ActionScript 3.0 :: Recording Sound Then Processed By Dll's Written In C++
Mar 23, 2011
1) I don't understand the difference between flex and actionscript. I understand AS is used to write flash apps but what is flex?
2) I am going to create a flash app for recording sound which is then processed by dll's written in c++. Can this be done in flash? I don't want the flash app to communicate with dll's on a web server, I basically want to load the dll's for direct use into the flash app.

*I've been trying to develop a recording application, it is my first real programming project, so bear with me. What it is is a simple Audio Recorder that records sound directly from the Sound-Card. In other words, what you hear and what comes through the speaker is what is recorded. Many of you may be familiar of this process as a component of the Audacity application by selecting the recording type as Stereo-Mix.*
In making this, I could not find a way to access the users Sound Card directly using actionscript. So what I'm asking is, is there a way to access a users soundcard through AS3 or is it impossible? If there are no pre-built libraries or functions that can do it, would it be possible for me to create one that will help me gain access to the sound card?

If one wants to record sound from the microphone input in the browser one can do so today through Flash. (Afaik there is currently no other good option which works across browsers.Is there a simple swf-plugin which allows one to do so? That is,with the options "Start recording", "Stop recording", "Get wave of recorded sound (or similar)".

I'm currently recording sound and storing the byte array for playback and subsequent encoding to mp3.
Unfortunately though I am getting a click sound at the very beginning of the recording.
I have attempted a couple of methods to try to eliminate this such as:
recording the first .3 seconds with mic.gain = 0; then setting mic.gain = 50; clearing the byteArray after the first .3 seconds then continuing to write the bytearray (in effect deleting the first .3 seconds of the recording.)
Neither of those methods has stopped the click being added.
how I can prevent the click from being added?
Here is my recording/storing code:
public var mic:Microphone = Microphone.getMicrophone();
public var micSilence:uint;
private var soundBytes:ByteArray = new ByteArray();
private var soundBA:ByteArray = new ByteArray();

how could i record the precise time(in milliseconds) where sound effects are being played. This is what i have in mind/ or what i have done so far as an example: i start clicking the 'record button' and the timer starts.Then i play a sound effect and the time elapsed is 1.444 seconds,after that i stop the recording. What i was doing is push the values of the timer elapsed into an array as a string. So when i hit the 'play recorded clip' button, the timer starts again but this time:
it is constantly checking for the timerOn the example i have stated above; when the time elapsed at 1.444 seconds, i expect the sound i've played when i recorded to play. I have the methods needed to fire away the specific sound effect.

I was wondering if there was a way a user could click a button to record a sound that would be stored to a sound clip and played back by the click of a button?
In other words, can I dynamically record a sound from my mic into a sound clip in an .swf?

I am currently an English teacher and I am familiar with programming in DOT.Net platform. I am completely new to Flash. I turned to this platform because I thought that would be the best way to prepare interactive computer based exams in English. My real problem is, I don't have the slightest idea as to how I can create a Flash application which records the sound through the microphone and saves it on the local disk.

I am totally new to Flash Media Server I need to be able to record sound via a Flash app and save it to a server preferably without the use of a Flash Media Server type setup. There is no requirement for live streaming. Is it possible to record the sound and save in memory then pass the data/file as a query parameter to the server?

so suppose I have a long sound recording as part of a Flash presentation.Can I put on the presentation a scrollbar and start /stop/ pause/ resume buttons as in Media Player or Windows sound recorder that would allow me to scroll to basically jump to any moment in the sound recording? So I guess, I am asking, can such typical sound player functionality be implemented for a Flash presentation in Flash.If there are sample apps that already demonstrate how to write similar code, links

When one call Clipboard.generalClipboard.getData() in ActionScript outside of Event.PASTE processing function it fails with following message. The Clipboard.generalClipboard object may only be read while processing a flash.events.Event.PASTE event. Even if I dispatch Event.PASTE event and call this function within event handler it still fails. How does it determine which event is currently being processed?

I'm having a very frustrating problem with FMS. A stream recorded on the server-side won't play until I restart the server.
The user flow I'm currently working with is:
1. record webcam stream
2. close the stream
3. call FMS function to post process the stream
4. FMS joins the recorded webcam stream with two pre-recorded videos and stores as a new stream
Then, knowing the new stream name, I'm trying to play it. However, I'm always seeing its last frame and it doesn't play. Surprisingly, restarting the server and re-connecting to it helps, then I can play the stream.
So I wonder if (server-side):
var stream = Stream.get("streamName");
stream.record();
stream.play(...);
stream.play(...);
stream.play(...);

I have a windows service behaving as a Binary Socket sending data to flex applications. Once I try to send strings or int's or any other native data-type, everything is working great.
I even succeeded in sending JSon from the server to the client parsing it on Flex.
I want to send AMF objects to the client.
Meaning, I have a class called User, I want to fill it with data and send it to the client, there I want it to be mapped to an object on the client.

When recording a video to FMIS if the stream is buffered, does this get buffered in memory or does it use up local storage?
I am developing an application that will use a web cam to record videos which will then be submitted to the server. Ideally I would have liked to write the video to disk first and then upload later however, I understand that I can't do this with flash (my solution has to be in browser AIR apps aren't an option). I am ultimately concerned about video quality so in order to ensure that I loose as few frames as possible I'm planning on setting NetStream.bufferTime to a large value. I am concerned however that someone with a poor internet connection and a good webcam will quickly use up local storage assuming that it is set to the default of 100K.
If this is the case then I potentially need to think again about my approach - maybe even look into Silverlight 4, or at the very least try and explain to my users how to go into flash settings and set local storage to be unlimited.

Every attempt to D/Load results in the correct dimensions, height and width, but it just gives me empty white space.

Here is the code: The only difference is that, on the server, the SWF stored on another domain. I'm not sure whether this caused the issue.

asically what is happening is that my Flash client claims that it is calling functions that don't arrive at the server -- or they arrive, but the socket data is out of order and therefore is garbled. I've stared at the source code for hours and tried a lot of trial-and-error type stuff and added trace statements to see if I can find the problem and I'm not having any luck.
In particular, there's class I have called RPCSocket that extends the AS3 Socket class so I can serialize data structures before sending them across a socket. At one point, this RPCSocket class calls super.writeBytes and super.Flush. It is the point at which I send all data out of my client. The data is binary data in AMF3 format.
public function executeRPC(serviceName:String, methodName:String, methodParams:Array):void { if (!this.connected) { log.write('RPCSocket.executeRPC failed. ' + methodName + ' attempted on service ' + serviceName + ' while not connected', Log.HIGH); throw new Error('RPCSocket.executeRPC failed. ' + methodName + ' attempted on service ' +

Can someone recommend a way for me to store without corruption, conversion, or filtering or translation of any kind *all* of the information sent across this socket? I'd like to write it to a file. I'm guessing that keep a global ByteArray var and storing the info there might work, but I'm wondering how I might get the contents of that ByteArray into a file so I can inspect it.
Also, I'm wondering if I might be able to inspect what flash actually sends out on the socket? I have a sneaking suspicion that data I supply to super.writeBytes may be sent out of order or may not actually get sent across the socket. This bug I'm talking about only seems to happen under high-stress situations when I'm sending dozens of messages per second across this one socket.
