I got a Website.as file that loads 4 library's movie clip's on the stage in certain positions.. Clip_A Clip_B Clip_C Clip_D
Clip_A loads on the top left side , Clip_B on top right , Clip_C in Middle and Clip_D low right position.
What i need to do and understand is how can i tell that class to find a button inside Clip_B and play a certain frame in Clip_C?
My three navigation buttons on my website ('but1', 'but2', 'but3') are programmed to go to each section on my timeline: 'home', 'pics' and 'contact'. However, whenever I click on my homepage button (but1), it doesn't do anything. The other ones are fine but it's just the home button that doesn't seem to link anywhere. My code is below,

I'm having an issue with my website design and as I'm relatively new to flash I can't seem to fix it on my own. I know what I'm supposed to do, technically, but not sure how to actually implement it. Below is a picture of my timeline: What my problem is that the buttons for navigating my pages (bio, news, projects, links, etc.) are nested inside of my Navigation MC (on the Navigation layer) and so they appear in the timeline (at frame 20) before my content does (frame 70). Because of this, the buttons can't be aimed at the content because their code is run before the content even exists.
I'm guessing that what I need to do is to instantiate my content at a point in the timeline before the navigation/buttons occur... but as the content is the last part of my loading animation, I'm not sure how to do that. I read something about adding the MC's but keeping them invisible, then making them visible again at teh appropriate time, but I don't know how to do that or if it would somehow mess with my animation (everything fades in one item after the other, with the content being the last part).
I have a Flash site I'm developing which has a section with various flv movies. When I click on the section, the 1st movie starts automatically and plays fine but if I navigate to another area of the website before it finishes, the sound still plays in the background. If I click on a different movie thumb, the sound stops as it should.
how to code this in AS 3?
I'm learning it right now but still very green and I have no idea of how to make the music stop.

What I am trying to do is basically get my navigation working correctly. I had it working by altering the alphas of movieClips, but they just end up overlapping each other even if they are invisible so that's not working out. I have 5 navigation pages. And thus, 5 nav buttons, and 5 movieClips (content for each page -- Home, Location, Tenants, Design, Contact). I want to simply show the home movieclip when on the home page and remove the movieclips from the stage for the other 4 pages.
Then, logically, I want to click the Tenants page, which removes the home page, location, design, and contact movieclips. Very straightforward show only one and remove the rest from the stage, but every combination of add/removeChild and parent and stage etc. is giving me that error above. What's confusing me the most is that the add and removeChild works for the location page, but none of the others. The location movieClip is no different than the others, and I made the code the same but it's the only one that works.

I have a flash file that loads in a external swf. That swf contains a form that I want to control the tab order on. The external swf has form fields in it, and I have their tab indexes set. When I hit tab, flash ignores the flash index, and focuses on some of the navigation elements of the parent .swf. What am I doing wrong?

View 2 RepliesOver the past few days, I've been trying to figure out how to make a flash website that will have elements move in accordance to when the window is resized. I had got as far as getting it to work in flash when you preview it there. But I tried to publish it and it sits at the TL at its normal size. I had set the html to 100% etc. but to no prevail.[URL]..
I have attached a zip of the files I have- they are unpleasing to the eye and incomplete, but it should get the idea across. Hopefully this doesn't seem like to much to ask. if you can get my ugly Zip.file to publish in Dreamweaver, like it previews in flash.

I am trying to make a 'Slide-Show' like flash object that flips through slides at a predetermined speed and when a slide is clicked on it takes you to a new page. View 3 RepliesI was wondering about MC and hey can help to lag a game out. I set up an advanced class system so i don't have to use MC to simulate walls, all i use isthe x,y,width and height. Well anyway since i don't need MC anymore I was wondering if there is a way to attach Graphics instead of MC cause a Graphics file size is relatively small than that of a graphic, I think. If anyone could tell me thats true and show me a way to attach graphics that would be nice. I haven't tried it yet but maybe if I exported the graphic from the library imihgt be able to call its name, but it doesn't have an instance name so im stuck.

The project I'm currently working on is updating my portfolio site and I have a navigation bar that I want to fade in, click on a link, fade out, then go to the specified link. I've got the animation working the way I like, however I cant get the links to work correctly. I've used the standard getURL commands, but then every button goes to the same link, not different ones.
What Action Script 3.0 coding do I need to make the animation play the way I've described and have each button go to it's own link?

Im trying to convert my company's logo from a jpg to a flash movieclip...I need to do this because the jpg has a static background of white...but I need the background to be transparent so that only the text graphix show up above everything else...assuming I can get a hold of the font used for the logo...how would I do all the fancy shading/lighting with the "bent horizon" look across it? I want to load in external swfs into an mc on the root called 'holder'.In As2, I would just do loadMovie("whatever.swf", this.holder); And if I loaded another swf into that same holder it would replace the contents with the new swf.
But now, I'm trying As3 and doing..var i =new Loader();i.load(new URLRequest("contact.swf"));this.holder.addChild(i)
When I repeat this code, for another external swf, I want it to replace the first one, but it appears to not be doing that. I fear that this addChild, is simply adding more mc's within my main holder mc.
So I don't know how to match the functionality that I liked from As2.
I'm trying to recreate the sky with a rotating clip in the shape of an arc. I've tried the built-in timer that changes the rotation, I've tried the TweenMax class, and I've tried hand-building the animation with a motion tween. In all cases, the movement is jerky--smooth for about five frames, then a sudden jerk of motion. What can I do to make this animation smoother? Clip is about 2400px wide, 400px high, with a reg point about 3000px away that it rotates around.
View 3 RepliesI've been looking all over with no luck for a way to code the pen tool in AS3. What i want is, in the flash application, the pen tool as it functions in Flash itself. So, for example, i push Ctrl + Enter and test my program, then can use the mouse to click and create a point, click again and it connects with a straight line, or click and drag to create a curve. I don't need anything like hinges where you can go back and edit curves, i just want the click/click drag line functionality.

View 3 RepliesIm working on a project where i have 5 buttons on one side and a blank window in the middle of the screen. when a button is clicked an external swf is loaded with movieclips of text based on each catergory. 2 of these movieclips of text are long and a request for an index at the top of the page has been made. everything in the movie is working so far except the page index. i wanted to create this similiar to the way an html index works with page anchors.
i have made all the letters and converted them to movieclips. ive added event listeners to those buttons so that the main window's y position is moved when they are clicked. the main swf window will jump down to the desired position but the scroll button remains at the top and theres no way to scoll back up to the top of the page.
I came a across a really sharp intro effect I'd like to try and create in jQuery, mootools or prototype[url]... (Just the spin in effect) So in a sense, I want to spin in the main content div of the page.

Works OK but slow using mc's on the main timeline using the swapDepth behaviors.It appears (on the [URL]) that each swf is loaded independently on top of the main with their own preloaders.This seems vastly more complicated than just swapping depths on a single timeline.
