ActionScript 3.0 :: Do The Equivalent Of What Photoshop Refers To As "transform>>perspective" In Flash

Nov 11, 2009

I've noticed there is something in AS3 that allows "shearing or skewing" of an object, but I was wondering if it's possible to do the equivalent of what Photoshop refers to as "transform>>perspective"

Flash :: "Show Transform Controls" Equivalent?

Mar 16, 2010

I've been using Adobe Flash CS3 & CS4, and I still find it ridiculously hard to navigate around that Program sometimes, mainly when I have to deal with a Pre-made Flash website that needs Editing.Allot of people Label layers, Symbols, etc... poorly, so it's hard to find your way around.I would like to know if these is any Equivalent of "Show Transform Controls" (from Adobe Photoshop), in Adobe Flash CS4

I have loads of Layers to deal with, and the only way I can get to edit the Layer, is by double clicking on them, then I go to it's timeline and settings.Most of the times I can't even see some of these Layers/Buttons, as they appear invisible on the Stage/Preview Screen.How can I more easily Work with my Layers in Flash CS4?It would be allot easier, if I could click on the Layer in the Pallet, and see an outline of where it is on the Stage.Or if I could edit the settings of a Layer, by clicking something in the Layers Palette.

I am also trying to figure out how I can change the color of an image to Black/White, I only know how to do this with the Motion Tween Option, that gradually changes the color over those given seconds. I don't want an animation, just permanent color change.Also when I am moving a Object in one layer,when I exit and view a different layer, I see that the "Shared" object also moved there too, which I do not want.Is there any way to unlink these by chance?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Swf Refers To Positions Of MC's In Itself?

Aug 14, 2004

ok I am having what I think is a targeting problem.I'm loading a swf into a blank container inside another movie (main). The AS in the loaded swf refers to positions of MC's in itself _x & _y etc.However once it is loaded, those positions are not true... ex. if the center of the swf is 200 by itself depending in where it is loaded, it might become 400 or any other number - reletive to the main movie's stage (I hope Im being clear).I need the AS in the loaded swf to refer to itself (x/y values relative to its OWN stage). So how do I target that? _root.MC.containerMC doesnt seem to work, but is this on the right track? Basically when an swf is loaded into another, does its _root now become the main timeline of the movie its loaded into???

Flash :: MovieClip In Perspective?

Jun 1, 2011

I would like to have a MovieClip that has a bit of depth. I can't use rotationX, rotationY or rotationZ because I have to use Flash CS3. The first image is what I have now, a flat movieclip. The second is what I should have.

I already tried using a matrix, but that didn't work. I posed a question about it, and there somebody sugested that I should use a 3D engine to get the result I want.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Get Into The Event Handler 'this' Refers To XmlLoader - Not The Class

Ok, so here's the problem. What happens in the above, is that I call 'loadTheXML()', it loads the xml file into xmlLoader and then runs the event handler 'onLoad'. My problem is here: once I get into the event handler 'this' refers to xmlLoader, not the class. Therefore, I have no way of calling wannaCallThis(). How do I call a member function of the class from inside the eventHandler?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Method In A Class File That Refers To Itself - The This Keyword Is Not Working?

Sep 27, 2011

Code:

package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.display.Graphics;
public class Rail extends MovieClip

[code]...

this is a simple Rail class, what I am trying to do is take the for loop out of the timeline and build into the Rail class itself. How do I refer to the Rail class itself within the method? If I am doing this the wrong way please let me know! Would it be better if I created another class, say a "RailSpacing" class and build the for loop into the contructor into that?

Also, if I wanted to add depth to the rail(textures or something else to make it look real) and still be able to change the color without transforming the entire rail instance, what could I do ActionScript wise. I have come to the conclusion the only way to do this is creating a multilayered movieclip and target the base object and not the highlight/ shading layer.

Also, if I created a nice graphic/movieclip and exported it for ActioSncript, how can I find the class file and add too it? Is this even possible? Is it possible to draw something that is detailed and export it and then add some methods?

Flash :: Get Visible Size Of DisplayObject With Perspective Projection

May 2, 2010

The following is entirely a math question. As we know, PerspectiveProjection delivers perspective transformations in 3D represented by the interdependent values of fieldOfView and focalLength according to the following formula:

focalLength = stageWidth/2 * (cos(fieldOfView/2) / sin(fieldOfView/2)

Q: How to get the visible on-screen size of the DisplayObject (Cube on the above-linked image) to which PerspectiveProjection has been applied? A more thorough description and illustrative code on the issue in ActionScript 3 lacks functionality for visible bounds of DisplayObject.

Flash Vs HTML5 For Facebook Games - A Business Perspective?

Feb 17, 2011

I'm in the planning and learning stages of building a facebook game. For the past year my foremost question has been, "Flash or HTML5?". Rather than try to decide the answer to that, I thought I would give the markets for both some more time to mature and learn how to design the game and how to manage the server element.

Over the last year I've devoured thousands of pages of text concerning game development and business development, along with getting a solid footing in AS3, python, php, C# and javascript. So, I'm most interested in picking a system that is best for the job rather than, for example, starting off assuming the game logic will be in python because that's what I enjoy most.

The game is at its core a strategy game and I plan to use many mobile phones extensively in addition to the standard facebook "invite all your friends" features. The graphics won't be flashy and will in most places be rather flat because of the thematic elements, rather than 3d isometric like farmville or other flash facebook games.

So from a technological perspective HTML5 doesn't have any real advantage that I can see over flash, and neither does flash have any real advantage over HTML5. If you see that one has a clear advantage over the other then I would be happy to hear that in your comments.
I have five primary questions that I need your opinion on:

1) Which platform makes better sense for building a facebook game considering the future market trends?

2) Which platform has better inherent elements to help prevent cheating? (like flash being compiled into a .swf vs javascript being in plain text)

3) Which platform would be most attractive to the best game development talent for future hires?

4) Which platform is easiest to take technology from one game and use it for other future games? (like developing isometric graphics in flash)

5) Which platform is easiest to develop with a team?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Create A Dynamic Perspective Shadow System In Flash 9?

Aug 22, 2006

I'm attempting to create a dynamic perspective shadow system in Flash 9 (AS 3) that would have the following constructor:

ActionScript Code:
public function PShadow(mcClipToShadow:MovieClip, nAngle:Number = 45, nDistance:Number = 20, nAlpha:Number = 90, nBlur:Number = 10, nXOffset:Number = 0, nYOffset:Number = 0)
{
//do stuff
}

The function would duplicate the mcClipToShadow MovieClip to use as the base shadow, apply a 100% black tint, set the alpha to nAlpha, and apply a blur filter with Blur X = Blur Y = nBlur. Then a transformation Matrix would be applied that would skew the shadow sprite so that it was cast in the nAngle direction with length nDistance.

The only part that I'm having trouble with is solving the math for the Matrix. I've played a lot with the swf's in your tutorial to better understand how the matrix manipulates things, but I'm still having troubles doing the math properly. My goal is to simply plugin the variables from the constructor into the Matrix constructor and the proper shadow will result.

Flash :: Photoshop CS4 Open Simultaneous?

Everytime Photoshop CS4 is open it will cause Flash Cs4 to Crash. I can work in Flash without any issues until Photoshop is opened. Flash will usually crash in under 5 min with Photoshop open. I have tested this over and over and it is Photoshop causing Flash to crash. Does not matter whether I am running the 32 or 64 bit version of Photoshop. I am starting to believe it is a memory issue but I am not sure or how to fix if it is.I have tested the memory and it passed all tests. This is really killing my production time.
