ActionScript 3.0 :: Get Code/procedure For Opening Pop-up Using JavaScript?
Jan 9, 2009
I am using Adobe flash CS3 and working with it using ActionScript 3.0.I need code (or) procedure for developing an application in such a way that, When I click on a button present on the stage, I should get execute an HTML file(say,Hello.html) which is present in the local hard-disk in the same folder as with the flash file. I had developed HTML file and flash file. I am attaching the JavaScript code which is getting executed in flash:
var js:URLRequest=new URLRequest();
js.url="javascript:window.open('AddForm.html','popper1','width=540,hei ght=360');newWindow.focus();
void(0);";
button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,openPopUp);

I'm looking for a workaround to the "AdSense does not let you choose only images but no flash" issue. I'm rather a newbie to JS, but is there any way for one script to prevent other scripts embedded in a site from detecting the presence of the flash plugin? Even if it doesn't work with AdSense, it would be nice to know if there's a hack to do this that might work in other settings.By the way, I suppose I wouldn't care if it failed to work on IE or obsolete browser versions.

In javascript, I have a variable which holds a pdf in base64 (the pdf is generated in flex and passed to js). I want to open it in the browser (ie I want the browser to display the open/save dialog box letting the user open or save the pdf).
I am using Data URI which works fine in some browsers, but is not supported in IE 6/7:
function getPdf(pdf) {
window.open("data:application/pdf;base64," +pdf);
}
How can I get this PDF to open in IE6 and 7? I've read about MHTML as an alternative to data uri but I don't think it can do what I need, or can it? For now I just need to open pdfs but in the future I will probably need to add support for xls (MS Excel) files too. Currently I'm using Flash's Filereference.save to let the user save the pdf to the disk then he can open it, but the client is insisting on giving the user a choice to open it automatically rather than forcing him to save it first.

With all the recent hype about JavaScript and HTML5 replacing Flash, I wanted to know - How would it be possible to protect client-side js code? Of course, it is possible to obfuscate it, but that would only make it a little harder. Also, for games which submit high scores to the server, wouldn't it be incredibly easy to modify those scores before they are sent to the server? I know even Flash files can be decompiled, but they can be obfuscated and flash decompilation is not as easy as modifying data in JS - could be done easily using a plugin such as Firebug. I'd like to know everyone's views on this.

is it somehow possible to open a HTML popup window from within Flash and have it receive text data from Flash which should be printed ... and this all only in AS3 and Javascript (since no server-side scripting is available)?

I know that there is no implementation of File Save Dialog in JavaScript as of now, but it can be done with Flash. I am looking for a lib or source code in Flash that could do it for me so that I can call it via JavaScript. JavaScript knows the data and filename, I just want to open a file save dialog.

I have a few Flash objects in my html page, and all these Flash objects respond to mouseOver and mouseOut.
On mouseOver, the Flash objects will play a movieclip in place. On MouseEvent.CLICK, I would like the Flash objects to make the html page create a new iFrame with embedded .mov movie file in a lightbox effect.
I can't seem to get it to work. I have tried ExternalInterface.call(), navigatetoURL(), I have tried simulating a click event in javascript. Essentially, I want a mouse-click that is captured in Flash to open a jquery/javascript-lightbox in an iframe.

- I made a flash-based website using Flash CS3 and then embedded the file into a blank html page with Dreamweaver cs3.-All my buttons, linking, and content were made in Adobe Flash CS3 using ActionScript 2.0 (AS2).The issue I am encountering is that when i click on some buttons that have get URL codes, they will not load the html files assigned to the As2 code of the button. The html files are supposed to load in a separate browser window for each html page assigned to each button. The html files are located within subfolders in my Main Site Root Folder.All my AS2 code is Object-based; meaning I applied it directly to my button symbols.

I've imported two styles of the Trebuchet MS font into the library. One without selecting the 'bold' checkbox in the Library Panel upon importing and the second with the 'bold' checkbox selected.If I look in the font list of the property panel I now see the two embedded fonts (with asterisks behind their names):
Trebuchet MS Regular*
Trebuchet MS Bold*
The first textfield uses Trebuchet MS Regular* and off course shows the text in plain style.The second uses Trebuchet MS Bold* and I would expect the text to turn immediately bold, but it is still in regular style when I select Trebuchet MS Bold*. In both cases (Trebuchet MS Regular* and Trebuchet MS Bold*) I would have to select 'B' in the properties panel to make the text bold. Which in the second case seems a bit too much to me. Why still have to click 'B' when I already have Trebuchet MS Bold* selected?
Too make it more weird: I could also import Trebuchet MS with Italic selected, choose Trebuchet MS Italic* (which would make the text 'regular' at first) and click 'B' to also make the text bold. why Flash works this way with imported fonts?(I know I should/could use TextFormat, but I'm curious about this other approach and why Flash works this unlogical way with embedded fonts)

Is there any procedure yet for importing vector formats AutoCad dxf or Adobe Illustrator ai into Flash using Actionscript 3?You can manually import them from the Flash File menu.Seems like there should be a method to dynamically import dxf or ai drawings with Actionscript.

I have made a class that Pops-up a window that contains a panel with a textbox and two buttons, one for accepting, other for cancelling. It should work as a prompt in which you enter some text, and then if you like the changes, you accept, else, you cancel and the text you entered is discarded.
The thing I'm not sure how to handle is how to receive the text, once the user presses 'Accept', from the class I want to receive it from.
So, the approach I took is a bit cumbersome: firstly, when launching the popup, I associate with it a function (called onResult() in the code) from the 'class that launches', which will be called after the user presses the 'Accept' or 'Cancel' buttons; secondly, to get the text that the user inserted in the box, I keep a reference to it public from my class.
have a look at the code here: [URL]
I've also programmed in Android before, and the approach there would be much cleanier, just putting the text result from the popup inside a bundle inside an intent, and receiving it from the launched class. Here, I have to pass functions and such, which I don't like at all (although it works!).

[code]I added MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER event listener to the 'back' sprite, but it doesn't get called, because the 'text' element is in front of it.I want to keep the event firing only when mouse is over the 'back', so I can't add eventlistener to the 'btn'.I could put some transparenet duplicate of 'back' in front of the 'text' and add listener there, but I believe there should be a more elegant solution.Maybe there is some way to exclude an element from the whole capture/bubble event procedure?

Most JavaScript code is also syntactically valid ActionScript 3.0 code. However, there are some exceptions which leads me to my question:
Which constructs/features in JavaScript are syntactically invalid in ActionScript 3.0? Please provide concrete examples of JavaScript code (basic JavaScript code without DOM API usage) that is NOT valid ActionScript 3.0 code.

I'm just checking the swf in Flash CS5 using ActionScript 3, publishing with command+F12 (key command on Mac OSX), but that alone should work right without exporting? And to go a little off topic, could someone kindly tell me how to embed the swf as HTML code, as I'm trying to setup this swf as an intro to my website and need to embed it as HTML for my index.html page.

I want the navigation to be like the traditional rollovers on the page. (I'm working my way up to having the embedded flash button fade into place, that's why I'm using flash.)

function clickHandler (Event:MouseEvent): void { trace("CLICK!"); navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://ianmartinphotography.com/about.html")); } // 2.

i have this javascript tracking-code I need to place in our flash-banner in order for our third-party tracking company to track clicks and that sort of stuff, but I'm not sure how I need to place it in our flash-banner. I thought I coudl simply place this javascript into a top layer or the like, but seems I cannot directly include it like that inside Flash. Then I thought perhhaps I could simply save the javascript file as .js file and call it from within the Flash file, but not sure how to go about it...
Here below is the javascript in question:
Code:
<!-- START::ib-ibi.com View Tag; DO NOT MODIFY TAG-->
<script type="text/javascript">

I'm involved in writing a Flex/ActionScript library and in the future I will be involved in writing the same library in JavaScript. Rather than writing a library in each language and having to maintain them separately I was wondering if it was possible to:
1) Write the code in one language and share the code into the other e.g. Write the code in JavaScript and use the same .js files in ActionScript
2) Write the code in one language and perform a conversion into the other
I know it's possible to communicate between Flash/ActionScript and JavaScript but I'd like to avoid the overheads in using the technology bridge so this isn't really an option.
How do other people deal with writing and maintaining libraries that do exactly the same thing but in different languages? Specifically how do people do this between JavaScript and ActionScript?

do you know any browser-side component, in HTML/Javascript, Flash, Applet or Silverlight, that would allow source code edition with syntax highlighting and auto-completion.
CodeMirror has a good syntax highlighting support but does not seem to support auto-completion.If no such editor exists do you know any way to implement auto-completion using HTML and javascript or any other browser-side technology ?

I am trying to build a Flash banner ad which will be hosted on a site I have no access to. My client would like to have a button which, when clicked, would open a youtube video in a lightbox frame. I'm a senior actionscript dev and would like to start converting some of my class libraries to JavaScript, especially those that make use of bitmap manipulation and would target the canvas element in HTML.
My question is how clean is the resulting JavaScript code from a haze/haxenme compilation? Is it easy to debug?
Or would I be better off forgetting haze/haxenme and coding in JavaScript from scratch?
