ActionScript 3.0 :: Cant Use Underneath Buttons Because LAYER1 Button Is Blocking Their Functionality

lets just say in simple words that i hve on a layer(lets say LAYER1) a button that on rollover moves an other set of buttons which are on an other layer underneath the first layer(LAYER1).the problem is that i cant use the underneath buttons because the LAYER1 button is blocking their functionality

I have a button on one layer and a dynamic textfield on a layer above it. The dynamic textfield gets populated from an XML file. When I test the movie, the dynamic textfield actually blocks the functionality of the button. It can't be clicked and the cursor doesn't change when rolling over the button.

scenario: user rolls over a button, "something_mc" covers the entire flash movie, but buttons underneath that "something_mc" are still active. how would i disable the buttons underneath until user rolls off of "something_mc" (and in doing so reactivates the buttons).looks like most search options here bring up when another .swf is loaded ontop of another. my situation is if everythings in the same movie.

I am really struggling, I have some buttons on layer 0 I then have a pop up box on layer 1 that covers the buttons. However the buttons are still active underneath.

I've been creating a calculator as part of an assignment. I've created button instances in actionscript and then putting a text field over it. The problem is the text field blocks my button so it is difficult to press.exaple code:

made a site with several buttons that load other .swf on level 1 which cover the entire stage, but the buttons that are on level 0 can still be clicked on. Is there anyway to block these buttons while the level 1 .swf is playing

I made a help screen that pops up when the user clicks the "help" button. To accomplish this, I place the movieclip on the top layer, and set it's _visible to false. When the user clicks "help", visible = true, and BAM, help screen appears. The problem is that all of the buttons underneath my helpPage movieclip are still clickable.

I don't know if it's an AS3 thing, or a Flash 10 thing, both of which I don't work in frequently..... (usually, I'm working in Flash 8, and AS2 for most of my projects)
Basically, when I have invisible content over a button in my flash movie, the button no longer works. Like I said, it's something that's never been an issue before.
Where it shows up is when I want to make a piece of content visible over a button when the user mouses over the button, so the piece of content would start over the button with its alpha set to 0. I would typically change the visibility of the object I want to make visible when the button is rolled over. But now when that object is over my button at 0 opacity, the button no longer works....and again, I've never had this be an issue before.

I would like to block mouse overs/buttons beneath a movieclip that has played. This should be straightforward by creating a new layer and inserting a string, however, these techniques haven't worked for me and one of my questions here is, "Are these solutions not working because my movieclips play from external swfs in a container?" Either way, I'm up for hearing any solutions you may have and trying them out even if I've tried them before.
Secondly, I would like to create a "back button" which excutes from my movieclip and unloads all movieclips. I need it to return to my main menu. Unfortunately, I've tried buttons which include the command unloadMovieClip and that seems to prevent all movieclips from playing again. This could have something to do with what I mentioned above - all of my movieclips are called from external swfs into a container.
The least important of these (since I need the first two things to work before I do this detail) is... if one of my buttons is pushed starting a movie clip and the user then pushes another button that also starts a movie clip before the first clip has finished playing, How do I interrupt the first movieclip so the second can begin playing? Currently, my movieclips will play through until the end before they will respond to a new clip being loaded.

I'm making a menu. It consist of three mc's (btn1, btn2 and btn3) and two squares The two squares rescale horizontal in different directions depending on the button that is presses. When the squares come to an hold there is a little gap between them underneath the button that was presses and the button is going 20 pixels down into that gap. Below is the code I have used:

When the movie starts everything is fine. First the two squares are rescaling. When that is done the buttons are fading in and finaly btn1 is going 20 pixels down in to the gap. But what I would like to accomplish now is that when btn2 is pressed that first btn1 is going back up again when that is done that the two squares are rescaling untill the gap is below btn2 and that after that btn 2 is going down 20 pixels.
And that is where I have problems. Point one when I don't know how to integrate a if (if used) in the button event, so everything is going to move at the same time(btn2 already moves before the squares are in place and the squares are already moving before btn1 is back up again) and secondly the way I have it now btn1 is indeed moving back up again, but after that its up it also going back down again.

I'm working on a site and I have 2 movieClips/buttons that I would like to use as use as next frame/ previous frame triggers respectively. Is there a way to set the buttons up once and then access the functionality from the various levels of the site? Note that the prev/next buttons will not always be on the stage.

Im designing a site with accessible controls, and the best way for me to do this is load each external swf into a container movieclip that then has all the controls applied to it.This container movie then also has another layer above with a movieclip on top of that acting as a filter layer to invert the colours. This is controlled by a keyboard press.Now when I run my project with this filter layer movieclip it prevents me from mouse clicking on any of the buttons in the externally loaded swf, without it they work fine.Is there any way that I can get through this movieclip so I can mouse click / rollover those buttons?

I've got a movie clip with masked-out areas. It's placed on top of various buttons.The idea is, the user rotates the top movie clip to reveal stationary buttons beneath it. Where there's a hole in the top movie clip, i'd like the user to be able to click the button revealed below.
It's looking like that's not possible. The buttons underneath cannot be activated, because the top movie clip is in the way, despite the transparency from the mask.
I'll begin thinking of a Plan B workaround, but first I wanted to ask if there's a way I'm not thinking of to do my Plan A.

I have various buttons on stage that will initiate a popup box upon hover. But some of the pop up boxes are too big and covers some buttons which disables the button.Is there anyway around this? Logically, when a button isn't hovered, its popup box shouldn't cover what's underneath it. I have tried moving the layers around, although this works, but now the buttons are on top of the pop-up boxes which is no good.

I have a series of buttons and a text field that follows the cursor, showing you the name of the button you roll over. How do I get the text field to stop interfering with the buttons? You don't get the pointing finger or get a click registered since you're clicking on the text, not the button.
I tried setting the mouseChildren of the text to false, which did nothing. And since it's not part of any button, there's no point in setting the property for each button.
My only option is to have hidden copies of the button floating over the text, but there ought to be a way to have the click pass thru the text and reach the button, yes?
P.S. FWIW, the buttons are actually movie clips with buttonmode = true and useHandCursor = true.

I have a button that I created, but the center of the button has text in it that covers the majority of the button. Both the button and the text were NOT created with actionscript. When I roll the mouse over the button only the edges activate the button. Is there anyway using actionscript that I can still see the text but have the button activate if the mouse is over the center of it?
Edit: The button is an actual button(ie the dropdown says button) not a movieclip.

I have a couple of buttons that slide up and down, when in the up state I add an X graphic to symbolize a a close button. However the X graphic seems to be blocking my button action.I have an example in the movie I've been working on >> here <<.There are 2 movies here, the big one if you click either blue tab you will see what I'm talking about, X button shows up, but clicking over the X area will not drop the button down. You have to click on blue button area to drop the button back down.Now I've made a smaller test movie adding the X button basically the same way and if you will notice it works fine (will animate to the right even if you click over the X graphic)Here is my code in the Big movie (I hid the tween code so it won't be so long):

i am creating a simple set of a few rectangles stacked on top of eachother (going to be like a stack of postcards) and i want to have the user click on the top rectangle and it moves to reveal the one underneath it. i have it all set up to work except i can't think of a way to stop it from being clickable after it's been moved to the side and the 2nd rectangle is revealed. does this make any sense? here is my code:

I have a movie with 5 movieclips named section1_mc, section2_mc, section3_mc, etcI want to advance to frames 1 - 5 by clicking in each of the movieclips. Do I need to add the onRelease to each of them, or is there a way to do it once for everybody. I had to create a menu using array and I had to animate it. With some great expertise from people, I've accomplished that. But now I have a question about OOP, because I'm trying to add functionality to the buttons to load swfs into my main movie. Even though I strictly follow tutorials and exercises, I can't figure out how to reference a variable made in one class to another. For instance, I have index.as, navbar.as, and menubutton.as. I assume I need to add a loader to my index.as. But I can't trace the loader in my other classes. I've been told to effectively accomplish this, it is best to use custom event dispatchers. But I'm lost on how to use them.

I am trying to get this drop-down menu to work, I've followed several video tutorials and have pieced this together, but I am FAR from REALLY knowing what I am doing...The trace function shows the NavBar_mc is working, but I don't understand how to get the eventListener to goToAnd Play a frame label on the main timeline. Similar problem with the drop down menu.To clarify: The AS that controls the glowFilter on the main buttons is on the main timeline (the GlowFilter part works, but not the navigation):

I have a video player that when buttons are pressed a video loads and plays. Every once in a while when I button mash I am able to get mulitple videos playing at once. I thought I had set the code up to remove all children before loading another video.I have a feeling that my issues can ultimatly be fixed using the BUFFERING_STATE_ENTERED listener.
Is there a good way to disable all buttons on the screen while BUFFERING_STATE_ENTERED is active and turn everything back on once BUFFERING_STATE_ENTERED is complete?

Trying to code one button to preform different functions upon each additional click.
First click: you get a tree full size Second click of this same button: you get an additional tree 50 size in a new location Third click of this same button: you get another tree 25% of the size of the first tree and in a new location.
The way it works now is the 2 smaller trees come up when the movie runs and the third appears on the button click.

I have a couple Buttons on the stage (the ones you find in the flash's built-in components). Whenever I press space-bar, the button gets "clicked". This is bothering me because I only want the button to be activated with a mouse click. Is there any way to make the buttons not respond to keyboard events?

I have been tasked with adding button functionality for a fence companies flash application. Specifically, the buttons will be in a drop down horizontal menu. They will have to display (and hide) certain accessories that will be placed on the fence or are a part of the fence itself. For an example of something similar, please check out the design studio at this site -[URL]. It is the application about halfway down the page and after hitting the APP MENU button, it is the top most option.note that as the fence moves (by scrollers) the accessories always stay with the fence. So, I am guessing that the whole thing is a movieclip and that the buttons are referencing?, showing?, hiding? certain aspects of the movieclip.
