which it ought to be).What's on the stage of the MainTimeline: A single button that, when clicked, adds an instance of the Answers class to the stage.
me only still learning as3, i've checked google there and back, but somehow i can't find the answer for this: how to target a movieclip instance which is already on the stage from within a class file? i mean, targeting it from the document class file is easy, but what is i want to target it from another class file?
I am loading an external .swf file onto my stage. This is the script I am using:
[Code]...
It loads everything great, but it lags so bad when it plays!!! Am I loading everything prperly? The external .swf file is just under 200 kb, but that should be ok, right? there is a way to prevent lagging. maybe a way to ask for more ram from the computer?
I am loading an external swf file/movieclip onto the main stage - it is a simple transition and once it has finished playing, I want to jump to a frame in the main stage.I've loaded the movieclip onto the stage, but don't know how to jump to another frame after it has played and stopped...what's needs to be added to this to goto a frame on the main stage........
My flash application has lots of resources which will change all the time. In order to keep the the user from having to download my main .swf file over and over again, and in order to keep the main file's size low, I would like to put the resources into separate .swf files and load them dynamically from a url using a Loader.
Once downloaded I would like to extract the classes that are in the resource swf and use them in the main swf. Can anyone share some code for doing this? Note that I am not just interested in using a symbol from the resource swf. I would like to use a class, with all of its methods and everything, and my main swf does not contain the class definition. Only the resource swf does.
I have been searching for information regarding the use of loading an external xml file from a variable (string) that contains the location of the item and passes it to the document class.
I receive the following error: Error: Error #2136: The SWF file file:///C|/Documents%20and%20Settings/xmikxm0/My%20Documents/workingDocuments/freelance/brightStar/webSiteStructure/core.swf contains invalid data. at BuildSiteElements/::frame1()[BuildSiteElements::frame1:2]
FLA code:
ActionScript Code: /* variables to load XML */ var BuildItems_obj:BuildSiteElements = new BuildSiteElements(); BuildItems_obj.loadSiteXML("templateBuild.xml");
[Code]....
fla is in same folder as class and the fla compiles the swf in another location (outside the folder and pulls xml from the xml folder).
I've been searching around all afternoon, and am pulling my hair out. 1) I have a movieclip instance on stage (simple graphical element that represents platforms for a hero to run and jump along). I have placed it on the stage with an external class engine.as and in this class it is called myPlatform and is an object of Platforms.as. The movieClip is called platforms and from a trace(myPlatform.name) the instance name is instance3.
2) I am attempting to access the properties of myPlatform in an Enterframe event loop in my character control and collision class (called hero.as)
Basically here is the bit of code I am trying implement within Hero.as :
[Code]...
This all worked when I was writing actionscipt within the FLA file, on the timeline frame 1. I simply don't know how to access myPlatform from within the external Hero.as class! Do I need to create a variable? Is there a really easy way to do this with some syntax/command that I have not learned yet?
i have 20 buttons, and i want to design an external file that holds the coordinates for each named button.how would i go about this, since the external file would be read as a string by flash?
I'm sure you're expecting me to have forgotten to use addChild. I wish it was that easy. I will say I'm very new to AS3.0. I have a movie clip in my library that contains a small PNG file and a text label. The linkage properties are: Class: shapes.HorizontalIcon, Base class: flash.display.Sprite.[code]As far as I can tell this should work. There are no errors. The trace statement above shows up in the output. The parent sprite is also an item from the library. It shows up on the stage. I tried adding a random TextField to the parent sprite it showed up on the stage just fine.Something isn't working right, but I don't know where to start debugging this.
ActionScript Code: var MapBtnArray:Array = []; var MapBtnSprite:Sprite; var i:int;
[Code].....
I'm using to code above to create several sprite on the stage, but when I click on the sprite, the index of each trace work just fine (output of J is according to the target i click); however MapBtnArray[j].x keep equals to "0"
I want the coordinate of the sprite on stage, how come what i get is "0" instead?
Loading a Sprite or MovieClip from the library to the Stage is simple. You just export the symbol and do the following code:
var mySp:Sprite1 = new Sprite1(); addChild(mySp)
assuming the exported sprite is called "Sprite1" and the base class is flash.display.Sprite
But what if you have many sprites and want to encapsulate this into a function with the sprite name passed as a string? What would the code in the function look like? Somehow you have to cast the string as the name of the sprite class defined in your export but I'm not sure how. I've seen a sample using the "as" keyword but try searching "as" in the help you you don't get much help.
Code: function loadSpriteFromLibrary(sSpriteName:String) { //load the sprite with an exported name passed into sSpriteName onto the stage //what would the code look like? }
