ActionScript 3.0 :: Get Movieclip Name From Class To Flash?

I am adding some movieclips dynamically to stage. If we click on the movieclips, they goto and stop at frame 2. The Click Event for the Movieclip is defined in the base class

I want to get the Movieclip name when users click on them. Say, I would like to delete the selected movieclip.But, I cannot figure out how to get the name of the movieclip.I cannot add click event for movieclips in flash, because there is already a click event in the class file.

I'm trying to build a shuffle function that somebody gave me into my card game. I two external .as classes; one is Shuffle.as, which is my document class, and the other is card.as. I'm building the shuffling function into Shuffle.as. I think I'm getting close to making it work, but there are some problems. I keep getting this error message: "5000: The class 'Shuffle' must subclass 'flash.display.MovieClip' since it is linked to a library symbol of that type." Here is my code. Shuffle.as code

I am doing a looping background with 2 identical BG movieClip (B1 and B2). Those 2 are "new" by the same class.
var B1:MovieClip = new BG();
var B2:MovieClip = new BG();
But because this BG class picture is loader from the internet and the picture is rather big. When I addressed its loading by using progressEvent. The picture is really loaded 2 times. Is there anyway I create B2 based on B1 without using new BG() again? Since it definitely makes a new BG with Loader code inside.

I want to create a movieclip class that subclasses another movieclip class and inherits all its properties (rather than having to rely on the include statement). In my project I'm using:An abstract parent class that extends a movieClip: "infantryDroid".[code]However everytime I try this, flash acts as though nothing was imported from the parent movieclip class.If I was to try the above code I would get the message that _root and speed (which were defined in the parent class) "are undefined".

I have this base class

I then, in the Flash document, create a movie clip which has this class set as the "Base class" in the properties. However, if I then do this.updateText(); in the movie clip's frame script, it complains
TypeError: Error #1006: updateText is not a function.
at miranda_fla::MenuButton_3/frame1()
Why doesn't it work? I know the class is read and compiled, because I had an error there which was reported.

I've a strange issue. In Flash CS3 IDE, I linked a MovieClip to a SubSimba class. This class doesn't extend MovieClip (it has MovieClip package as its base) but, instead, it extends SuperSimba (that extends MovieClip). What happens? I instantiate SubSimba in my Flash project and it behaves as I if I called super() inside the SubSimba constructor: is there anyone here who understands why?

i'm trying to use compiled assets and code from a swc. Inside a new fla I select the swc to be included when exporting. When create the instance in the timeline of the code works and I can see assets that are inside the swc and trace a propertie from the same object. The problem is only when doing the same inside a movieclip, can't reach the assets (movieclip) but I can still trace properties from the class. I've uploaded the working files: master.fla is the one that creates the swc. template.fla is where I test the swc. files (This are cs4 .fla + .swc + .as)

I am working on a flash game that I am building in Flash Builder 4. I have a library of movieclips in the FLA file and need to create instances of these movieclips within objects of a custom class. I am unsure how to refer to the library of the flash file while in a class file.
I also would like to call these movieclips dynamically based on the combination of two strings. I know it is possible to create variables dynamically with this[variableName]. Can I refer to library objects from the flash doc in the same way?

ive been working on a little project of mine for the past few weeks, but am having major problems getting class motion tweening to work using as3.I have spent the past 6 hours trying to get some image planet buttons at the bottom of my screen to scale larger when mouseover. This is what I am trying to do. I have a "n" number of dynamicly loaded movieclips (ships).ach ship has a unique movement throught points that I also load from an xml file.For example "Ship A" will go to x:100 y:120 then to x:200 y:300 and so on. Ship B has a diffrent set of points that will travel. I know how to make this work for one movieclip(ship). I was wondering if I can use the same "movement" class for all of them? What values should I pass to the class exept the movement array of each ship

If I have a Document class that extends MovieClip, and I want to use it as the basis for another Document class, is it possible to create a subclass that extends the main document class and use that for a different FLA?
For example,
fla1.fla has a document class of MyMainClass:
public class MyMainClass extends MovieClip
fla2.fla has a document class of MySubClass:
public class MySubClass extends MyMainClass
I've tried, but now I'm getting errors that all of my variables that reference stage instances aren't being found.

Ok, this is one of those walls that I know once I can jump over it, I will be a much happier developer again.
I've done tons of reading, and think I have a firm understanding that the general consensus is that if you want to reference something, it needs to be added to the display list, using addChild().
I hate to be defiant, but what if I don't want to?
Or at the very least, what if I want to add a movieclip class to the stage using addChild, and then reference objects inside it?
It is much easier this way than what most people recommend - adding 15 objects via addChild, then setting the x and y for the, etc.
That said, I'm all about using classes and using as3 the way it was meant to be used. So what this is, is a best practices question I guess.
HERE ARE THE STEPS I'M TRYING:
- Create new flash document
- Draw graphic symbol bg, with text field over it, select them, convert to movieclip symbol, and export class name "box", then delete it from stage
- Add document class .as file, which simply adds that class "box" from the library, to the display list using a simple addChild()
- Set a name for that box using box.name = "test" let's say
- Do a simple trace like the following - "getChildByName('test').textFieldName" - it shows up great
- So then, I'll now try to set the text by doing this - getChildByName('test').textFieldName.text = "yo";
That last line above, is what doesn't work. I know I'm referencing wrong, but how would a pro as3 developer, reference something on the stage within a movieclip class, from the document class?

I have this class named MovingObject which extends the MovieClip class. This class will be instantianted for several times. Inside this class is a Timer that handles the speed of the objects moving. There is another class called TheStage and this is where I will instantiate MovingObject (s).

Assuming that the code is working fine (I haven't debugged it), this makes the particles to move all at once. However after several seconds of running it, the particles seem not to be moving in synchronization with each other (because their distances between seem to get nearer). How to make the objects move with their distances each other evened out.

I have a movieclip in my library named mcLeaderboarditem. I've generated a class for it to manage the textfields.
The easiest way is to make a child of the class and manage the contents properties with the dot-syntax like this (documentclass):

Let's say I have a FLA file with document class called main. In main, let's say I have a method called test1 that just outputs "hello world" via trace. On the FLA I have a movie clip. In that movie clip, when the timeline reaches frame 123, I want it to invoke the test1 method (I just set up a simple action on the frame). However, I get an error saying that the method is undefined. I try this.parent.test1() too but that gives me the same error. Is it not possible to invoke a document class property from within the timeline of a movie clip that's on the stage?

I believe this should be a very simple fix, but I cannot for the life of me get this working, and i've been playing with it all day. Basically I am trying to start working with classes, I want to attach a movieclip to a flash movie, from my class [its for a card game style thing]. But when I attach a movie clip, it does not appear on the screen,. It exists, I can trace its .x position etc.

I'm still in the process of completely moving from AS2 to AS3 and I felt confident how to do this in AS2 but AS3 is much slower to work with. I'm generally ok with all the syntax changes but I'd continued to put all the code into my FLA and not multiple classes. The primary reason for this has been because I still need to visually design how parts work and use that repeatedly in different pages and sections (and for web projects the big files are all images and data which I load externally anyway). Yet as projects get bigger and we have multiple team members we need to break it all up.
So I'm taking a simple use case of a button. I want to reuse one button style with a number of different states and functions contained within it. It has some methods I can use to pass it a new title or set properties like whether it is Active or Inactive, Selectable or Visitable and all of those properties define different responses when events occur. All that code lives in a class, but that's linked to graphics within a movieClip that are designed through the Authoring tool (visually not code). Thus I have a final button.swfHow then do I reuse that Button across other pages (in different FLAs) that are designed in the Authoring tool and where I can update the button without updating all of the finally composed SWFs of those pages. Using a shared library asset slightly makes sense but that still requires recompiling the project each time and does that bring through it's linked classes too?
It doesn't seem right to need to load in the button.swf repeatedly, shouldn't I be able to load it in once and then it's available to the whole application to just initiate it as I want it, eg. button1:myButton=new MyButton() , and set it's properties each time.Also I can envisage that since I'm doing this in AS3 I'll get errors because I want to instantiate something that a parent SWF is loading in. Then the issue I struggle to understand how to deal for AS3 is how to tell the buttons to target a _root function with individual parameters that I set in it upon creation

How can I run function of the main document class from a class of a MovieClip? I usually just used MovieClip(parent).function(), but now my MovieClip has another parent. Or what do I have to pass to the MovieClip class when creating the MovieClip to acess the main document class?
