ActionScript 3.0 :: Getting The Loader Object Via ContentLoaderInfo?

Mar 6, 2009

I am loading images dynamically from the web into my swf. I use a loader class and add an Event Listener to the loader so it will add the image to the stage when done.

Code:
for (var i:int = 0; i < number; i++){
var poodleLoader = new Loader();
poodleLoader.load(new URLRequest(urls[i]));
poodleLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, showPoodle);
}

But what I do not manage to do is referring from the Event.COMPLETE-event to the loader object in my showPoodle-function. How do I refer to it? I was thinking addChild(e.target.parent.data) but it tells me the contentLoaderInfo has no parent?

Nov 10, 2009

I've one loader which load a png file. I used contentLoaderInfo to intercept COMPLETE event like this:

loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.Complete, handler); The problem is that at the complete event I want to push this object into an array, like this:

function handler(e:event){
var array:Array = new Array();
array.push(e.target);
}

E.target is the reference to the contentInfoloader, while I need the reference to the loader itself. How can i resolve this issue?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Instance-variable (array) Is Supposed To Be Unique

Oct 21, 2004

I encountered a rather irritating problem yesterday. I wrote a class. The class has got 1 variable of the type :Array. its a public variable.On the scene i have 2 movieclips which are connected to my class through its linkage in the library.My problem is that even though the instance-variable (the array) is supposed to be unique for the instance only it gets overwritten for every new instance i create.for example. if i assign the first instance's array 2 values (1, 1)and the do the same with the second but here i change the values to (2,2) then when i check my first instance it has got the same values as the second instance...that is (2,2). Flash :: Loaded Object Is Apparently Null After ContentLoaderInfo's Event.complete Function Has Run?

Aug 24, 2011

I am having an issue with a class I'm working on. I currently load an image as a bitmap and store its data into regState:BitmapData so that I may make new instances of that image later on. When I test if I can use the loaded data at a later time with my newBitmapIntance() function, it says that regState is null. I'm lost as to why this is the case, since it works flawlessly to create an instance of itself in my loadContent() function.

Does creating a new instance of an Object that uses an identical name to an older instance, delete the previous instance? Or should the original instance be deleted first? The code uses a ridiculous amount of XML vars. Isn't it less memory intensive to parse the XML and save the properties to an Object, and then delete the XML Object, rather than keep the XML Object around and reference it's child nodes directly? Is it better form to break up a huge XML file (>600lines/3200vars) into smaller chunks?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Use Local Instance Variables Vs Attach New Properties To The Instance Object?

Mar 14, 2006

I am wrapping my brain around OOP in AS2. I am making two posts on two different subjects. My question here is: when should I use local instance variables, and when should I attach new properties to the instance object? (Feel free to correct my terminology.) Let's say I have a class for a scrolling background, which scrolls when I mouse over its edge. I want to put these values somewhere:

1) How wide is the border in which a mouseOver makes it scroll? This is basically a semi-constant I set it up once and keep it the same, unless the user changes it in an options menu to make the border wider or narrower. Call this scrollBorderWidth.

2) How fast is the background scrolling now? I want to track this so I can smoothly change the scroll speed over several frames. This is often changed. Call this scrollSpeed.

It seems I have two ways I can store and access these values and darned if I know which is better practice. METHOD A: Make them local variables in the class, so the scrolling background instance has them as local vars. I set them up thusly:

ActionScript 3 :: How To Make Array That Index Things Based On Object

Nov 8, 2010

How to make a kind of array that index things based on a object? but not being strict like dictionary.

What I mean:
var a:Object = {a:3};
var b:Object = {a:3};
var dict:Dictionary = new Dictionary();
dict[a] = 'value for a';
// now I want to get the value for the last assignment
var value = dict[b];
// value doesn't exits :s

How to make something like that. To not be to heavy as a lot of data will be flowing there. I have an idea to use the toString() method but I would have to make custom classes.. I would like something fast..

ActionScript 3.0 :: Separating Loader Array And Array For Grid Of Images?

I'm sure its a simple matter of iterating a .name within a contentloaderinfo .onComplete when each swf is loaded...

ActionScript 3.0 :: Unload More Than One Instance Of Loader?

Also how do I reference these loader instances in general?, using thumbLoader only allows me to talk to the last of the thumbnails created?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loader Instance With Custom Properties?

Oct 14, 2009

Through searching the various forums I have found that Loaders are not dynamic and hence you can not apply custom properties to each instance of them. I miss the old way (as2 way of attachingMovieClip) that you load dynamic content, at least you can apply custom properties, and you can always reference them for each object.What I'm trying to do is load a group of Images via XML. Each one of those images have a set of information that is associated with them (name, description, etc). I have the images loading in and positioning just fine, however when trying to have a tooltip show the name on Mouse Over, I'm not able to achieve this.

In short. I want to be able to store information for each item so that I can access it. Is there a way to do this in AS3 with a Loader or is there another route I can go? If I do this with Arrays, how do I store the Index of the specific item so I can use that in reference to the position in each array?** Should I use getChildIndex() in the function for the Event Listener to reference the data stored in the arrays for each item? If so, how do I do so? ***

num = 0;var titleArray:new Array();function createImage(){ var thumb:Loader = new Loader; thumb.load(new URLRequest(url);

ActionScript 3.0 :: XML Loader Class Instance And Assigning Values

Oct 6, 2011

I have a small issue with instantiation of an xml loader class. I'm using a standard way of loading external data and assigning it to "myXML" variable. My class uses event.COMPLETE for loader to make sure that data is fully loaded. Everything works fine until I make an instance of this variable in to my Main() class. The trace of "myXML" gives me null. It's like it didn't assign data on time. Since the onComplete event handler should take care of any delays it is hard for me to figure this out.
