ActionScript 3.0 :: Getting Access To Instances?

May 13, 2010

so I have been declaring my instances inside the package

public var projectDetailrojectDetail = new ProjectDetail();

which is fine but I don't really want to create the instance automatically when the class is created and I do not need to make them public but the problem is if I create in in a function

public function createDetail() {
var projectDetailrojectDetail = new ProjectDetail();
stage.addChild(projectDetail);
}

I get his error, 1120: Access of undefined property projectDetail.

because the variable only exists in its own scope, it there an alternative technique rather than use public variables all the time?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Access Instances Of Loaded SWF?

Jun 25, 2011

I'm just trying to create my small personal website, so I ask your forgiveness in advance if my question sounds stupid...Well, I need to get access to MovieClips instances in my external SWF file, which is a player skin.Although there are plenty tutorials in the Internet about this (e.g. http:[url...), I'm unable to make them work for me...Here is my code:

import flash.display.Loader;import flash.events.MouseEvent;import flash.display.MovieClip;

const SCALE:Number = 1.25;var CPLoader:Loader = new Loader();var ControlPanel:MovieClip;

addChild(CPLoader);CPLoader.load(new URLRequest("ControlPanel.1920.swf"));CPLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loading_complete);[code].......

ActionScript 3.0 :: Access Sub-instances From A Loaded Swf?

Dec 4, 2010

let's say character.swf has a movieclip with instance-name "feet_mc" on the stage. And in my main flash-file (not the character but the game) I now load character.swf in a loader and then: addChild(event.target.content); and that visually adds the character to the scene no problem,

but let's say now I want to access the instance "feet_mc" from my flash-file, how do I speak to it?

if I do: trace(event.target.content.feet_mc); < that works! but I want to be able to access it using a real path from the root.

if I: trace(addChild(event.target.content).name); < it will tell me that the name of the character placed on my flash-file is "instance32",

so you would think I should then be able to say: trace(instance32.feet_mc); but for some reaons that doesn't work! why?

I don't want to refere to the loader (i.e. I don't want to gfxLoader.feet_mc) because that one is getting re-used over and over again for all the assets in my game.

Flash :: Access MovieClip Instances That Are Already On The Stage In Document Class?

Dec 15, 2011

I have created a game in flash, and due to the nature of the game, I have many movieclips placed on the stage manually in Flash CS4. They are not programmatically added as children to the stage, and so I am having difficulty getting access to them in the document class. So far the only method I have been able to use is to do stage.addChild(active_area); (for example), but there are many movie clips, all very differently named, so this method seems incorrect.I've discovered that my MovieClips are not children of the stage, but in fact MainTimeline, as when I for loop through stage.getChildAt(i);, only one child, root1, is traced out. How can I access movieclips that were placed on the stage in the timeline from the document class, without having to manually add them as children to the stage? So it looks like my problem wasn't that I couldn't access the MovieClips, it was that I wasn't modifying the MovieClips' values, so I wasn't registering any change in them.

Here is the code after I fixed it:
function manage_cursor(e:Event):void {
prevX=currX;

In AS3, how can you access a relative variable within a specific movieclip on the stage?I have a test file that changes the variable "myVar" in one of the displayobject movieclips drawn on the stage. I want to simply trace the current value of this displayobject's myVar for additional purposes.In AS2, you would achieve this by calling the instance name and then the variable contained within.Assuming 3 movieclips existed on the stage named Container1¯, Container2¯ and Cotainer3¯trace(_root.myContainer2.myVar);// returns Hello which is value of variable "myVar" within the movieclip instance named "Container2".How would you do this in AS3?[code]

ActionScript 3.0 :: Manipulating Instances From External Class?

Feb 3, 2006

I've got an image slider that I'm trying to convert to external classes (OOP and everything). I've got four bars on stage (bar1, bar2, etc.) and I'm shifting them left and right from a "Shifter" class through library linkage. I can get the individuals to shift, but I want more than one to shift (click the right-most one and all open, click the left-most one and only it opens). Like an accordion, basically. I'm new to OOP, and I can't access the individual instances. So far, I can trace the instances using:

for (var i:int=0; i < numChildren; i++) { trace(getChildAt(i).name)}
(and get: instance1, instance2, etc.)

How do I record the instance into my external class? Something like:

(very rough example)
var bar1:Object = getChildAt(i);
var bar2:Object = getChildAt(i + 1);
etc, etc

I've tried pushing them into an array. No luck.

ActionScript 3.0 :: BulkLoader Breaks With Flv?

Nov 16, 2009

I'm using bulkLoader to load an mp3 and an flv using their simple-example.as

It works fine if I make the SimpleExampleMain the file's class, loads sound and video and plays them both when they're finished. However, if I DON'T make it the class and just use:

Code:
var se:SimpleExampleMain=new SimpleExampleMain();

it loads both, plays the audio fine, but doesn't show the video?? It says that it's loaded, but it doesn't show anything. NOTHING is different except it's not the file Class...

Here's the SimpleExampleMain.as:

Code:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Bulkloader Won't Play The FLV

Apr 19, 2010

i'm working on a project that uses a lot of external files (sounds, videos...)So I decided to use the class Bulkloader to load my items.

First item I try to load : i'm stuck.The item (a flv) is loaded, but is not playing once the COMPLETE event is fired.All the code above is in the first frame of my flash. (I don't like to work with external classes).

Code:
import br.com.stimuli.loading.BulkLoader;
import br.com.stimuli.loading.BulkProgressEvent;
import flash.events.*;

[code]....

The 'loaded' string IS traced so everything works fine until that.Seems it is the resume() function (or something else ?) that do not work.

ActionScript 3.0 :: BulkLoader FLV Metadata Error ?

Jun 2, 2010

I'm having a particularly frustrating issue with the BulkLoader API [url] that I thought perhaps someone here might be able to help resolve. What I'm trying to do, is to capture the metadata from a loaded .flv (through Bulkloader) so that I can check its duration. In all my efforts to facilitate this, Bulkloader either misfires once the video has loaded and/or returns null. For the sake of preventing redundancy, here is what I've tried/checked so far...

-I've pulled the metadata of my video(s) through a simple custom net connection... so it is there, and I can grab the duration this way. However, in this particular case, I need the data from BulkLoader.

-I've encoded/re-encoded the video(s), and have also injected custom data. Still no luck.

-I've changed the loading parameter "pausedAtStart" to true, as suggested, and have used netStream.seek() to jump to later frames or back to the first.

Needless to say, this is a very frustrating issue that I just can't seem to find a way around. Here is a link to my source files w/Bulkloader library: [url].

Here is a look at the code:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Load Jpegs From A Server Object Instances

Sep 28, 2010

It has been a while since I worked with flash and I am picking up AS 3.0 now. I have this project that should load jpegs from a server. I found that properties like x,y position etc are accesible through the loader object and that you can add a click event to it. Let's say I want to display a list of jpegs in thumbnail format, when the user clicks on it, it should show a full size version. I am not sure what the best approach is to achieve this as I assume that when using the same loader object to download all images the click event will reference the last downloaded image, correct? Should I create a seperate class for all of this and load all images by instantiating this class for each image or is there an easier approach?
