Dec 13, 2009I have a stage with instances of bauble_mcs on it that are attached by the document class of the main timeline (can someone tell me what the right term is here? I don't know what I call the main time line in AS3).
I then have instances of snow_mc attached by the same class. Inside the snow_mc I want to test to see if it is hitting any bauble_mcs but I don't know how!

ActionScript 2.0 :: List Of Objects And / Or MovieClips Under Mouse
Mar 19, 2010Apparently it's relatively simple in AS3 using a stage mouseevent.MOUSE_OVER listener, but I need an answer in AS2, which doesn't have the mousevent listener. Is the only way to get a list of objects under the mouse cursor, to do a recursive list of every object in the file and do a hitTest to get true/false on each? There must be a simpler way, right? I've seen a bunch of comments on forums that say "use hitTest", but hitTest just returns true or false, and not with the name of an object you hit, so maybe there's a way to use it that I'm not considering?

Aug 5, 2009I'm used to using list variables/objects a lot from the Flash player in AS2, to make sure objects have really been removed, onEnterFrames have really been deleted etc, or even to make sure arrays are correctly populated etc, just for general debugging purposes.Now when clicking list objects or variables in AS3, I just get Level 0, and that's it.How do I see a list of all objects/variables in AS3?

Then I create a new layer with a photo. How can I see the list (root) of objects that are inside each layer? I know that I can use the outline color to visually identify them but is it possible to see the objects as a root?

AS3 :: Dispatch Events To Objects Not Related On The Display List?
Nov 18, 2009So, events bubble up the display list. That's great if that's what you want. But what if you have objects on the stage that are not related that need to listen for events from each other? A simplified example:

Object B can listen for events dispatched by object C. But I also need object A to listen for events dispatched by object C. Also, these objects are created in different classes so I can't hard code references to each other.

The user can select a category, then the list of objects of that category is displayed, then he can drag and drop an object to the main window.
How is it possible to do this, having a list of objects?

Mar 21, 2011I've asked this question before but had no answers... so here I go again I have a structure of objects: Top object A has as children (addChild children that is...) one or more objects B_1 to B_n. The B_n may in turn have one (1) associated object A' (Same type as top object, not displayed to begin with). When I click a B_n two things may happen:
1. If it has as associated object a A', put it on the stage (as child to B_n).
2. Otherwise it is a leaf and it does other things.
If '2' happens I want to collapse the tree, that is remove the top and all children of same type from being displayed. I thought a recursive approach should work:

Aug 5, 2011I have a list containing display objects from throughout the application (insertion order). I want to process the list either top-down (parent, child) or bottom up (child, parent). The only requirement is that either a parent is processed before any child or vice versa a child before its parent. What is a good approach? This question is not about sorting a list. It's about retrieving the depth of a particular display object.
Example
Display list:
A (root)
B1
C1
C2
D1
B2
......
My list:
list = [E1, F4, A, B2, B1, C3, ..., N9, N8]
Bottom-up:
N9, N8, F4, E1, C3, B2, B1, A
Top-down:
A, B2, B1, C3, E1, F4, N9, N8
Does not matter if N9 before N8 or N8 before N9. Important is that any N is before M (first run) or any M before its children N* (second run).

I have traced out the contents of the List MC and it has a child MC called 'content_mc'. I assumed this was the object containing all of my list items but the only members of this MC I can see (when tracing them out) are 'setRGB' and 'searchKey'.

The 'recommendations' dataProvider is an ArrayCollection of String, which are generally sentences about as long as this one. By setting the variableRowHeight and wordWrap properties as shown, if a sentence is too long to fit on a single line, everything works fine- the row expands and the messages show on two lines, or occasionally three.
The space allocated for this panel within the entire canvas means if the total text size of 'recommendations' exceeds six lines, I need for the entire list scroll. This is also working just fine. The trouble is when using the mouse wheel to do the scrolling- Flex scrolls both the entire list and the single item where the mouse is hovering. Often this results in only the second half of a sentence being visible. Non-programmer friends I have asked to look at this noticed this, and tell me it as a problem. If a user does not notice the dual scrolling, and sees only a fragment of a sentence, it will be perceived as an error in the application.

Apr 23, 2011I want to add a SimpleButton to a list item in a list component. I am getting the CellRenderer for the list item I want and using the addChild method to add the simple button. The button appears in the right spot on the list item but it doesn't function like a button. It's like the contents of the buttons first frame is added to the CellRenderer and nothing else.

Theres any workaround for this? I have a listener for keyboard event that checks if keyCode is equal to 40 if it is then I use 'stage.focus = list', but I have to press 2 times key arrow down to start navigating through list items.

Jun 28, 2010I'm trying to animate a list as I delete the top row. All the examples I can find use itemsChangeEffect to bind to the effect, but this property exists only in MX lists, not spark lists.
Any idea how I can get the same effect done in Spark Lists?
I'm trying to remove the top most item in the list with a slight fade out effect before the rest of the items move up to replace the gap.

Sep 28, 2009I am creating a map of the USA and when a user mouses over a particular state,I want to display a movie clip (which is just a text list of our dealers in that state). When the user mouses out I want the list to disappear.However, I want the user to be able to mouse over the list to scroll the list and whenever I try it, obviously the state loses focus and the MOUSE_OUT Event fires.How to I get around this?Here is the code I have currently:
