ActionScript 3.0 :: Events And Listeners - Load Info From A File And Make Blue Balls Rotate Around Given Points?
Nov 30, 2010
I'm trying to make a program that grabs info from a text file then uses the info in the file to assign where certain balls will rotate (eventually I'll configure it to looking like dots rotating around an invisible sphere)Now, I can do these two things separately, load info from a file and make blue balls rotate around given points... but I've been tripping up hard on making them work together, and I think my problem is in how I handle the events and events listeners to work with the code, you'll need to start a new flash AS3 file Then on the stage create a circle with the oval tool convert the circle to a symbol named "BlueCircle" and name the linkage class as "BlueCircle" then paste this code...
Code:
var longLatLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
longLatLoader.dataFormat=URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES;
longLatLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoaded);[code]....
I'm trying to basically make an arrow in the middle rotate till it points at the button you rolled over. Each button gives a value for "rot" when you roll over it. 0 degrees is up. I dunno if that's important or not. It's probably always up = 0... heh. Anyway this is the a/s for the "arrow" in the middle. It's instance is arcpoint. Here it is:
[Code]...
I know some of this stuff could probably be shortened but this is how I got it working so far. The problem is the second half of the a/s. The part where it picks a direction clockwise or counter. If it goes clockwise (which I had it working fine at the start) it points at the button fine.But the problem kicks in when it tries to go clounterclockwise. It will always pass the button and point down and flicker back and forth.
Edit: Ok I'm surprised people are even looking at this at 1 am but thats beside the point of this edit. I think it has something to do with the else if statements conditions overlapping so that's what makes it wiggle back and forth. Then again I could be wrong. I'm trying to analyze the conditions but my brain hurts and it's early (or late...).
I have a rotaing menu that loads in images from an xml file, I would also like it to load in text info from the same xml file to the left side of the images that load in. In my main .fla have created a movieclip and called it 'textInfo' and inside that I have two dynamic text fields called 'headerText' and 'bodyText' where I want to load the text in. this is what I am using to loading in the text in my actionscript, is this correct?
Jeez how hard can this be? I am giving up for now, but perhaps one of you can tell me why I can't simply load an image into flash and rotate it using AS...[note: image is 700x700 pixels in size]Oh it loads all right, but it will not rotate around its center. I know it loads the image in at the top left corner, but I thought the following code would fixt that:
I followed the 3D Carousel tutorial from gotoandLearn http:[url].... I was able to put in my images and change the features to how I want, but for the life of me can't figure out how to make the thing auto rotate.
var tw:GTween = new GTween(container, 0.8, {rotationY:targetRotation}, ease:Exponential.easeOut}); tw.autoRotation = true;
But when I added it it just gave me errors and the carousel would not load.
Im working on a racegame Actionscript 3. When the car is moving I want it to rotate the wheels. The problem is, is that I have 2 movie clips in 1 movieclip (front wheel and backwheel). Is there a way to code 2 center rotate points?
I have a number of random balls bouncing around the stage.What I am having difficulty with is making them bounce off each other when they run into each other.The balls bounce off the walls just fine, but I can't seem to figure out the hitTest thing.
This bounces the ball off each 'wall'. how to add more balls (using actionscript - ie not copying and pasting on the stage) and to make the balls bounce off eachother too?
I wish to have a numeric stepper which allows me to choose the no of balls I want, then when i press the button I want all these balls to fall down..but when I press the button the x no of balls are generated but not falling down.

im following some suggestions to cut my flash website into a few sections to make preloading a bit easier. so all i want is to make a small round ring rotate as long as the file is loading. so i looked and followed a lot tutorials but all the preloaders tutorials are much more compliceted then i need. they all have persentige sowing, and a bar that is filling according to how much the file has loaded, and colors changing etc. so i tried to take from the tutorials wat i need for my simple preloader to work but i get stuck.i built the animation of the rotating ring, but i get stuck with the actions i need to make the animation work as long as the file is working. i called my ring animation "circularloader". here is a image of the page with the ring:
This simple code: var loa:Loader = new Loader(); loa.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.INIT, onLoaderInit); loa.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoaderComplete); loa.loadBytes(someByteArray); Sometimes works, but mostly doesn't. Neither 'onLoaderInit' nor 'onLoaderComplete' fire. 'someByteArray' is always a valid ByteArray, stored in a local SharedObject
I have a base class, and I created a class to connect to C# to which it sends and receives data. Now I want the base class to know when the Connector Class has received data and to get that data. so custom events are the answer right. But no matter how much documentation I've read, I can't get my head around this. My current class, if I extend EventDispatcher the base class can pick up fine but I need it to get the data that it received as well. So I extended Event and I've put a listener on my base class but it's not picking up the event (in fact although it's compiling it seems its breaking my connection to the C# as my C# client gets an error).
Should my connector class be extending Event or EventDispatcher. Then if it extends Event, I need to create another class to dispatch the event? someone said to me I don't need events as the callback will handle it, but my callback is in my connector class not the base class.
In my SWF, I have a movie clip that I wish to play itself immediately after the site loads. I have two other movie clips that are required to play once the first movie clip has reached frame 13. This is a function that I would like to repeat, as the first movie clip (followed by the other two) will be required to play the others after certain mouse events within the movie.
PHP Code: hello_button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, click_handler); function click_handler(event_object:MouseEvent) { /* Do something with this event */ }
While others import class objects and operate under package headings when describing how to add listeners and send out dispatchers.
I made a custom loader to replace the urlLoader and even tried a replacement for the _loader using the same custom event.Works great for the first addEventListener:
Code: urlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onSwfLoaded).But stops on the second addEventListener.If I just apply the custom event to the following...
Code: _loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoaderInit); VERSUS
Code: _loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoaderInit);it works just fine.As soon as I use it on the contentLoaderInfo line, it throws that type error cannot convert CustomEvent to Event error.I also double checked that my custom event listener was overriding clone()properly and it looks like it does.
I have two datagrids which should do everything synchronic except the data entry. I already managed to make them scroll synchronic by using the scroll event. My question is now how to select a item of a datagrid only programmatically, and how to get the mouseover effect and underlining the corresponding row with a bright blue color?
I'm working on a web app built in Flash AS3. At a high level - the app has a main screen, and several "modal dialog"-type screens that pop-up to manage various user interactions. (This is a similar pattern I use in most of the apps I develop...) Typically - when the user clicks a UI control on the dialog screen (e.g., button, text box, slider bar, etc.) - the main screen needs to react, or manage the consequences. It seems like there are two general ways to handle this: Have the dialog screen dispatch events that the main screen listens for Allow the dialog screen to call functions in the main screen when those controls are clicked (which requires that the dialog screen maintain a reference to the main screen, and that the functions in the main screen are public)
In general - I understand that one of the key benefits of the first method is that the dialog screen isn't so tightly coupled; it's only responsibility is to broadcast the event. This would allow me to more easily use the dialog class in other contexts, or applications. But for many RIAs I develop - a particular screen is SO SPECIFIC to the the application that there's no chance I'd ever reuse it in another application. So, the "easy re-use" benefit is minimal. So - if you eliminate that benefit - which method is actually better? (More performant, less resource-intensive?) For example - if I use events, then Flash needs to manage many listeners for events that may never occur. So - it might be more efficient if the dialog window could call a function in the main screen directly, instead of dispatching an event.
for some reason the hitTest I have setup in the attached file seems to work in relation with the blue box's that surround objects and not with the actually objects. Anyways I'm pretty sure that it has to do with the border.
So I have this flash app I'm making that uses a URL load to load a bunch of plot points from an address. When the loader finishes, it send the data to a plotter function. the plotter function clears the graphics in a shape called graphLine. It then draws a line from one plot point to another using the lineTo function. Basically every 3 seconds it makes this request and redraws the screen and updates the value of a textfield to the current y value. In flex builder 3, it works great in debug mode. The screen updates just fine. However, when I make the release build and test it out in a browser, it loads the data fine, but will not draw it until I stop the graphing process. Any thoughts on this one? Here's the code for the graphing function
Created an mp3 player that works fine, but i need the track name, artist name, track timer, to be shown aswell?and i dont have a clue how do go about doing this.
i am really trying to use AS3 but having many difficulties using common tasks that seemed straightforward before. i want to find out the totalframes of an SWF that has been externally loaded using the load method.[code]i tried using trace(ldr.totalframes) just to test it but continue to get errors when i do.
I have something in mind like this: [URL] so each time, when the mouse is over each state, different information should show up in the right side box with different information. How should I implement this? should I draw the right side information box as picture, and then write a script to ask information to display when mouse is on certain state, is this a movie clip?
how I would be able to add listeners to the stage using a for loop. currently my code looks like this, it is being called when the document opens.
var i:Number; for(i=1;i<8;i++){ thumbselect.thumb"+i+".addEventListener(MouseEvent .CLICK, images"+i+"); }
That is not working. I tried quoting the whole thing, that did not work. I did trace it like this: trace(' thumbselect.thumb"+i+".addEventListener(MouseEvent .CLICK, images"+i+")')
this was my first application iam using flash ,whatever i created is working faster in my local machine while iam upload that in website its becoming very slow in loading that .
I got a .XML that is "created" with PHP from a MySql-database. I then load the .XML data into Flash. What i want to do now is the tricky part(for me)
This is how my XML looks right now (more will be added):
<?xml version="1.0" ?> <entries> <entry>
[Code]....
And when i add another Entry into the XML i want the SWF to auto input.
I think i would somehow loop trough everything and insert to variables, but how and then how do i make flash add textfields for every entry and childnode in a nice way. I want to be able to scroll this later on.
I am currently working with Flex 4. I successfully use custom preloader by s:application ... preloader="path"..., but i want the preloader to load external file as well, can it do that? How can i call the variables in the preloader?
