I am trying to get a loading screen to work. I am using a EventEnterFrame to check how much is loaded but I continue to have problems. I use the code in the first frame on the timeline, with extra movieclips running on that timeline with their own scripts. Can seem to get the loader to display. Considering using a ProgressEvent.
Here's the loader code.

I got to make a preloading class to be used all along the project, i need to be able to make some behaviours depending on the user internet connection.i have to load all sort of data and display progress percentage for ; SWFs, JPGs, GIFs, PNGs and Text, XML, Binary..i got problemes while tracing the progress of loading XML requests becaus I have to load XML using URLLoader and other data with Loader:

as you can see, in xml ther's no progress. is there any work around? or is this a flash related bug?I used Loader to load XML files but got problemes with Event.COMPLETE not firing.
I'm trying to get smoother steps in checking the ProgressEvent when loading the image to the Loader.At this moment my eventrogressEvent checks the progress aprox twice within a second. Is there any way to make it check constantly (or more often), so the progres bar "grows" smoothly instead of "jumping"?
View 9 RepliesI created a button class with a method that will allow me to control an external SWF. However, the loader for the SWF is created on my main timeline. Is it possible to access the loader object from within my button class?No matter what I try I either get an error that the variable is not defined (rightfully so because I haven't defined it in the class, it's defined on the main timeline) or that the object is null (when I declare the loader from within the class, which I know is wrong as well)

Now, I want to create another external class (called MainMenu) that will be initiated from the Main class.This class should create the menu based on the loaded XML class.
My question is, how can I make use of the loaded XML content via XMLLoader class within the MainMenu class?
I have an XML file which has info about projects for my portfolio, there are 7 of them at the moment. I'm trying to have a preloader animation show up in place of every portfolio image before it's shown on stage. The problem is that there are 14 of those preloaders being instantiated rather than 7!! How could that be possible? Check out my code:

I am trying to send the download progress updates back to the main Document Class and display it on screen, so I am trying to dispatch the event "PROGRESS_INFO" and then get the information from the passed Event Object, like so: Document Class

This however, is proving futile... any ideas on how I can get the progress info out of the IMageLoader class? note: I know I can add bytesLoaded & bytesTotal to a public variable, but then I won't get the benefit of seeing the bytesLoaded property update in the ProgressEvent class.

The class is BigBackground.as. It does the loading of the backgrounds, and then in the .fla I would like to manipulate these "BigBackgrounds" starting with the width. However, even though the width traces correctly from BigBackground.as, the width traces to 0 from the .fla file. I can access width from the class, but how can I access the width & height from the .fla?[code]...

View 1 RepliesSo, i'm currently working on an xml based banner. The banner has seven "pages," each with it's own image and url (specified in the xml file).A preloader loads in the swf, and then another loader in the main swf loads in the xml and images (displaying percent loaded and whatnot).
The problem that I'm running into is that I can't figure out how to access the previously loaded images when I want to call my transition function... I added as many comments in the fla as I could, if there are any questions feel free to post, I'll be here all night.
All in all, I need a second set of eyes to skim my project and help me streamline the process.

this is so embaresing and my whole business is suffering from this[URL].. the key point in my TextArea class which extends TextField is to load external swf files and I use the .parent property of the Loader class to access the textfield... with the new security updates coming with 11.2 I cannot access the parent and the whole thing crashes to give you more insight:

I'm writing a simple little test app consisting of 'main.as' and 'test.png', both within the same subdir on my harddrive. I'm compiling via command line with mxmlc, and testing via 'open with...' and Chrome. The code uses flash.display.Loader.load( "test.png" ) - but I can't access the loaded content (or even draw it to a bitmapdata!) due to security exceptions.
My goal is to get the image into something (preferably a bitmapdata!) I can draw to other bitmapdatas, as I understand this is fastest for gaming. I've tried all sorts of things, including creating a 'crossdomain.xml' that goes in the same dir as the above files (and doing the appropriate LoaderContext thing), tried various system.Security things and still no joy.

You can see that the two last classes extend the first one, and both have the 'variable' property. In case that I have an instance of Example and I am sure it is also an ExtendedExample OR AnotherExtendedExample instance, is there some way to access the 'variable' property? Something like

I have a initApp.as which instantiates a class which needs to access the "currentState" property and the States array as well. However we cannot get this to work as we cannot see how we can access this information.
Within initApp.as currentState is accessed via "this.currentState". This does not work in the class which is instatiated within initApp.as. The following error is thrown:
"Access of undefined property currentState."

I am trying to access a public property from AvEniroments class through the Player class, however I'm getting an undefined property error (#119). I've tried the following:

this.x = parent.xs
I've also tried something like this:

but I get a TypeError. Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
How to access a display object on the stage in a class which is not a document class?
I am looking for a solution that doesn't involve passing the stage as a parameter to the class.
One solution i always come across is using "TopLevel.as". Is it a good method because as far as I have heard using global variables is not recommended because it might cause some problems while working on big projects.
I was wondering how do you access the stage property from a different class that's not the principal class tied to the fla? Essentially, I have main.as which calls another class menu.as, and I can't seem to be able to use the stage.stageWidth property from menu.as. What's the proper way to be able to use the stage property from any class? Do I have to import it separately each time?
View 2 RepliesI'm just now learning the new object oriented way of scripting. It's been a wild ride, but I've finally learned how to keep script off my frames (very hard coming from as2).Here's my problem:
I have a TextField on the stage in my main .fla file named loadPercent.
I'm loading a jpg with preLoad.as and displaying the bytes loaded in loadPercent.
I can access my loadPercent TextField from my MainClass
but I can't access it from preLoad.as
the document class is MainClass.as

I get three '#1120 access of undefined propery' errors for each time i try to access loadPercent.
a few basic questions: 1. all my files are in a folder in my documents, not in the flash directory, is this bad? I've seen people using com.whatever etc.
2. my main .fla file does not share the same name as my MainClass.as (it's not named MainClass.fla) Is that a problem?
I'm assuming these are inconsequential because my code seems to work up to a certain point.
