View 9 RepliesThis is part of my ongoing issue with 6 video files in six Scenes.I have 6 videos there were imported as enbedded, one in each scene. the first four play but the second two do not.whichever order i place the scenes, it is always the last two that pause at the first frame.o try another approach, I linked instead to a video externally. This seems to work, but, when I click a button to go to another scene the audio from the previous scene is still playing when the new video starts.

the class name/mc in the library im trying to duplicate is MCg1 so
var instanceName:MCg1 = new MCg1(); right?
However, the particular object in the library i'm trying to duplicate has a base class that is an external class file (just to control it's drag drop functionality)... i.e baseclass is not set to the standard flash.display.MovieClip, or whatever the case maybe. So i end out with a: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
I'm trying to wrap my head around AS3 and it isn't going well. I'm getting stuck on the most basic of problems it's making me pretty angry. I'm trying to do something as simple as reference the stage and I just can't figure it out; something that usually takes me seconds has eaten up 2 days of my time.
I have a Main.fla that outputs Main.swf; it contains no script, only library assets. I have a document class set up using Main.as, which itself has 1 trace and code to run the Preloader class, which is held in Preloader.as.

My flash application has lots of resources which will change all the time. In order to keep the the user from having to download my main .swf file over and over again, and in order to keep the main file's size low, I would like to put the resources into separate .swf files and load them dynamically from a url using a Loader.
Once downloaded I would like to extract the classes that are in the resource swf and use them in the main swf. Can anyone share some code for doing this? Note that I am not just interested in using a symbol from the resource swf. I would like to use a class, with all of its methods and everything, and my main swf does not contain the class definition. Only the resource swf does.
I have been searching for information regarding the use of loading an external xml file from a variable (string) that contains the location of the item and passes it to the document class.

fla is in same folder as class and the fla compiles the swf in another location (outside the folder and pulls xml from the xml folder).
I am currently using an external Class file for an instance in my .fla project. It creates an instance of that specific class and has it carry out some functions.I want to access a MovieClip on the stage in the .fla file in the external Class file. How can I do this?For example, the Class file creates an instance of that class, and I want the x and y coordinates of that instance to be equal to that of let's say circle_mc. Now circle_mc is on the stage of the .fla file, and therefore cannot be accessed. How can I get around this?

View 3 RepliesI have currently created a slideshow interface that makes my car looks like it's turning 360. I'm loading each external image as I press on the forward/back button. Right now, I have each external image load onto a movieClip Container.My problem is that every time I click on the button, the previous image unloads, showing a empty white space, before the next one loads.
Is there a way to try to load all the images at one so the transisitions look smooth and not have a whiteout effect between transitions? I want each image to load while the button is pressed down. Currently, I have to repeatedly click on the button to get to the next image.
I've recently started using the cache as bitmap switch on my on-stage movieclips, to great success, while creating my isometric RPG. What I can't grasp though, is how to apply it to AS-instantiated classes/object.How can I turn on cacheAsBitmap inside a class that extends movieclip? Alternatively, how can I do it from outside the class, from another class that adds mentioned movieclip to the stage?

On its personal timeline I have 2 frames, one entitled "inactive" and the other "active". Here's a sample of very similar code....

I have a dynamic textfield called neighName on my Flash stage. I also have a movieclip that I call a region on my stage. When I mouseover the region, I want a word to display in a little popup *and* I want some text to display in my textfield. I have an external .as file for handling the region. I can make the code "see" my region, but I can't seem to make it see my textfield, although no errors are being thrown.

View 2 RepliesI'm building an external class file that other developers can use to include a set of functions that essentially read and write data to MySQL via PHP.
The idea is that their AS2 script calls a method in my class which uses LoadVars to verify the data passed to it and write it to a database, and then it returns a value back to the AS.
I'm having a problem where the delay in waiting for OnLoad means that the calling AS function gets an undefined value back. i.e.
var returnValue=myClass.myMethod(params);
This (I assume) is setting returnValue instantly, despite the fact that LoadVars can take a little while to work.
What's the recommended/normal way to deal with this? I don't want to have to bring the OnLoad part of the process back into the developer's script, it would be nice to keep it all in the class. is there a way to make the calling script wait for a response?
Im trying to make a class that loads in some external data, and then creates some arrays in the class, which names and content are based on the data that are loaded. What i have now, is something like like this:

I am dynamically loading external SWFs in a Main Fla in response to clicks on a menu.
The loading code is standard and works fine for all of the SWFs except one. When I try to load it I get the following error: Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2035: URL Not Found.
I am certain that the URL to the problem SWF is correct. The SWF itself doesn't load any other SWFs or images. The problem SWF is linked to an external class file and compiled with it. i.e. in the properties panel of the main timeline of the problem SWF's Fla I have entered the path to the external class.
1. there is no problem compiling this SWF with the class (it works fine by itself)2. if I remove the external class from the properties panel and don't use it the resulting SWF imports without a problem into the Main Fla mentioned before So the problem seems to be the fact that the external class is linked in the properties panel. Is this a path problem?
I've been searching around all afternoon, and am pulling my hair out. 1) I have a movieclip instance on stage (simple graphical element that represents platforms for a hero to run and jump along). I have placed it on the stage with an external class engine.as and in this class it is called myPlatform and is an object of Platforms.as. The movieClip is called platforms and from a trace(myPlatform.name) the instance name is instance3.
2) I am attempting to access the properties of myPlatform in an Enterframe event loop in my character control and collision class (called hero.as)

This all worked when I was writing actionscipt within the FLA file, on the timeline frame 1. I simply don't know how to access myPlatform from within the external Hero.as class! Do I need to create a variable? Is there a really easy way to do this with some syntax/command that I have not learned yet?
I'll start off by saying I'm a newbie, just putting that out there. How do you make a turn by turn multiplayer flash game? I don't know if an engine is made in AS3, PHP, Javascript, or whatever,I made my game already, it's just that it isn'tmultiplayer yet. Basically, there are lines, and each player crosses out a number of lines, and the last player to cross out a line is the loser. I want it where one user crosses out some lines, then presses End Turn, then the other does their turn and then presses End Turn to allow the other player to move his cursor. But how can I get both players to see the same frame and only have one player have the ability to move the cursor during a turn? Is there some easily adaptable multiplayer engine for flash for newbies out there
View 2 RepliesI have a project where an external video plays with cue points that trigger the elements on my main timeline (captions). I have a custom mute button for the video so that the guy talking on the video can be muted if necessary (did not use a skin for video controls but set it up as a button). The problem is, when I reach the end of the video and I click a "replay" button to restart at the beginning, the timeline and video start but if the video was muted previously, the video remains muted while my button shows that it isn't. How do I get the audio to turn back on automatically when restarted, or at a minimum show that it's still muted when replaying? My replay button AS2. mcPlayer is my flv.

I'm building a game in which I have different player objects which will behave differently. I want to make a player(i call it professor) class held in an external .as file. I need to be able to assign onEnterFrame attributes in for this class in the external .as file and I'm encountering some difficulties. here is my .as file

The constructor is working fine, along witht he getSkin function, but I can't get the onEnterFrame function to work. It is my understanding that once I instantiate an instance of the Professor class that the onEnterFrame function should kick over and start sending my trace statement to the debugger at the current frame rate.

I have my swf, and within it is a button, when this button is clicked, would it be possible to load Notepad.exe?I am not looking to turn my swf into a projector file (think this would make it an .exe).If this is not possible from within AS3, are there any libraries anyone knows of which could handle this, or maybe even another solution to getting this done.The main thing is having an swf load a exe, not an exe loading an exe.

I simply copied it from a tutorial. Unfortunately it throws an error message as follows:

PS: I have CS3 professional in my machine but I am following Flash 8 book. But my CS3 application supports AS1, 2 and 3.
I have a website that reloads same flash swf on different pages. It has music attached to the swf file. My question is how to make people turn off music on a single page and when they look at other pages, the pages remain 0 volume, and when they turn on the music on a single page, it globally turn on all other swf files music.

I have been using code snippets to link the different frames. I have created an animation that I would like to play when the user gets to the conclusion (I will use the 'click to go to frame and play' code snippet) but how can I turn the animation file into a single frame or object but still function as a animation. I tried saving as a SWF and drag into my project so it could appear as a object but it only plays in another window.

View 1 RepliesI have a Main.fla which loads Main.as as its document class. In Main.as I have a public function named "Main" which runs a trace. I also have another .as file called Preloader.as, which also has a public function in it, this one named "Preloader" with simple trace in it. I just cannot figure out how to use Preloader() from the Preloader class in Main() from the Main class. Main.as loads up fine when the SWF loads and traces.
