I'm using this AS to load multiple external images into mc instances on a stage, using different loaders.[code] The external images always load from the upper left corner down,  how can you make the image load from the center of the instance on stage?I found this code below and doubt it will work for me since I have 5 mc instances on different parts of the stage, so the stage wouldnt be a good reference point.[code]

i have been building a library that has thumbnails which you click to view the full image. i have built the application it works but i want to change the way the image on the actual thumbnail loads using code instead of manually adding the value to the url loader component.

the loop runs fine without the last line of code which i've commented out.the make up of these thumbnails are a uiLoader component which are each inside there own movieClip.what i wanted this to do was every time the loop runs it currentLoad adds 1 to its value then that value is subbed into instanceN:String and thumbnailURL address that bit works the trace statements read correctly.but my issue is using the instanceN value as the instance name path which then loads the current thumbnailURL value which is the URL address for the thumbnail picture.when i try to load the url address using the commented out code above i got the error .TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.the trace statements correct values below

the first value is the currentLoad value.

the second value is the instance name path.

the third is is the URL address for the thumbnail.[code].....

I've been following along with this tutorial, which works except it uses an array to store the image path, and then later converts/saves the loaded Bitmap to a variable.

For cleaner more reusable code though, I'd like the images to come from an XML file.

Now, I'm assuming that if I have my image paths in an XMLList, I need to separate each item so that each is an XML object -- then convert it to a string so it can be saved as a Bitmap?

If you load say 3 external images in AS3 and want to run a function "useImages()" only once all three images have loaded what is the best way of listening for them to complete loading.

I'm not quite conversant with classes and loading external pictures so be patient My intention is the following: a sort of slide show which dynamically loads all pictures of a certain directory and displays them one after the other. To do so I want to get the number of images of a certain diretory (img) by using a PHP script (done), then the PHP-Script sends the data to the Flash file (done) which stores it in a variable (done). I am preparing a photo gallery containing over 100 HD images, and I don't want any site visitor to wait the whole gallery to load. So I made them loaded from a folder with the help of an xmlList file. With GoForward and GoBackward buttons, I made every picture to load when requested with "addChild" command after removing the previous one. But if the next image is too big the visitor still have to wait the image to load, and another problem is if the visitor makes a few forward or backward moves he/she still have to wait for the very same image to load which is shown moments ago because the image have been unloaded.

Is there a way to load all the external images into library but make them wait in the swf cache until the associated button is clicked. so this way no image will be load twice nor the visitor should have wait.

I'm trying to dynamically load multiple images to a Movie Clip on the stage. Where I am having trouble, is when I position different sized images one under another.

What I have done is, assign a variable for the position for the _y of the next image. eg. var spacing:Number = 0;

Since I'm loading the images from a XML file, I've included the height for each image aswell. This is where I am having trouble

eg. spacing += myxml.childNodes[i].childNodes; OR
spacing = spacing + myxml.childNodes[i].childNodes;
trace(spacing);

Say for example, the image I am loading is 400px high, 'spacing' then appears to be 0400 and not 400. After I load the second image, which is 500px high, spacing appears to be 0400500 and not 900.

I'm loading a bunch of SWFs at the same time. I'm using a custom class to do the loading. Most of the time they all load OK, however occasionally one or two will be unloaded (I can see that in the console) before we get to the Event.COMPLETE. The ProgressEvents are all fine - I can see them loading, but then boom - they're unloaded.

I've done a bit of digging around and discovered that this may be a bug in the Loader class where if you are using multiple instances of the class then sometimes one or more will be Garbage Collected before they finish loading and are therefore unloaded. I've tried keeping a reference to the loader and the classes holding the loaders and I'm still having the problem. The solution is to queue the loads and load each swf in order which isn't a problem, just a bit irritating.

I am trying to make an interactive book that will have a chapter broken into several paragraphs that will load into dynamic text boxes.

For my first chapter, I have 3 text boxes, in which I have 3 different .txt files being called upon with 3 separate loader(); events It's important that the .txt files are loaded dynamically so the content can be edited easily.

Is there a way to do this with array or classes so I don't need to create and code 10 boxes for each chapter?

I have a movieclip that gave a class name and set everything to export into action script. Now, I would like to put multiple instances of that same movieclip on the stage. I would also like to be able to keep track of them individually. Would I need to do something like create a for loop and have it run however many times i want that movieclip onstage? If I did that, how would I be able to manage them? Would I also give them names in the for loop and have a var that goes ++ every time it loops, then attach that var to the end of the name I give it.

I'm creating a game in ActionScript 3.0 using the FlashPunk game engine and the FlashDevelop SDK. I've created my own MovieClip class that takes a preloaded movie clip file.

The problem that I'm having is that when I have multiple instances of the MyMovieClip class using the same swf file, only the last instance is rendered and is updated for each instance of the class that I have.(e.g 3 instances of MyMovieClip, the last instance is updates at 3 times the speed.)

I'd like to create a chain of objects (either movie clips or sprites) that move left to right across the stage continuously. I know I can create two movie clips that contain a series of several 'chain links' and are each a little wider than the stage width. Then I can move both clips across the stage and when the first movie clip is completely off stage reset its x position back to 0. Likewise, when the second clip is completely off the stage on the right, reset it's position off the stage to the left.

This works and gives me the basic effect that I want by creating this uninterrupted moving chain, but it doesn't seem like its the most efficient way to achieve this. What I thought would be more efficient would be to create each link in the chain separately from an individual mc in my library by programmatically adding new instances to the stage.So, I created a single chain link mc and set its export linkage to 'Link' and left the base class to flash.display.MovieClip. Next, I placed the following snippet of the code on the first frame of my movie:

i have 4 flvplayback components on stage loading 4 different videos. How do i sync them?

I have ensured they are all fully buffered i.e fully loaded and then play them all at once. But they keep getting out of sync. I.e i am checking the sync with the playheadtime. I had written an timer/enterframe event to check for out of sync at and pause and seek times to the fastest playing player . But this happens for every second. i keep gettting a very jittery video with breaking sounds due to the constant pause /seek / play cycle.

How can we sync multiple flvplayback videos properly.

I'm having issues with something wanted to accomplish involving qued amations that i can reuse in various situations throughout an application...

Basically, what I'm trying to get is a prototype or function that will allows for multiple instances on that stage that start at a specific x/y and size, animate to a specific x/y size and end at a specific x/y and size... the x/y and size information is defined for each of the instances in the function.

A good place for this would be with buttons... check the sloppy diagram attached.

I have an arbitrary number of object instances on the stage. At any one given time the number of objects may be between 10 and 50. Each object instance can move, but the movement is gradual, the current coordinates are not predictable and at any given moment I may need to retrieve the coordinates of a specific object instance. Is there a common best-practice method to use in this case to track object instance coordinates? I can think of two approaches:

I write a function within the object class that, upon arbitrary event execution, is called on an object instance and returns that object instances coordinates.
Within the object class I declare global static variables that represent x and y values and, upon arbitrary event execution, the variables are updated with the latest values for that object instance.

add multiple instances of an object to the stage at different but not random points.

For example - I have a box that is linked to a class file. In the class file I have an "ADDED_TO_STAGE" event listener. The function that is called places the box at a certain position on the stage say.... x=100, y= 200.

In the document class I create an instance of it like so -

_box:box = new box();
addChild(_box);

Now what I want is to create multiple instances of box on the stage every 5 seconds. But I don't want them all to spawn at (100,200) on the stage. But here's the catch, I don't want them to be random spawns either.

for ex- I want the first instance of box to spawn on (100,200), then 5 seconds later, the second instance to spawn at (200, 800), the third at (100, 500) and so on.

Would it be possible for me to create objects on the stage to serve as reference points for where i want the instances to spawn instead of writing the exact co-ordinates?

I'm trying to make a custom PDF viewer in flash. Currently I've found a freeware server side script that will convert the PDF into a single Flash AS3 SWF file with each page from the PDF on a new frame. Loading this is no problem. I can navigate through the pages with a simple gotoAndStop(frame); call.

Here's my problem: I want to display more then one page at a time. I want to be able to scroll through the pages and see one page going off the top of the screen while the next is coming up from below. So, how can I put multiple instances of this SWF on the stage? Do I have to load it with a loader and URLRequest multiple times? or can I make copies of the one I've already got somehow?

I still have to load PDF in flash, but if I could find a better way to create an SWF out of the PDF. I'm currently using pdf2swf and it's great and all. Maybe there is some functionality to that program that I'm missing. Some other way to organize the PDF pages in the SWF.

Flash :: Using An External Class With Multiple Frames On The Timeline And Multiple Stage Placed Buttons

I have a problem when making flash applications with more than one frame that has symbols placed on it in that I can't declare all of the event listeners for the objects at the same time and I have found that even if I put them all on the first frame, add the event listeners, then click through to the next frame then the buttons won't work on that frame.

Does anyone have any idea how I could solve this? I did consider myself a fairly competent AS3 programmer until I realised I had no idea how to handle this sort of thing. Solved: I initialised the clips from my external class and then addChild'd and removeChild'd them as I needed to and placed their x and y on addChilding.

I'm making an image gallery and am loading about a dozen thumbs that load a larger image when each one is clicked. Works just great so far. But, as expected, there's a little pause before each corresponding large image is displayed.I'd like to eliminate the wait, if possible, so here's my question: As a matter of preference or programing style, whatever you want to call it, do you guys usually load ALL the images first, thumbnails as well as large images, before displaying anything on the stage? Or do you just load each large image when necessary, after its corresonding thumbnail is clicked?Sometimes I see very cool Flash sites that have the percentLoaded line or twirler displayed for what seems like a long time, but then each screen (MovieClip) after that displays fairly quickly and I'm wondering if that's what's happening - all, or at least a LOT of the images are being preloaded

I am making a web page and i have to load in to main page swf multiple swfs that represent background. First there is a gradient swf than swf with snow particle system. My question is what would be best practice to use one loader for all different swfs that are in the background or should i use different loaders for different swfs?Here is what i mean:

1.) var loader:Loader = new Loader();

I use this loader to load first gradient swf and after it it has completed loading i use same loader to load snow swf.

2.) var loader:Loader = new Loader(); + loader = new Loader();

I use this loader to load first gradient swf and after it it has completed loading i set it again to be loader = new Loader();
and than i use this loader to load snow swf.

3.) var bgLoaderGradient:Loader = new Loader(); + bgLoaderSnow:Loader = new Loader();

I use it to load gradient swf and than i make new loader,

bgLoaderSnow:Loader = new Loader();
to load snow swf.

So what would be best way to do loading of the swfs.

in a loop i wish to load a sequence of images in an individual movieclip for each. e.g image0 in movieClip0, image1 in movieClip2 etc...

i've set up the loop and the movieclips are added using an array.

addChild(aMovieClips[i]);

when i use loaders.load(new URLRequest("assets/images"+section+cityCode+i+".png"));

it unloads the previous images and only shows one image in the last movieClip.

I then tried using loader[i].load but this didnt work.

I then tried creating the loaders outside of the loop and then adding them to an array but this doesnt seem to work.

specifically it breaks at aMovieClips[i].addChild(aLoaders[i]);

How do i go about adding a different image to each individual movieClip.

Picking up on something wvxvw said recently in another thread:[code]you shouldn't start several loading operations concurrently, you should wait for the first loading to complete and then start another loading, otherwise you are risking to get "request timed out".Had me wondering. I recently changed things around in several of my scripts when I found that running multiple loaders would speed my overall time spent loading by a significant amount (often halving the loading time).So I was curious for some more information and opinions on the matter.[code]
