View 3 RepliesAs the topic indicates, i'm trying to create a curved path and make a movieclip follow that path up and down with a bit of rotation.
This could easily be done animating the timeline, however I need this to be done through pure AS - as when I mouseOver the MC, the MC need to stop and go to the top. [url]...
So I've created a script where a mc is clicked on and the player can draw a path using the mouse. I'm trying to figure out how I can get the mc to follow the path drawn out by the player's mouse and when the player clicks again, it erases all of the path.my code is below
Code:
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;[code].....
I have 4 cubes with Papervision and i like the camera to fly thru the 4 cubes, how can i set this up?/
View 0 RepliesI am making an application, that will let you enter your name and then a car will drive each letter of your name in the sand. I have made a car and my artist made letters with vector graphics as a single line (.ai). But now I don't get how to make an algorithm that will drive through the lines of each letter. My first solution would be to make an editor, where you can create path, but I don't have that much time. Is there a chane to make path from vector graphics so that the care can drive through it?

View 1 Repliesi want make a clip follow a path, i want that it follow a path in move and rotation.
View 5 RepliesI'm trying to get this xml 'image_loader' (similar to kde wipes) rotation thing working for this page i'm working on. i have to make some adjustments with the path to the files according to how it is going to work on this site i'm working on. i'm not sure how or where to change the path in the actionscript to get to the path.
i've included a folder called '- example working without paths' which is to show how it is supposed to look. this works when everything is in one folder. but, when i setup the site structure the swf can't find the xml or the images to load...so i'm not really sure how to fix it. the 'root.hml' in the root folder represents the main html file that i'm using for the site.
I'm trying to make a circular motion path using Senocular's tutorial here.What I want is a box to move around a circle motion path that is created in AS when the user presses a button. However I'm having trouble decifering all of Sencular's code because there is a lot of advanced stuff that he puts in that I don't want and I'm having trouble getting started.

View 6 Repliesmake my hero go back to his shelter when he finds some food or when he approaches an enemy. It looks like this:
1. The hero is in the shelter.
2. The hero is hungry.
3. The hero leaves the base to hunt some animals down.
4. The hero is full and is headed back to the shelter.
5. He moves in the direction of where the base is.
So, once again, how do I make my hero go back to where he came from? How do I make my hero's x and y position to fit the way back home?
I have a variable that will change,
and i want to make it my movieclip path, example[code]...
Now yes i'm getting started to AS3 but I still have a lot of blanks in my mind.For example in as2
ActionScript Code:
trace(this);
// Outputs : _level0.myMc.theContent.instance15.instance36
But in AS3 i'm getting just the ".name". Ex:

I have embedded a external swf in a movieclip called "container". In the external swf is a movieclip "black_rectangle". How do I have to write the path to this rectangle? My version doesnt't work and i have no idea why not
[Code]...
I know how to do motion guides, but now I also want to control this movieclip with actionscript code, so that I modify the x and y properties, but STILL restrict the position of the movieclip only to that motion guide. I see that once I modify the x or y properties, the movieclip jumps off the motion guide
View 1 Repliesusing a variable in a path to a MovieClip.
I have a menu with 4 tabs. When I click on one I want it to open and the previous one to close.
I'm storing the previous tab as a variable (_previousTab) but am having trouble adding the variable to the path to the MovieClip of the previous tab. The error Flash gives me is:
TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.
at MenuRun/menuOpen()
[Code]....
If I replace mainframe[_previousTab] with the name of the MovieClip it works fine. I'm thinking it's something to do with the variable being a String perhaps?
how to make a simple ball follow an oval motion path? Think of a molecule spinning (and looping) around a nucleus. This was five seconds work in previous versions where you could draw the motion guide then simply attach an object to it and say "orient to path" but I can't seem to find how to do it in CS4.
View 3 RepliesI want to make a simple frame by frame path branching game. The problem is that I know that writing in and filling in EVERY FRAME going all along for EVERY CHOICE PATH would be an insanely tedious amount of work. My basic project is reminiscent of japanese visual novels, and I've been looking for turtorials to help me with this style of role playing games, but all of the tutorials concentrated on the adventure RPGs. : Being a novice at Actionscript, past working buttons to make it go to the next frame and stopping it, I was wondering if its possible to make a choice you make earlier in the game affect it later. Such as, you keep following the game normally afterwards, but depending on your choice you'll go to a different scene later. basically, this way I'd like to eliminate the need to make two duplicate paths with only minor variances to show the changes for some choices. Another thing that I would like to know if its possible to do, though this is less important, as I have yet to look for these things and I'm sure I can find them but a save/load system, easy to find I'm sure. And an unlocking system. Something so that once they hit a certain CG I can unlock it in a 'memories' menu on a main screen.

I'm trying pause a video netstream within a MovieClip with a button (ppBtn). This works when I hardcode the movieclip path (like: etc. media2.ns.togglePause() ), but when I use a string in the path to access the MC's netstream it doesn't work. I've tried serveral ways to cast the string to a movieclip.name but I always trace a "null" or "undefined" of the mcpathI've tried to cast the string as a MC in different ways without any luck:
this[myString]
MovieClip(myString)
mySting as MovieClip()
[code].....
I want to drag a object along a curved path , the curve is made up of 50 points(x,y) and I want to display the corresponding (x,y) coordinate of MC.
View 1 RepliesHow could I do: To attach a movieclip (e.g. 'footsteps'), along a path (other movieclip).
That would be within a interval for attaching one movieclip at a time.
I would need rotation, i.e, the footsteps, should rotate according with the path direction.
If I want to change a set of movieclips that all have the same name except they end in a different number i.e
movieclip1
movieclip2
movieclip3
whats the correct actionscript to refer to a movieclips path in terms of the name plus a numerical variable i.e
movieclip + var
so I can cycle through each one by altering the variable.
something like
var x = 1;
_root."movieclip" + x.othermovieclip.gotoAndPlay(1);
my attempts don't seem to have worked!
I've been going through the Transitions Between External SWF tutorials and all is going well except I wish to situate my buttons in a movieclip and not on the main timeline as the tutorial teaches. The tutorial does point out; 'If your buttons are not located on the main timeline, you will have to change the path to the container movieclip. If your buttons are not on the main timeline, you must change container to the appropriate path.'Does anyone know how I'd do that to the below code? (for some reason the code tags were messing up so I've just copy and pasted.)

I am fresher to as2, I'm doing a game, in that i need to rotate the movieclip in a oval path(not in circular path)
View 2 RepliesI am wondering why the AS3 movieClip target path are soo complicated? I'm loading a simple external swf that contain a movieClip that I want to play with. But I can't find the proper syntaxe to call this movieClip..
var swfLoader:Loader = new Loader();
holderSWF.addChild(swfLoader);
var externalSWF:URLRequest=new URLRequest("externalFile.swf");
swfLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event .COMPLETE, loadProdComplete);
swfLoader.load(externalSWF);

I am trying to create something like the rollovers on this site [URL]. Is there a way that I can have a motion path and then have a mc duplicate itself around that path.
View 3 Replieshow to make a counter clockwise circle using Senocular's Path class?
For example, if I start a half-circle on the left (9 o'clock) it will go to 6 o'clock then 3 o'clock. Right now it goes for 9 o'clock to 12 then 3.
Works great clockwise... but I can't get it to draw in the other direction. I tried messing with the math inside the class and it exploded!
