ActionScript 3.0 :: Check Another Event Inside An Event?

I am having trouble using a custom event in flex. I need to dispatch an event from inside two nested components and receive it in the main application file. The basic set up is a main application file importing a custom "gallery" component.

In my AIR application, I try to dispatch a custom event from a class to main window.This class is use to call httpservice. My goal is to send a custom window when the httpservice result is send.[code]...
View 1 RepliesMy stage has about 25 buttons on it. Each button when pressed to tweens the background to some random x/y coordinates and then loads an external swf file.This is all working, but the timing is off. How can I wait for the initial background tween to end before I make the loader call to the .swf file.Currently each button's behavior is called on the MouseEvent.CLICK event which calls a function that knows its unique filename.swf. I know you can add the MOTION_FINISH even to the tween event but then I would have to call a new function and lose track of the button that initially called it.
View 3 RepliesI have an event listener for a custom event type. This custom event overrides the clone method as required.In this event listener I want to dispatch an instance of a different type of event... a different custom event instance altogether. It also overrides the clone method as required.The problem is I'm getting a type coercion error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: ...I do not know what is trying to do the casting. My code is:
/* elsewhere in a method */
addEventListener(GestureEvent.GESTURE_SCALE, handlePinched);
/* the event handler */

I have editable grids which are 2-way binded to my model. What I want is to validate my data when user edits any cell before it get updated in model. I have applied my validation at ItemEditEnd handler, but, I want to apply validation in between itemEditBegin and itemEditEnd events.
View 1 RepliesI hava a custom component and it contains a child icon. If I add a mouse-click event listener to both component(click-listener1) and icon(click-listener2), the event dispatched sequence is click-listener2, then click-listener1. I can understand it. But if I add a custom event to component (listener1), and mouse-click event to icon(listener2), when icon is clicked, the component will dispatch the custom event. In my test, the event dispatched sequence is listener1, then listener2. It doesn't match with event-bubbles rule.
In my opinion The custom event is dispatched in listener2, which triggers listener1. Why event flow sequence is not listener2, listener1?
In component.
icon.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, iconClickHandler);
private function iconClickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void

I am trying to learn JavaScript and I am wondering whether JavaScript has a event listener just like ActionScript's ENTER_FRAME. Basically, I want this event listener to listen "all the time" not just wait for any particular instance (mouse click, keyboard event) of event.
View 3 RepliesIs it possible to check if a movieclip has an event listener on it?
View 2 RepliesI have a an swf, called 'controls' that I created with flash cs4. I upload the controls.swf to my web server. I create an application in flex and it loads the external swf controls into itself. So far I can manipulate the controls.swf via my flex app. I created a class in my external swf, but I need to add some onResize event/check to my scroll bar. For example, if my scrollbar size increases/decreases, I want it to change variable values. Is there some movieClip.onResize event?
View 3 RepliesIs there a way how to check if UPLOAD_COMPLETE_DATA event was not dispatched after COMPLETE in Flash?
I'm working on file uploader. It uploads file after file - after COMPLETE next file starts uploading - this is repeated for every file. On last file on COMPLETE if there is no next file allCompleteHandler is dispatched and if some errors occurs it shows that errors at once trough javascript to the user.
I handle that errors in javascript - it stores every error to variable in javascript and after all completed it shows that errors.

I have more than one Event Listener that calls a specific function, and I want to add if statements to check what event is being passed. How can I do that?I tried a simple comparison like:
if(evt == MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER)
But it will give an error because I comparing a MouseEvent object and a String.
I'm using greensocks MP3Loader to play IntroMp3. I want to dispatch a custom event when the value of the MP3Loader.soundTime property is 3 (3seconds). I've done it with an enter frame event. the problem is that it dispatches the event more then one time. what is the better way to check that the MP3Loader.soundTime property is == to 3 and dispatch my event only one time?
Code:
IntroMp3.playSound();
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,myFunction);
function myFunction(event:Event) {

Is there a way to check if an event object is == to a sprite. For example
Actionscript Code:
if(evt.target == [object Sprite])
How to access the Check-box control and its event-listeners. If a check-box(which is a movie-clip) is selected, I need AS 3.0 code in such a way that:

i just wanted to know if it is possible to check in mouse event whether the object is grabbed or not in Action Script.
For example: youtube video player is also built in flash. and when we grab the track, it just stays with the mouse pointor and when we release it. it stops wherever we left it.
I am trying to create an event listener to check that a function has completed before the next action is run. In simple terms I have a module that is opened and closed via two functions... module_open() and module_close().Each function has tween elements that must complete before the next element is processed... i.e the next function, etc.This is the code I have ( have attempted to create an event listener but I seem doing something wrong. I am not even sure that it is possible to create an event listener that checks for a function finishing before calling the next function.
Code:
function onAbout(event:Event):void {
module_close()
module_close.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onClose_Complete);

I have a movieclip(parentMC) which consists of several other movieclips(childMCs). Each childMC can trigger an event, and each event performs a different function. I want to check from my parentMC whenever there is an event triggered by any of its child.
View 3 RepliesIs their a way to check if an event listener already exists to remove it? stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickdownfunction); Basically, I want to remove the listener, but sometimes it has already been removed, so I want to check if it exists and if it does, then remove it.
View 4 Repliesi'm trying to check if a movieclip has an event listener with a sepecific function bound to it. The hasEventListener function only accepts one parameter (the listener). What i would need would be an hasEventListener that accepts a second parameter, namely the function that is bound to it.
Code:
if (!mc.hasEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER) {
mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, overHandler);
}
but what i would need is:
Code:
if (!mc.hasEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, overHandler) {
mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, overHandler);
}
because i bind more than one ROLL_OVER listeners to that mc.
How can I check if the stage contains a movieclip on a specific x and y location on the stage?I'm building a colour-guessing game. The purpose is to walk a path through a generated field of hexagons, each assigned a random colour (yellow, red, blue or green), based on what soundfile you hear. So if you hear "yellow", you have to click a yellow tile etc.But because I want it to be a path, and the colours of the tiles are randomly generated, I have to check which colours border the currently active tile. I literally have no idea how to do this. I thought this might work but it doesnt:
if ((this.tile.y == (event.currentTarget.y - 64)) != null) {
//add the colour of this tile to array
}

Trying to add event listeners to check whether my tiles are being pressed! This works excellent! They respond to the listeners BUT on the mose_down/mouse_up i cant trace the tile variables The listener functions:

I have a Button that is inside MovieClip1 which is inside MovieClip2; yet when i click the Button it doesn't dispatch Event.
View 5 Repliesi want to put a condition on the button event on (release) to check which frame of the movie symbol is stopped. something like if(frame 3 is stoped) gotoAndPlay(14).
View 3 RepliesI am working on a component where i need to register a click event on a button inside the moviclip which is inside a tilelist, can somebody point me in the right direction.Tilelist -> movieclip -> button (i need to register a click event on the button).
View 2 RepliesHow to get variable value from inside event function. Variable was declared outside event function.
var StringVar="sample";
myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, myClickReaction);
function myClickReaction (e:MouseEvent):void{
StringVar="other sample";
} trace(StringVar); /*
It gives me "sample" value and I would get "other sample" value */. That strange because if that would be normal function trace would give me good result.
var StringVar="sample";
function myClickReaction():void{
StringVar="other sample";
} myClickReaction();
trace(StringVar); /* it gives me result as I wanted to have - "other sample" value */
I know also method of passing arguments into event fuction but it not works for me as I would like to
var StringVar="sample";
myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function(e:MouseEvent){ myClickReaction(e, StringVar) },false, 0, true);
function myClickReaction (e:MouseEvent, StrVar:String):void{
StrVar="other sample";
} trace(StringVar); /* it also gives me "sample" value and I would get "other sample" value */
How to do that correctly?
when i click on a button an info box pops up (test2) then ive put a button to close it again inside (test2) called (closebtn) its the cloing it again that i cant seem to get my head around. inside (test2) the close btn is on frame 14 after a tween that makes the box pop up and i want when you press this button to goto frame 15 to start the closing tween..
heres my code so far
//-------------------buttons-----------------------------------
button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickFunction);
function clickFunction(evt:MouseEvent):void {
test.gotoAndPlay(2);

I am loading an xml configuration file and based upon values obtained from it, I am connecting to an xml socket in the server.
But I can't register for socket.onConnect Function now. I could do it in my old cold in which I didn't use a configuration file. The configuration values are loaded properly. It seems the issue is in the way, socket.OnConnect function is registered.

I want to do a separate mouse over event for every word inside a text.
or at least get the string below the mouse cursor.
Any thoughts on a good way to accomplish something along the lines of
var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://myurl.com");
var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, function(event:Event):void {
System.setClipboard(loader.data);
});
It seems as if System.setClipboard() isn't available inside an event handler (which makes at least some sense given what I know about Flash security).get it to work? or block on the URL load so that I can then call setClipboard() in the main event flow?
