How can I make a global varaible ArrayCollection that I can call from differint classes/components in flex?
View 1 RepliesI'm new to Flex and am using TileList bound to an ArrayCollection. The array collection is empty at load time, and then updates with the results from am HTTPService call. The problem is that the item renderers aren't being rendered as expected, I'm guessing because there was no data when they were first rendered at load time. Here's simplified example:

I am working on a text adventure game which will have at least a few components (a text area for narrative and text input for user input) on the stage at all times. Therefore, I have created those components statically through Flash's WYSIWYG design environment. I gave them instance names "myTA" and "myTI" respectively. I was able to get my main class (the document class for the stage) to interact with them (dynamically adding text one character at a time like a typewriter at runtime), but other classes in the same package don't seem able to recognize the stage components. I am currently developing a mobile application using the latest version of Flash Builder and I need to create a Global ArrayCollection to store information in that is pulled from a local DB. I can pull back the data from the DB fine however I cannot seem to access the Global variable when I try. I have the follng .as file called "Model.as" which is located in a folder called valueObjects and that file contains the following code:

Then in a private function I try to access the ids ArrayCollection and populate it however I get the following error:
-1120: Access of undefined property ids.

Is there a way to make a Flex 3 Datagrid show only the first node of an arrayCollection, instead of showing all of the arrayCollection's data?[code]...
View 3 RepliesI have an ArrayCollection bound to an editable DataGrid, another component needs to know when the ArrayCollection changes (as a result of changes in the DataGrid) so it can also update itself, so is listening to the COLLECTION_CHANGE event of the ArrayCollection.
The problem is that the DataGrid only updates the ArrayCollection when the row being edited losses focus. This is not good for my app as a user could edit a column on a row and not click elsewhere on the table for a long time (causing the row to lose fucus), therefore the changes won't have propagated to the other parts of the application.
How can I make the data grid inform the ArrayCollection of a change every time there is a keyup event on a text input instead of every time a row looses focus?
Is it possible to make global functions, much in the same way you make a global variable, reachable from anywhere in the project?
View 1 RepliesI'm building an object oriented project with liquid layout in a loose MVC framework. My controller knows when the stage is resized, and it needs a way to tell all of the display objects to rearrange themselves appropriately when the stage resizes.
Option 1 would be extending the sprite class with a class that has one additional resize() function. On initializing the class it would register itself with the controller which would then noitfy all of the assets when it detects a stage resize.
Option 2 would be building some sort of global event that any child of the stage could listen for and do its thing when the event comes through.
this is the function i want to turn in to a static function. just dont know how to make it a static function and call it from other classes. i think this would have its own file.

For example, suppose I have a "notification" template that I want to add to a notifications area every time something new happens. This template includes an icon (Image), text (label), and some space between these two things.
I want to take a template like that and make it so I can invoke it with a function like add_notification("icon", "text"). How would I go about doing that?
I have a vertical tab-bar with 4 items with different sub tabs. All the four items use data from a single xml file, which is a big file. When the user clicks on a tab, while the data is being loaded this error is shown. TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. I want to disable all the tabs while the xml file is being loaded.

I've built a small, simple web page. One frame uses 3 ComboBoxes and one UIScrollBar. I set up my Components by dragging them from the Library and using the Property Inspector to give them values. Everything works fine and shows up when published... but then eventually, when published, all of the components show up as blank rectangles. I'm trying to minimize the data being loaded during Frames 1 & 2 due to the preloader. I chose to Export Classes in Frame 3. When I do this, my Components (in Frame 9) disappear. How can I solve this?
View 1 RepliesI have created a simple method to retrieve XML output from an HTTPService and populate a database from it, but due to the async nature of Flex, the functions go through while its still retrieving data - hence causing the function to return a null value. find code below;

But it can go through the database population before it can retrieve the result from HTTPService hence producing a null result.
Do you know any flex component with the functionality such as horizontally collapsible window or panel I found arc90, but it folds vertically.
