I am using as3 and within my movie I have a dynamic text box that contains a score.I need this score to be written to a text file preferbly in an array that only stores the highest 5 scores.I then need values from the array to be read and displayed on another movie which will act as a high score table. e.g. I will have a dynamic text box in my high score move that will display the 1st value in the array, and then the 2nd etc.
writing/reading data to text files.Alternatively if anyone else can suggest another method for a high score table please let me know. I only need a basic high score table that runs on a users local machine as the app i am making is desined to run on individual users machines.
I have successfully written my XML from flash to the server using php. But now I need to have it write to a Windows server using either asp or asp.net. View 7 RepliesI've just been approached my current project needs to run from a CD and write data (bookmarking) to the hard drive. Been told the file will still launch from a html document and not AIR. Orginally had it built in AIR, no problem writing data. I remembered what I thought was a SharedObject but that does not sound right for writing out the data. Which is an xml file I am building from the student login.
Since I can't use AIR is there another function someone knows for writing a file to a location on the hard drive? Time is pressing on this one. I have to have an answer by morning.
This is an area of Flash I haven't experimented in, so I don't know where to start. Is it possible to run an SWF, and have Flash export variables externally, as the SWF is running? So for example, export an Array to XML? It doesn't need to be PHP, and stored serverside etc, just written locally on the computer would be fine.

I need to save and load data to and from variables. I know how to read from text-files, but not how to write to them. The text-files should work as a "database" for the high-score in a game, I cant use php cause the computer running the game wont be online all the time.

If user change the value of the TextInput, then click refresh button to retrieve the data model from backend again, the GUI value will not change back. Re-binding not happen, Since the value of data model not changed, no propertyChanged event fired.In this case, I must Programmatically set the model value to the GUI after data refreshing done.I know bi-directional binding can solve this problem(when user change value on GUI, set the new value to data model immediately). But sometimes I cannot use bi-directional binding, for example, the data model is a int, but user input a non-int value, I cannot set the value to data model. So the value in data model do not change, when refresh data, rebinding still not happen.
This will make the data binding useless. How to resolve this?I put pseudo-code here for now, I will put real code later:1. retrieve a data model from server, via blazeds or something else.2. bind the model to a TextInput on GUI.3. user change the TextInput text.4. The code below imports the XML, parses it into arrays, then displays it on screen in dynamimc text boxes and UILoader components. The XML only has 4 sets of (people) data in it. I have a graphic set as a button that holds the thing at image one. I need to get rid of that, I think.
The problems are it waits to display the first data set in the array until clicked and it does not go all the way through the last data set. I traced imageNum after it gets incremented. On the first click, the home screen goes away and I get a blank screen. Second click, I get image 1, third click, I get images 2 AND 3. Forth click, image 3 stays up but the output window says image 4. So, where it should be image 3, the code thinks it's image 4 and stops.[code]...
how can I add number to a current variable in actionscript. My variable has data coming though php(numeric data) so I want to create an if statement to say this:
If the data number(let's use 5) is equal to 5+any number then do something.
Should be pretty simple but I can't seem to figure it out right now, how can I say "any number" with code?

Thing is the + number is uknown... so + 1 may not work cause the number may be higher than 1.
I am executing a computeSpectrum function every 1/10 of a second (the speed I should be sampling the sound frequency to obtain a data bit). However the computeSpectrum seems to be giving me the same output every two or three times I call it.
Take a look at the source code and check the Binary read. Notice the binary read is repeating numbers, and the lack of single '0' or '1' bits? There should be some single '0's and '1's in there! I even made arrays of all of the input to check if the uncompressed ByteArray data was repeating and sure enough, the samples were quite often IDENTICAL every 2 or 3 calls...
PS: The audio sample data [More audio samples available there] I'm using is Peceptive Development's 'How to talk to Tin Can' [More info on reading audio as data there]. The audio sample provided in the archive is 'Low speed', which means the data is being sent at 100 baud (100 baud / 1000 ms = 10 bits per second)
I'm building a project for a gaming website and i have an interesting dilemma. How do i make the font color change based on the data loaded from the external .txt file.
Example:
In text files i could have... yes yes yes no no maybe yes no. If the text says yes i would like for the font to change to green, if no to red, or maybe to orange/yellowish.
So basically if i went in and changed the No to a Yes on a .txt file, the next time i viewed that flash section the yes text would be in green instead of the default set by the flash core itself.
I hope i am making sense. I don't even know how to go about starting and i stared at the actionscript list for awhile to no avail.
Let's say I have a file that loads an AS. Within that AS is an array that loads to a list menu in the main file or .fla. The list menu is used as navigation, so when the user clicks on one of the items, in the list, it goes to, let's say, frame 2.Now, on frame 2 I would like to change the information in the array so that the list menu now contains a new list of links.

I am creating a slideshow within Flash that uses XML data pulled from a database. Is there any way to manipulate the image size from within Flash? I am going to use the slideshow for a plasma display, and have clients uploading image files at random, which are then added to our database. I need each image to be 16:9. I know the easy way to control this would be to give the clients size requirements - we will do this in the future - but unfortunately there are hundreds of images already in the database that are already odd sizes. While it's clearly possible to change the size of the movie itself, is there a way to force each image that is imported from the XML to be a particular size - say 800 x 450 or 1200x 675 or 1600 x 900? (i.e. -- can I force the XML generated image to fill up the whole screen/browser window, regardless of what size it is?) It does not matter if the image gets distorted or stretched.
