View 1 RepliesI have small issue in as3. I am load "mainmenu.swf" file into "main.swf". through loader class. so now "main.swf" is parent "mainmenu.swf" file children how can call "main.swf " variable & function from "mainmenu.swf" .
View 2 Repliesi have some actionscript that makes a
ExternalInterface.call('someFunction');
call.is it possible to reference the html object that made the call to someFunction directly using the ExternalInterface.call call?
Assume that the object that makes the call also has some Callbacks (via ExternalInterface.addCallback) that are accessible via javascript.
Currently:
Actionscript source
ExternalInterface.call("someFunction");
ExternalInterface.addCallback("someCallback",someASfunction);

I have two classes a main and one controlling a cloud graphic going on the stage. In the main class I am creating an instance of the cloud, adding it to the stage with an array and with a for loop I am setting the x speed (vx). I have noticed that if I set the vx in the cloud class and reference it directly then it does not work (clouds are drawn for a millisecond then a blank movie). I have to initialize the cloud.vx value in the main class to get it to work. Why can I not just pull the vx value from the cloud class without setting it to a value in the main class?
Main class
Code:
package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;

Does anyone know the best method to trigger a function in the root from a dynamically loaded movieclip (loaded using addchild) using AS3, I understand targeting root is not the best way to do this?
View 2 RepliesMy flash project is structured as follows, with the nested external swfs being loaded to clip holders using loadMovie():
home.swf
|--sponsors.swf
|--educators.swf
In home.swf, I've defined a text box with instance name contentWindow_txt, and assigned its path to _root.cw_txt. Now, when I type the following anywhere in home.swf:
Code:
_root.cw_txt.htmlText = "testing!";
The dynamic text box contentWindow_txt will display "testing!" when the swf loads. Unfortunately, when I make the same call in sponsors.swf, I get nothing. Is there something about external swfs or variable inheritance I don't know?
I have some variables declared on the root timeline that I need to access from some MovieClips. In AS2 I would do something like this _parent.myVar from within my MovieClip. I intend on getting fully up to speed with AS3 but right now I need a quick fix.on the root timeline I have a variable : var myHitTest:Boolean = false;My MovieClip needs to access this var so I tried it several ways listed here. I've had no success.
parent.myHitTest:Boolean
root.myHitTest:Boolean
Stage.myHitTest:Boolean

I'm new to Actionscript 3, just started working with it after years of working with AS2,
What I'm trying to do at the moment is to change a variable that's located in the root from a function,
Something like this:
var myVariable:String = "String test";
function testFunction():void
{
myVariable = "new String";
[Code]...
Anyways, I've been trying to figure this out for quite some time.Let's say I have my document class. I'm guessing the document class can correspond to the first thing that gets run? (such as the "main" function in most C++/low level languages).If I set a variable in it:var myNumber:Number = 10;how would Iaccess: "myNumber" from other objects in my stage?Like a movieclip on my stage for example.If I go inside that movieclip into the movieclip's first frame, how would I say:trace(TheDocumentClass.myNumber);Another similar question is, what about the actual stage frame?If I click on frame 1 of my stage, set a variable:var aNumber:Number = 5;how would I access it from other objects?In my movieclip's first frame, what would I put?trace(root.aNumber); ?trace(stage.aNumber); ?
View 9 RepliesHow can I access variables defined on root from a loaded movieclip? The loaded movieclip path can differ, so I cannot get to root like parent.parent, for example. I thought something like this.root.varName may work, but it obviously doesn't.
View 3 RepliesJust need to figure out how to pass root level variable to a movie clip which contains a dynamic text box to display the passed variable. How is this possible? I usually use global variables when i was coding in AS2...but it appears this feature is dropped in AS3.
View 4 RepliesIn AS3, how can you access a relative variable within a specific movieclip on the stage?I have a test file that changes the variable "myVar" in one of the displayobject movieclips drawn on the stage. I want to simply trace the current value of this displayobject's myVar for additional purposes.In AS2, you would achieve this by calling the instance name and then the variable contained within.Assuming 3 movieclips existed on the stage named Container1¯, Container2¯ and Cotainer3¯trace(_root.myContainer2.myVar);// returns Hello which is value of variable "myVar" within the movieclip instance named "Container2".How would you do this in AS3?[code]
View 6 RepliesI have a function that works great. All excep the inefficient way I have to do if checks just to change a movieclip name.
People = function(num) {
if (num ==1) {
Person1._x = lft_rght;

View 1 RepliesI'm working on my first flash ASP project and have a question about passing variables from flash to an asp page. Can I write a call to an asp page with variables in the url?
Code:
saveEntry_lv.sendAndLoad("save_student.asp?student_id="+userID+"&login_name="+loginName+"&password=&user_name="+friendlyName, saveEntry_lv, "POST");
It's not working and I don't know if it's because I've got something big wrong here or if the syntax is bad.
This game I'm working on, requires Flash to call variables from PHP. The thing is, each PHP file is generated so that it has a unique ID. How do I tell flash to call these variables, each time a new PHP file is created (which carries the same information)?
View 1 Repliesdoes anyone know if it's possible to use variables to call objects from your library onto stage like this:I have an object in my library called Level01 as is it's linkage
Actionscript Code:
var MyMap:String = "Level01";addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,LoadMap);function LoadMap(event:Event) { var myLVL:MovieClip = new MyMap();// how do you use the variable
[code].....
I was wondering if ActionScript had some way to call functions and classes from variables, like they do in PHP:
function funcname() {
print "Potatoes come from tree";
}
$function = "funcname";
print $function; // Prints out "funcname"
$$function(); // Prints out "Potatoes come from tree"
In case you don't know the syntax for PHP, you should know that anything perpended with a $-symbol is a variable.
ActionScript [code]...
how to make it run a function based on var's value?[code]...
I've created a multi-framed flash file that's calling multiple variables from an external php (text) file. I'm using an onload command to do this and for some reason the variables seem to "disappear" once I leave the first frame (where the onload and load commands are)I'm figuring that my problem has to do with 'variables scope'. I've read the article on this site but I don't know actionscript well enough to proceed.I ultimately want to do away with using multiple frames by using multidemsional arrays and for...next loops, but this is what I have to work with (for now). I'm going crazy trying to get THIS to work.

View 4 RepliesSituation:
- We have a Flash application located on a SAP EP (let's say ep.x.com)
- We have a SAP ABAP Application (Webservices) on a SAP WebAS
server (abap.x.com)
- Clarification: This is not about Flash islands / but a normal Flash application communicating with WebAS ABAP via WebServices
Problem: Due to the changed security policy in Flash 10 this scenario does no longer work.
- A crossdomain policy file on root level cannot be deployed on root level
- The WebServices http/s headers cannot be modified, since the WebServices are generated by the WebAS IDE.
Comment: Technically there is a way to patch a WebAS ABAP,but this is not a practical / acceptable way in a normal SAP WebAS infrastructure.
Conclusion:- The above scenario (Flash from EP content / WebAS ABAP as backend) is a quite normal scenario in the SAP world.
- SAP / Adobe always features the close relationship between their technologies.
Question:- What could we do?
- How does the Visual Composer works around that problem?
I have a root stage, and a MC that is called from the root stage.Now from that MC, i will called in another MC2, and I wanted to placed the MC in the center of the stage. The reason I could not use normal ADDED_TO_STAGE at MC and define the center is because MC is not place in the exact position of the root stage (as in x, y=0). So if I would target MC2 at MC stage center, it would not be the exact center of the root stage/screen.How can I called the root stage properties rather than adding MC2 into the stage?
