View 1 Repliesi'm making a drawing tool in flash with the ability to draw shapes, put text, etc. i need to incorporate undo/redo facility in it. is there some efficient way to go about it? or will i have to go the hard way, remembering in some way the last three actions performed by the user in an array or stack or something??

In the application there will be multiple objects located on stage and user can customize the position of the objects. But when user clicks on Undo the object go back to their default position and after clicking on redo object will move on the new position. So my question is how can I apply these feature in my application? Is there any library or any third party classes?

I already have an undoredo framework functionality working, now I have two questions.When do I start/stop a new undo/redo command, eg when a user hits undo, how far back do I go. How do I implement this(1.) in a normal TextAreay thinking:I thinking that I should create a new undo command, when anything but a alphanumber+space is hit. To do this I would use the keyDown event and test if the key is alpha num if it is not I will reset the command.
View 3 Repliesi've been unsuccessfully attempting to create my own undo/redo classes that work well with any type of possible undo and redo commands.
for example, my simple class works perfectly with undoing/redoing x and y positions of display objects or undoing/redoing values of sliders, etc., but things get dicey when i try to tailor my classes to also work with things like adding and removing items to a list.
is there any well known and well documented solution for general undoing and redoing for actionscript (without Flex)?

Now I am thinking about to create some undo redo functionality. Each time I do a transformation / add an filter I want to be able to go back to the previous image (before the action).
My thought is to have an Array and add the previous bitmap to the stack. But I see that there are some differences between transformations and filters I have also seen the ImageSnapshot and whot i can do and it looks like what I am after.
I have developed an small application in flash 8. It is creating xml at runtime and add new nodes,delete particular nodes at run time. I want to use undo option in this application.

I'm making a room escape game and I've run into a problem. When an item gets added to the inventory, I'd like the user to be able to click on the item to affect another object (e.g. clicking screwdriver hides screws and displays other image) however when I add the code to the item, if the item is clicked and it's nowhere near the object it affects, the image pops up and it looks really stupid.
So what I'd like to be able to do, possibly using if and else statements or whatever's easiest, is to only have the inventory item be clickable if the movie clip of the object is affects is visible on the stage.

I am trying to make an interactive flash application that works by detecting mouse overs and clicks on various buttons/movie clips and then moves to the appropriate part of the time line. But I am having an issue when I use more than one addEventListener in any one frame. I have attached the code for one such frame below. When I comment out the addEventListner and the other code relating to the followBall function this works fine and directs the user to frame Inlet_Valve_Open_Frame but now only the followBall function is working and when i try to click on the Inlet_Valve_Button movie clip nothing happens.
I have never read all the help files on the adobe flash CS3 as i don't have time and i have built this code up based on examples i have found online. I wanted to include my fla file but it's to big 6Mb. But i have attached the swf so you have an idea what i am doing.

So I have a movie clip called signInBtn and one called signOutBtn initially,
signOutBtn.visible = false;
but when a user signs in
signInBtn.visible = false;
signOutBtn.visible = true;
But after I do that, I can't click the signOut movieclip. I thought it might be because the signOutBtn was under the invisible signInBtn but that is not the case.
So as to make things less confusing (I had a lot of different layers), I made each scene in my animation in its own file. Now I want to put them in the same file, so I thought I could make everything in one file into a movie clip and put it into another file that way.
However, it doesn't seem to work! I can highlight everything, convert it, and paste it into the other file... but when I paste it, it only pastes the first frame of my highlighted selection! How can I convert the whole thing into a movie clip instead of just one frame?
I am trying to find out how to pause or stop an image in a basic flash movie clip, after it has entered from one side and before it exits the other side.I have been trying to work it out myself for three days but no joy. I am practicing for a test with a training agency which gave me a disk to use but nowhere in it does it say how this is done. I am also having a lot of difficulty making stop start buttons work with this movie clip. I am using a trial cs5.5 version of Flash which expires in 7 days so i need to know this soon. I am up to speed on most of the features, its just this one thing that has me stumped. A lot of the tutorials or examples i have found on the net are very long winded and hard to follow exactly.

The menu is a movieclip and within it i want to have buttons that control the timeline. The buttons however do not work as buttons when in the movie clip. is there anyway to make flash identify them as buttons within a movie clip?

View 2 RepliesI have a site with a container clip which all other content loads into. When one movie loads, it has a button that I'd like to be able to click to go to another page in the site (ie. unload it's parent movie and load another swf into the same container clip.
How can I address the parent container clip and tell it to unload this movie and load another swf into it?
I am pretty new to ActionScript 3 and Flash. I don't want my movie clip to play unless the person's mouse curser is on the movie clip for more than a second. If the person just runs their curser over the movie clips really quickly, then it should do nothing. It must be more than a second. How do I code that?

I have a bunch of movieclips which constantly do the following:
mc.parent.addChild(mc);
as in bring themselves on top. I want a movie clip to always stay blocking them, without adding it to the stage every frame, which is unnecessary memory usage.
Animation of the head that comes up with the crank on it is 15 frames long. The head stops at frame 15, and it begins to crank at frame 16. Do I make a keyframe at frame 16 of that still crank at its begininng position, double click it to get its own timeline, then import the other 7 images of the crank animation into this seperate timeline, animate its cycle, then go back to the main time line at frame 16 and it should play the cycle when the main timeline hits frame 16? What if I want the cycle to only crank once around and not loop? Then, what happens to this movie clip when frame 17, 18 20, 30 is playing? It takes say 2 seconds to play the crank animation so while the play head is going along after frame 16, and the crank is moving what is in its place on the main timeline after frame 16? Should I just put frames in for the length of the rest of the animation (brain and words coming out of the head)?

this will make your movie clip bounce. that i need to know is why does it bounce. i cant quite get my head around it. i start of and accelerate, hit 300 on the stage but then go up decreasing my speed by 0.8 every frame..
