ActionScript 3.0 :: Stopping External Swf's With No Timeline?
May 24, 2010
I just released my portfolio at [URL] which consists of a lot of externally loaded swf's (progressive banners). These swf's contains no timeline really, just one keyframe with an imported FLV. I don't have the source files so I need to control these from my Main flash file.
As these external swf's are auto-playing, I would like it to be user initiated instead, so the users click on a button and it plays. But commands like "loader.stop()", "gotoAndPlay" etc. doesn't seem to work obviously.

I am creating an e-learning to put into an LMS which has sound files. in order to play in the LMS, the sound file has to be in the timeline of the flash file, and not called through attachSound, or attachAudio. I would like to trigger an event after the end of the sound, so i have made a movie clip, placed the sound in the movie clip, and put the event at the end.whenever i advance, or back up in my file, the sound continues to play. i've tried stopping the sound by:[code]neither of those will stop the sound. The movie will advance, but the sound also continues to play. If I go back to the sound, it restarts, but I will need a way to stop it.

I need to create a tall background, when the user clicks on a button the background will scroll up and down to the area that the user wants to go to. ( I attach an image of how that might look like)
The background is divided in to 4 sections, the way i figure to do this, is to have each section be a different part of the timeline- and what I need to happen is as the user arrives at one of the sections or in that part of the timeline the mc's on that sections start playing and stoping once he/she leaves.
If there is a better way of doing this as well- feel free of telling me- Im use flash about once a year.

So I am loading in external swfs and once loaded in I want to stop the main timeline. so I do the following.
var swf : MovieClip = e.target.content ;
swf.stop();
which doesn't work, because I have trace statements in the external swf which fire off after that command is called. Which, here is another weird thing, When I trace through the loaded swf, it says it has two children, a shape, and a Loader. The shape is weird because what I have is another movieclip on stage so I should get instaceXX, and I dont know where that Loader class is coming from.
which also brings me to another question which is everytime I add the swf to the stage it duplicates the instance, and I run out of memory really fast after I keep removing and re-adding it. all I call is.
targetMC.addChild(swf);
then after the swf dispatches an event saying its done.
targetMC.removeChild(swf);

I don't use Flash that much so the question may sound simple, but how do I pause audio in a timeline? I have added the audio, play and stop button. When I test it works fine, but I can't figure out how to add the pause button, or the play/pause button.

I have a Flash piece that has one main timeline that loads different movie clips and different sections of that main timeline.
On those embedded movie clips within the main timeline are sounds attached to the embedded movieclips timelines set to "stream". They have to be on the timeline so they sync up correctly (I can't load the sounds programatically).
I'm having the issue that when I navigate to a new section on the main timeline, the movieclip that was embedded on the timeline I navigated away from goes away, but the sound continues to play. I can't figure out how to get the sound to stop once I've navigated away.
I can't add a stop all sounds because the navigation of the movie is controlled from an external player I don't have control over (basically the external player just calls a gotoAndStop("myFrame") on the movie.)

I want to tear my hair out and cry! I've just upgraded to CS4 and am trying to create a simple swf that consists of a root timeline with various frames, each labelled 'home', 'bio' & 'contact'. There are buttons on the stage with instance names and then on the first frame of my root timeline I have the following code (as well as the _root.stop() as actionscript on the labelled frames):
Code:
_root.stop()
homebtn.onRelease = function():Void {

I am having a problem manipulating a loaded swf. I would like it to load, play once and not continue until told to. have looked around the web and have gotten confused.I have been using a loader, but I have read that to controll a time line you need a movieclip(?)so I had created an empty mc, and placed the loader with the swf in the mc.

I'm building a flash web site and I'm loading external SWF files to a main SWF. One of these external SWF loads videos using a FLVPlayback Component. The problem I have is when a video is playing and you press another link in the main SWF the other section loads but the video keeps playing in the background, eventhough every time a load a new external SWF I use the unload() method to unload the previous SWF.

I managed to use a loader to load an swf that has a video/audio track encapsulated within it. It starts and plays fine. Because of property rights considerations, I must use the provided swf with the video within it rather than converting it to an FLV.
And using the unload command I get the video portion to stop, but not the audio.
I know that I need some kind of audio stop to stop the audio, but haven't been able to figure out exactly how.
The parent swf is pretty simple, no buttons, it just plays 6 external swfs under control of another program that starts it and stops it with no other interaction.

I'm having a major problem stopping video that is played in an external SWF. I've added the external SWF file via the addChild method. However, when I remove it the video's audio keeps playing. The only other solution if I can't figure it out is rebuilding the site in AS2.

I am having a problem stopping external swf from playing. I am currently using FlashCS4 and publishing to Flash Player 10. I would really like to use the code loader.unloadAndStop();" to stop the swf. I tried using it but I keep getting the following error: 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method unloadAndstop hrough a reference with static type flash.display:Loader.loader.unloadAndstop();I read somewhere that since the swf files were published in Captivate (also using Flash player 10) I have to load the swf into a flash movie clip first then try the loader.unloadAndStop code. where to put that code or what I'm doing wrong? And please be very detailed, I am new at this and have little experience.
ActionScript Code:
fscommand("allowscale","false");
fscommand("showmenu","false");

I have an external .swf lib that I load using Loader class. I can get the content of it (images, text) using:
new (loader.contentLoaderInfo.applicationDomain.getDef inition(symbol) as Class)();
Then I use it to load a .swf (that I generated using Flash CS3 trial) inside that .swf lib:
var mc:MovieClip = new (loader.contentLoaderInfo.applicationDomain.getDef inition(symbol) as Class)();
I use addChild(mc) and the animation is displayed! So far so good, but the gotoAndStop, gotoAndPlay, stop and play, getting totalFrames, functions simply does not works!!!

I want it to while still easing into place like the iphone does. For example my stage is 550px. The drag and throw MC is 1650. That's 550x3. If the first image is showing starting at x axis 0 and you drag to the left it will ease into place stopping and showing the second image stopping the image at x axis 0. And the same thing scrolling to the next one and scrolling back. So the code is below and I've attached the movie that I'm working on.

import flash.media.SoundMixer;
if(SoundMixer.areSoundsInaccessible() == false)
{
SoundMixer.stopAll();
}
[Code]...
i got this scene, with this specific bgm , individual frame layer. and the sounds at another layer. what i want is to stop the sound without stopping the bgm . (yes, i know the above code wouldn't work as it stops all sounds)

Just wondering how to control the timeline of an external swf loaded into the root of your main timeline, from within nested movieclips on your main timeline?I can successfully control it once it's loaded from within the function that assigns the external swf a MovieClip var, but I want to control it from deeper in my main swf.1. I've loaded an external swf into the root of my main swf.2. After loading, I assign the external swf a MovieClip var, and then set up a button to control the timeline of the external swf:
function dataOnLoad(evt:Event): void {
var myClip:MovieClip = evt.target.content;
function updateSwf(evt:MouseEvent): void{

delete.myMCL1("game.swf").onEnterFrame;
myMCL1.onEnterFrame = unloadMovie;
delete myMCL1.onEnterFrame;

There are all kinds of tutorials on FLVPlayback, streaming video from a URL, etc., but nothing I can find on how to make it play nice with the rest of the flash animation in my .swf. I assume this is a matter of simple actionscript, but my ignorance is profound.
So . . . I've got a flash animation that leads into a gotoAndPlay button, which references the frame where my video starts. The video, streaming from my url, plays fine, but if it takes a moment to buffer, the main timeline in my .swf just continues on through the frames I've created for the length of the video. Since my intention is to have the video finish and loop back to the intro. animation, ending with the play button displaying again, what happens is that it loops before the video is done playing, leaving the audio still streaming but the viewer staring at the play button. In other words, if there is no lag time for buffering, the number of frames before it loops is enough for the whole video. If it lags for buffering, it cuts off part of my video, prematurely looping to the intro.
Is there a way to sync the two playheads, so to speak, so that the .swf doesn't continue on when the video is paused?

I have been going crazy all weekend trying to figure this out. All I want to do is communicate with the main timeline from a loaded external swf. So, I have loaded a external swf called "test.swf" from the main swf called "basetest.swf"So, on basetest.swf I have this code, simply loading test.swf:
var request2:URLRequest = new URLRequest("test.swf");
var loader:Loader = new Loader()
loader.load(request2);

I'm having a bit of time getting this to work.
Setup like this: Main mov:
Nav1 is clicked and loads in external swf. In the swf that was just loaded there is button to call another external swf on the main movie's timeline. I'm trying make a "lightbox" effect. Where you click on the external swf and the screen darkens and a swf is loaded on top of it. Above the loaded swf. Of course on a new layer.
PHP Code:
This is handling the swfs that get loaded in
EXTERNAL SWF LOADER
_root.page_mc.preloader_mc._visible = false;
_root.page_mc.preloaderText_txt._visible = false;
var mcLoader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
var myListener:Object = new Object();
mcLoader.addListener(myListener);

I'm definitely more designer than flash developer (as most of you might know. At least those that hang in the lounge or Arena). I need to know how to allow a loaded .swf file to control the main timeline in AS3.
I have a container .swf that includes global controls (jump menu/volume control) and branding. Loading a swf for the dialogue boxes (timeline animated ... although I realize there may be better ways to handle it). Another swf for a simcity-ish illustration that has animated elements with various states. I need all to be able to communicate with each other. I was able to load the movies no problem. Even communicate with the loaded ones from the main timeline. Just need to be able to go the other way.
