ActionScript 3.0 :: Check The Existance Of Another Tile To The Left, Right, Or Above And Below, Otherwise The Tile Should Not Be Placed?

I'm making a game where you place tiles on a grid. When placing a tile, I need to check the existance of another tile to the left, right, or above and below, otherwise the tile should not be placed.. Here is a function I thought would work, that accepts one variable (the position of the tile just as it is about to be placed) :-

Basically i have a mini map and i want to check what a mini map tile is playing at.
so i tried to trace it, thinking that the error i get was only because the tile was not yet instantiated i made the following function appear after 1 second to be safe.

Still get the following error.
1119: Access of possibly undefined property currentFrame through a reference with static type flash.displayisplayObject.
I placed .x (just a test value) instead of .currentFrame and i receive no error.
I guess .currentFrame checks for the MovieClips timeline during compilation?

I'm working on a tile game and need to figure out an equation.. I have a grid which is 12x11.. when I place a tile I need to check the existance of other tiles on the same row and column and add up their values..I need to create an equation with the following variables :-
Receives a number between 1 and 132 :-
divides and/or multiplies the number into all the possible divisions of 12 in between 1 and 132 adds or subtracts the correct amount of tiles which lie either side dependant on it's position(I have drawn out the grid, and, for example, tile 66 has five tiles either side, tile 121 has 11 to it's right because it's in the bottom left hand corner)

I'm making a strategy game the uses a tile map to show information about the other players! Every tile is 50*50px and when you start the map it loads about 50 tiles and puts them together (all this from a Flash->ASP->MySQL which i managed to do on my own)
What i need to do is to make the map draggable (kinda like maps.google.com) and make every tile clickable! I can't manage to do both of these things at the same time All the tiles are in a movieclip called mapMc so by creating a big button above the visible map area and write:

i no i will use the bitMap draw function and push each 1 into a array in order. but im unsure on how to separate 1 image into seprate 1s. can any1 just give me a quick knolage burst. as soon as im told how to ill be fine coding it just getting my head araound the math(not my strongest subject, bad i no).

I am looking to take a single image and have it fill the screen....then I want the user to be able to pan and zoom in/out , and the image to be tiled into infinity. So eventually the screen will be filled with tons of little versions of this image. I can do the scrolling and stuff, but I don't know how to infinitely tile a background.

I'm working on this little game and I want a movieclip to appear when hovered over, disappear when the mouse leaves the movieclip, and the visibility should equal false by default.
I have tried almost all the MOUSE_OVER, MOUSE_DOWN, MOUSE_OUT stuff and I already have it so when its hovered over, it appears and when its hovered out, it disappears.. I can't seem to make it invisible by default though.

Is there a way of actually controlling the spacing of the tiles I tried imagePadding, but it just pads the image within the tiles. But the tiles still stay next to each other. You can see this when you do a mouse over.

i'm fiddling about with tile based games at the moment and am working from the super good tonypa tutorials. i'd like to change the source code a bit so that i can play about with placing items onto the tile grid dynamically but need some help! tile_dev2.fla.i've linked to the source file and would basically like some help to change a value in the map array so that it change the graphic displayed on the screen using a button or keypress maybe? i have a detectKey function working on the stage that is used to control the movement of the little birdy character i made. also maybe a function the change the character displayed on the screen.

I'm trying to create a simple side scrolling platform game. So, my question is, which direction should i go in? Tile based or art based?So far i have a jpg that extends far beyond the stage and if i wanted to make a real level then instead of having it 480x2000 i would need to make it more like 480x5000 at the least.Im interested in tile based but all the guides i've found are rather dated.

I am using a tile list component and an areatext component. When I click on the graphic in the list a description of the graphic comes up in the text area. No problems so far. However I want to view a large image of the graphic at the same time as the text. I will attach one graphic so you can see how they show up. I will attach the .swf file also. You can see in the middle of the two areas (where the green square is) this is where I want the larger graphic to appear.

Okay, since my stage doesn't take up the whole window when viewing it on the Internet, is there a way to tile a picture in the background? So no matter how big someone's screen is, in the background they will see a tiled picture.

If possible I would like to tile an image or MovieClip along a line using the standard moveTo() and lineTo() methods, The lines are directional so need to show something similar to >>>>>>>>>>>>>. The lines can be at any angle, so using drawRect() with beginBitmapFill() isn't an option. Also if possible I would like to have the lines animated. I need to have a spark list that switches between VerticalLayout and TileLayout depending on the user choice. The most obvious way is create two lists with separate layouts and then use States and the "includeIn" attribute. However, this is not a very good solution because I would like to keep the same items in the view when switching (if user scrolled to item 100 in the VerticalLayout and then switches to Tile, I would like item 100 to be visible immediately in the new layout, instead of starting at the first item).So I tried using 2 layouts on the same list and using the "includeIn" solution.[code]
