ActionScript 3.0 :: An EventListener Listen For A Variable Change?
Mar 25, 2010
I have a "var counter:Number;" that changes when a function runs I need to know when that variable changes and what it has changed to so another function can use it
How do I listen from the main class to a sub class for a variable change?
package { import flash.events.* public class DataBase extends MovieClip {
[Code].....
This is what I have so far for the sub class but I can't seem to figure out how to listen to this variable change from Main() or even if I am dispatching the event properly.
if there is a way to listen to a variable for changes? I've seen that you can listen to a change in a component, but I've not found any examples of variables?This is what I have tried, to no avail....
Code: var myVariable:Number = 0; var myListener = new Object(); myListener.change = function(change) { trace("variable changed");
[code]...
I have also tried .onChange instead of just .change but get the same results.
i have 5 submit buttons for example. When each submit button is clicked, a portion of the application is done. When all 5 portions are completed(or when 5 variables == true) I want something to happen.As of right now, on my submit buttons I am checking to see if all variables are true like so...

I have an Object in actionscript which has a few dozens of properties each of which is defined to be bindable and has its own change event. I would like to listen to any changes made to this object without having to add a listener to all of its properties. Is there a way in actionscript using which I can listen to any change in the values of an Object ?
I have 3 buttons that increase/decrease the var 'StressPercent' and this in turn shows the new number in a 'Stresslevelbox' text box. How do I now add an EventListener for when the 'StressPercent' var changes?
Code: var StressLevelbox:TextField = new TextField(); StressLevelbox.text = "Stress"; StressLevelbox.x = 10;
I have been making an image gallery and I want to add an image text to bottom margin of every image which heights differ from one another. I am loading images in Loader.as. That's why I have to use the following script to get the height of the first image from the Loader.as:Main.as:
public var textbox:Textbox= new Textbox(); public var imageText_tf:TextField = new TextField(); imageContainer.addEventListener("imageLoaded", function(e:Event):void{
I have a number of nodes that are plotted on stage. I want to display the value of each node when hovering over the node (using the Tooltip class). [code]...
Before someone tells me that I should have searched the forum before posting an easy question like this one probably is that has already been posted and responded to a hundred times, I did try to search but I kept getting an error page saying something is wrong with the site. So anyways, what I am trying to do is have a text box display the number 100. Then there are two buttons. When one is hit, the number bisects between itself and last number lower than it displayed, when the other is hit it bisects between itself and the last number larger than it displayed. For instance, hitting the first button will change the value to 50 then when hit again to 25. If you then hit the second button it goes to 37.5 and then hit that button again it goes to 43.75. I have the following code:
var ce:Number=100; ce0_txt.text=String(ce); ce0left_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, bisectdown);
I have a function inside of a class which is called by an event Listener I need access to a variable inside the function after the eventListener has been called. The variable name i need is stream and the function it lives in is called NetStreamxx. I tried to return stream but i don't know how to access the returned value here is the code
why my variable does not get updated when I try to modify it from an event listener function? for example in the code below _resultXmlList will be null if I try to get it from getXml I think there is no access to member variables from an event listener.
So I've got a function that does several things: It creates video cue points, loads content & executes a function based on those cue points, and finally, sets the eventlistener for the video.
The problem I'm having (after tracing it out) is that the variables within the function seem to be stored as an 'array-like' deal. In other words, the variables output as they should when initially clicked. Next time the code executes, it outputs the newest variable values then IMMEDIATELY the first variable values. This output 'builds' and builds but ultimately the content never dynamically changes as it always ends up loading the first content that was loaded very first time out. I'm *guessing* it has something to do with the event listener being re-instantiated? Tried modifying where I add the listener to no avail.
Any thoughts?
Code: function vidPlay(vidName) { swfText.gotoAndStop(1); // mc1 to load external data & play a function swfText._alpha = 100;
[Code]....
I still haven't been able to figure this one out. My best guess is something to do with the eventlistener being re-instatiated each time the function is called, but I'm not sure. Again, it seems to either be 'storing' the variables in a backwards array somehow (first variable is stored and accessed last at all times) or maybe somehow it's creating multiple instances of the eventlistener and the variables are being pulled from the first iteration of it.
I have a set of Cue Points in an FLV I'm playing. It's an interactive quiz, so the idea is that flash will change a variable, theAnswer, to a different letter depending on which question it is. The answer to question 1 is B, question 2 is D, etc. Either the cue point event listener isn't working, or else it is working and Flash isn't declaring the variables. 1120: Access of undefined property theAnswer. I literally can't find a single problem with my code. I have an almost identical Event Listener further down which works.
Im really new to as3, and im just trying out some stuff, but i cant get a shape to refresh and change when i change its variable using a text field.If i change the text fields text before i test it, it works, but while its running it doesnt change it again.Btw, trying to change the stroke size.[code]i just want is so that when i change the strokeSize_txt text box, it will change the stroke for the shape.
I have been banging my head against a brick wall regarding the following problem which must be very simple to fix, just can't see the answer.I have a class assigned to a movieclip called canvas. The class is called drawClass. I have called the instance of canvas on the stage 'drawingCanvas'.When I trace "drawingCanvas" I get object drawClass] which is fine. Tracing drawingCanvas.name gets me the instance name 'drawingCanvas'.This is a String variable.Basically what I am trying to do is pass the MovieClip name to another class. In my example the class 'toolBar', which can then interact with the MovieClip.
The problem is passing 'drawingCanvas.name' results in a String, so I get an error saying :TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert "canvasArea" to flash.display.MovieClip.I can't for love or money find a way to convert a String variable to a MovieClip variable! I have the name of the MovieClip, I just need to tell the toolbar class. But I can't find a way of doing this as the instance on stage is an object of drawingClass, not a MovieClip (unless MovieClips with attached classes are not treated as standard MovieClips?).
I'm creating a board game which has 3 variables, p1Move, p2Move and activePlayer. p1Move and p2Move store the p1 and p2 location on a game board. activePlayer stored who's turn it is at the moment.
I am loading a value in from a text file which changes the value of move. This all works fine when i designate a player directly:
so that flash changes the value of p1Move (or p2Move depending on who's turn it is) to varAmount. varAmount is the variable being read from the textfile.
Hopefully that all makes sense. Basically i want flash to change the variable associated with the active player only.
I have an flash movie with on the main timeline a movieclip "MC1". In this movieclip I have another movieclip "MC2". On the first frame of MC1 I have declared a variable x and I want to give this variable a new value when I click on MC2 but it doesn't work?!
I am attempting to make a remoddled clone of the game at [url]...so far i have some blobs that slowly move down through a door, then when they're off the screen they jump back above the screen to come back down.my problem is that the door is user controlled using this code on a butten[code]...
I'm working on a game were your health variable will add 1 hp automatically every second if the health variable is not equal to 100. How would you do that?
I have one swf file that containes a mc using an easing function to move an arrow around. That mc has the instance named myruler. The arrow moves based on the value of a variable named "y". This swf also has a mc that I use as a container to load movies into. The movies that are loaded into the container mc have buttons that I would like to use to change the value of the variable "y" in the movie clip named myruler found in my base swf. Did that make sense? [code]...
What is the best way to listen for and trigger a function when a string stored in a variable changes? I have a variable named source which is a string. When its value changes I need to run a function newVideo. What's the most efficient way to detect the string has changed?
I have a flash movie being loaded inside a parent movie. Inside the loaded movie is a variable called lvl, and its refered to as loadedmovie.lvl in the parent movie.
So if i'm wondering what the lvl is in the loaded movie, I just use loadedmovie.lvl to get the variable.
But I want to know when this variable CHANGES. How am I able to detect when this lvl variable changes? Inside the loaded movie, it's been set to change almost every frame in the movie, but I'm not going to call a function inside every frame of that movie to find out when it changes.
how do I detect a variable change and then make it call a function?
