ActionScript 3.0 :: Make A Loader Variable With ContentLoaderInfo As A New Instance And For Every Object In The Array
May 26, 2010
I am trying to make a Loader variable with contentLoaderInfo as a new instance and for every object in the array like this:
[Code]....
so for some reason the previews object in the display list gets bumped out with the last object in the array.

I am loading images dynamically from the web into my swf. I use a loader class and add an Event Listener to the loader so it will add the image to the stage when done.
Code:
for (var i:int = 0; i < number; i++){
var poodleLoader = new Loader();
poodleLoader.load(new URLRequest(urls[i]));
poodleLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, showPoodle);
}
But what I do not manage to do is referring from the Event.COMPLETE-event to the loader object in my showPoodle-function. How do I refer to it? I was thinking addChild(e.target.parent.data) but it tells me the contentLoaderInfo has no parent?

I've one loader which load a png file. I used contentLoaderInfo to intercept COMPLETE event like this:
loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.Complete, handler); The problem is that at the complete event I want to push this object into an array, like this:
function handler(e:event){
var array:Array = new Array();
array.push(e.target);
}
E.target is the reference to the contentInfoloader, while I need the reference to the loader itself. How can i resolve this issue?

I have made a Flash app in which there is an class called "MyGame.Person" which has multiple subclasses "MyGame.PoliceMan", "MyGame.FireMan", "MyGame.Doctor" etc. "MyGame.Person" is defined in the main .fla file, but the other classes are each defined in separate .fla files. I have split each into its own .swf file so that I can extend the game without having to reissue the main .swf file.I then use a Loader to download each .swf file and call
var assetClass:Class = myLoader.contentLoaderInfo.applicationDomain.getDefinition(assetClass Name) as Class;
to extract the class from the downloaded swf file. So if assetClassName is

I am curious if this is an okay implementation of the Array.filter() method.
[Code]...
I was not able to figure out an implementation of the callback function for the filter() method, where the callback was outside of the getGallery() function. I wonder if there is a way to get the isGallery function outside of the getGallery scope?

How do I access the object of an event? Can't quite figure it out. This is what's happening.
object.contentLoaderInfo(Event.INIT, someFunction);
private function someFunction(e:Event):void{
trace(e.target);
}
Output = [object LoaderInfo]
I want to access the parent of the object, but I'm hitting a dead end.

I encountered a rather irritating problem yesterday. I wrote a class. The class has got 1 variable of the type :Array. its a public variable.On the scene i have 2 movieclips which are connected to my class through its linkage in the library.My problem is that even though the instance-variable (the array) is supposed to be unique for the instance only it gets overwritten for every new instance i create.for example. if i assign the first instance's array 2 values (1, 1)and the do the same with the second but here i change the values to (2,2) then when i check my first instance it has got the same values as the second instance...that is (2,2). I'm building a website that is basically an art gallery. I have a movieclip that I'm placing dynamically Code:[code]This wall movieclip is basically a wall background image with artwork hung randomly at different sizes and locations... more of a collage vs a grid.I've manually placed the artwork mc's on the wall since it's such a random layout. Each artwork mc has an instance name of "art1" "art2" etc.I thought about trying to use xml, but since I'm not dynamically loading the thumbnails, I don't know how I would reference the thumbnail to the full size image?when you click on the mc "art1", make "art1" the value of the variable "currentArt" then look at the loaded XML and populate a DetailView_mc with:art1 info.[code]

I am having an issue with a class I'm working on. I currently load an image as a bitmap and store its data into regState:BitmapData so that I may make new instances of that image later on. When I test if I can use the loaded data at a later time with my newBitmapIntance() function, it says that regState is null. I'm lost as to why this is the case, since it works flawlessly to create an instance of itself in my loadContent() function.
Class so far For reference:
package {
import flash.display.MovieClip;

I'm making a card game and each card has a certain symbol on it which is loaded from an external .png file. I don't want to make it so that it has to load the .png every time it make a card, so I made it load in the preloader/background. How do I make new objects that looks the same as the loader, like copying the loader's data or something?

I'm looking for a good method to compare a single bitmap data instance against an array of stored bitmap data objects. I need to figure out how I can compare and arrive at the conclusion that the result either means that the images are of the same object/aka similar or if they are two totally different images. I tried checking threshold of the result of the compare() function but my efforts have failed so far.

Does creating a new instance of an Object that uses an identical name to an older instance, delete the previous instance? Or should the original instance be deleted first? The code uses a ridiculous amount of XML vars. Isn't it less memory intensive to parse the XML and save the properties to an Object, and then delete the XML Object, rather than keep the XML Object around and reference it's child nodes directly? Is it better form to break up a huge XML file (>600lines/3200vars) into smaller chunks?

array which I'm looping through to get variables(as text) to display in dynamic text fields..If possible I would like to sort the array into numeric order using "sTabArray[i].sHour". A variable of each of the array items..Is there a way I can do this ?aybe create a new array from the original one and then use that ?
for(i = 0; i < sTabArray.length; i++) {
var sMin:String = sTabArray[i].sMin;
var fMin:String = sTabArray[i].fMin;

Alright so lets say I have a number of movieclips or text fields or something with instance names test1, test2, test3 and so forth. Now say I want to fill these text fields with text that I have in an array and I want to do this with a loop, how do I do this? What I'm really asking is if there is a way to use a variable in an instance name if you catch my drift.

So I have this Photo class than handles loading a pic, and dispatches an event when the loading is done with:[code]which is simple and works, but now I'd like to make something more advanced. I'd like to dispatch the load ratio.So far I have extended the Event class, with my own EventRatio class, and I can put properties on that class. Which is cool, but I need something more dynamic than just sending a fixed value.So, what is the best way to connect the Loader object of the Photo object, with the EventRatio object?

I am wrapping my brain around OOP in AS2. I am making two posts on two different subjects. My question here is: when should I use local instance variables, and when should I attach new properties to the instance object? (Feel free to correct my terminology.) Let's say I have a class for a scrolling background, which scrolls when I mouse over its edge. I want to put these values somewhere:
1) How wide is the border in which a mouseOver makes it scroll? This is basically a semi-constant I set it up once and keep it the same, unless the user changes it in an options menu to make the border wider or narrower. Call this scrollBorderWidth.
2) How fast is the background scrolling now? I want to track this so I can smoothly change the scroll speed over several frames. This is often changed. Call this scrollSpeed.
It seems I have two ways I can store and access these values and darned if I know which is better practice. METHOD A: Make them local variables in the class, so the scrolling background instance has them as local vars. I set them up thusly:

How to make a kind of array that index things based on a object? but not being strict like dictionary.
What I mean:
var a:Object = {a:3};
var b:Object = {a:3};
var dict:Dictionary = new Dictionary();
dict[a] = 'value for a';
// now I want to get the value for the last assignment
var value = dict[b];
// value doesn't exits :s
How to make something like that. To not be to heavy as a lot of data will be flowing there. I have an idea to use the toString() method but I would have to make custom classes.. I would like something fast..

I have a base class I've used on 6 different MC's. Then when I use these MC's my function runs an if statement to check which one to add.
if(id=design) var obj = new design();
if(id=team) var obj = new team();
I want to make it a bit more dynamic and use the id:String to evaluate which new instance to create.
ActionScript Code:
public function loadChapter(id:String):void {
var obj = new instance_of( id )();
}

As we know whent here is no such variable of null value assignment to a variable or instance flash throws this kind of Error.In one of my Application i need to get more flashVariables, They may or maynot come as FLASHVARS. But when i miss any variable flash thows this error as an alert box. is there any simple solution to avoid this kind of issue
when i use try,Catch statement the issue will not come, But i don't like to write Bunch of try,catch statement for all this kind of variables.

PHP Code:
var filePaths:Array=["thmb1.swf","thmb2.swf","thmb3.swf","thmb4.swf", "thmb5.swf", "thmb6.swf",
"thmb7.swf","thmb8.swf", "thmb9.swf", "thmb10.swf", "thmb11.swf" ];
function loadImages3(event:MouseEvent):void {
[code]....
My problem is that I can't figure out how to decouple the loader from this loadNewRow function. Ideally, I'd like to figure out how to load all the swf's give them dynamic names... like thmb1loaded, thmb2loaded, thmb3loaded.. push into an a ("loaded") array and then have that be used to build the grid.Right now, its loading them every time the loadnewrow function fires. I'm sure its a simple matter of iterating a .name within a contentloaderinfo .onComplete when each swf is loaded...

I have created 20 thumbnails using a for loop.
On each loop an instance of the loader class is created and an image shown from an xml file.
I want to unload these images (so they no longer use memory) at the click of a button.
I tried putting thumbLoader.unload(); into a new for loop but it only removes the last thumbnail. How can I get rid of them all.
Also how do I reference these loader instances in general?, using thumbLoader only allows me to talk to the last of the thumbnails created?

I dont know wheather to create a new instance of a loader each time:
var loader:Loader;

Second question is (if I use the second way) why do I need to unload the loader before calling load again? (otherwise I get an error)

Through searching the various forums I have found that Loaders are not dynamic and hence you can not apply custom properties to each instance of them. I miss the old way (as2 way of attachingMovieClip) that you load dynamic content, at least you can apply custom properties, and you can always reference them for each object.What I'm trying to do is load a group of Images via XML. Each one of those images have a set of information that is associated with them (name, description, etc). I have the images loading in and positioning just fine, however when trying to have a tooltip show the name on Mouse Over, I'm not able to achieve this.
In short. I want to be able to store information for each item so that I can access it. Is there a way to do this in AS3 with a Loader or is there another route I can go? If I do this with Arrays, how do I store the Index of the specific item so I can use that in reference to the position in each array?** Should I use getChildIndex() in the function for the Event Listener to reference the data stored in the arrays for each item? If so, how do I do so? ***
PHP Code:
num = 0;var titleArray:new Array();function createImage(){ var thumb:Loader = new Loader; thumb.load(new URLRequest(url);

I have a small issue with instantiation of an xml loader class. I'm using a standard way of loading external data and assigning it to "myXML" variable. My class uses event.COMPLETE for loader to make sure that data is fully loaded. Everything works fine until I make an instance of this variable in to my Main() class. The trace of "myXML" gives me null. It's like it didn't assign data on time. Since the onComplete event handler should take care of any delays it is hard for me to figure this out.
