ActionScript 3.0 :: Scale World Larger And Smaller To Effective Zoom In And Out?
May 22, 2010
For lack of a better description, I have a world of bitmaps, but some are outside the boundaries of the stage. How can I scale my world larger and smaller to effective zoom in and out?

ok, so i got a logo, each letter it a clip, cos the logo is bit more than just text, but thats beside the point. I want each letter to start of larger than it should be and zoom out (scale down) to the normal size, pref with a bit of a bounce at the end, so it goes from very big to, slightly smaller then proper size, to proper size, get it?
so with help from Master64 (via IRC) i worked out that i could use _xscale and _yscale (i am relativly new here, lol ) but the problem i got is that it scales, but in huge jumps, not smooth.
The class is ment to be reusable (duh!) so my concept is

I want a circle to get large. No problem:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
if (_xscyle<200) {
_xscale+=10;
}
}
but now: when the circle has reached the desired size I want him to shrink back to e.g. 150
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
if (_xscyle>150) {
_xscale-=10;
}
}
I have problems because at a certain time both if-conditions would be fullfilled and nothing happens.

I have 2 .swf files.#2 will be dynamically loading into #1.
Lets say the stage size of #1 is 600x400.
Lets say the stage size of #2 is 800x600.
Is it possible to load a larger .swf file (#2) into a smaller one (#1), and somehow see the whole thing? As in, not crop the embedded file to the dimensions of the smaller "containing" file?

How can I set the parameters of a smaller mc, to be placed on top of a larger mc, and not have the active ingredients (such as some random floating objects) roam outside of the smaller mc? The problem I am having at the moment, is my objects will not stay inside the smaller mc, but instead, roam all over the larger mc below it. So I'm thinking I need to set up some solid parameters for the smaller mc. I was up late, late last night on all sorts of actionscript boards, and still haven't found the answer. I am using flash 5, and the small mc is, once again, on TOP of a larger mc.

I want to accomplish this. I want to have two buttons and my piece of text. When the user clicks the plus button the text gets larger. When the user clicks the minus button the text gets smaller.

Background: Sorry for the complex title, but can't think of a better way to describe this. So I have an image which is constantly moving and rotating (using matrix rotation around a specific point) on the stage. Problem: So I'm looking for a way that, when the user presses a button, a smaller image (exactly the same as the original one, only 3 times smaller) to position itself so that the smaller image's location is proportional to the the larger one's location. This means that the exact point of the larger image where it is rotating should be the corresponding part of the smaller image, thereby causing a kind of zoom out effect.
The truth is, I'm finding it even difficult to match just the x and y positions so they correspond, ignoring rotation, assuming the position is relative to the rotation point. Even this would be useful.

I created a simple mouseover (like this one http:url... )with one small image that grows to a LARGER image directly on top of the smaller image when mouse is OVER the smaller image. When user mouses OVER the smaller image the larger image appears correctly.Problem is that even when user mouses OVER the "boundries" of where the LARGER image WILL appear, that also causes larger image to appear. What I want is for the larger image to appear ONLY when mouse is OVER the smaller image.

I'm creating a simple navigation for a portfolio site. On my main (root stage) I have one movie clip. Inside this movie clip I have all the elements of my website. I'm doing this so the user can scale and move the navigational elements around. This is accomplished by simply placing actionscript on frame 1 on the main (root stage).
Code:
nav._xscale = 60;
nav._yxcale = 60;
Eventually I will but a slider on the main stage so the user can scale to whatever size. My problem is that everything scales fine, however, the hitboxes become extremely small, and don't scale with the rest of the elements.
Code:
onClipEvent (load) {
this._x = 8;
this._y = 25;
speed = 2;
} onClipEvent (enterFrame) {

I just want to design a button when the mouse roll over the button will gradually become larger (to a fixed size) and gradually comes to the originally size when roll out. I try to use "Adding Buttons to Movie Clips" method, ie, one MC with two layers, an amimation MC (tween from small to big and then big to small) and a button. Add script as follows:
on the first frame:
if (Playing eq "True") {
play ();
} else {[code]....
When I roll over the MC tween small to big and big to small and when roll out the MC gradually small. What I want is when I roll over the MC tween small to big and keep it is except when I roll out.

Here's a very simple AS3 project consisting of one class which draws a rectangle. When I run it, the rectangle is clearly larger than 100x100 pixels.
Edit: I know that it isn't correct because, though I have my screen resolution set to 1280x800, if I set the width to 500 it takes up almost all of my screen.
package
{
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.Event;[code]....

I'm trying to make a movieclip scale proportionally only if the item is being resize smaller than the current.Obviously I can use the ScaleX/Y values like so:
if (cont.scaleX < cont.scaleY ) { cont.scaleY = cont.scaleX; } else { cont.scaleX = cont.scaleY; }
I need to restrict/reset the scale proportions only in special case that the stageWidth/Height are smaller than the movieclip.

I have created a 3D product view page with a scrub bar that spins the object via 32 images taken of the object all the way around.
I would now like to add a zoom and pan function of some kind as well. Anyone have any suggestions or FLA files with this sort of thing? The 3D spin images are inside a movieclip, so I basically need a "+" and "-" button to scale the images up, and then be able to drag the movieclip around the stage too.

I've learned how to link XML to my FLA and have it populate info boxes. Its easy to do this at the state level but I'd now like to do this for all the counties in the US.I'd like to be able to mouse over a state and get information pertinent to each state (this I know how to do). When one clicks on the state, they'll then fly-in to a more zoomed level where they can see county-level information.Should I build this so that clicking on a state simply loads a new FLA specific to that state and its counties? This seems easy but clunkyIt seems smarter to have all the info in one FLA. When you click on a state, you'll zoom into that states level and then have the ability to click on counties and get their infoDoes anyone have suggestions as to what I should learn next to start making this thing scalable (i.e. how to click on a state and zoom-in)?

There is an Image control that when I click on it I need to zoom in (using the center/transform point where the mouse is clicked). I have the zoom transition working great, but when I set transformX & tranformY (with autoCenterTransform false) it doesn't zoom into that point.
Here is my code that only zooms in (not to a specific point)
<fx:Script>
<![CDATA[
protected function imgLogo_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void {
transformer.play();
} ]]>

I am trying to create a zooming in effect on some text. To do this i am using the scaleX and scaleY Tween. The problem that I am having is instead of scaling outwards in all directions, it looks like its scaling downwards and to the right. I think this is because the centre of origin is in the top left corner.
Code:
import fl.transitions.Tween;
import fl.transitions.easing.*;
import fl.transitions.TweenEvent;
var myFormat:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
myFormat.size=15;

Lately i've been trying to right in external classfiles to create everything and make everything work instead of stuffing everything in my timeline. So now i have made a classfile that first creates all the movieclips i wan't on the stage and then defines what all the buttons do.
But when i want to acces a variable that has been created in "createMc" from a private function i get an error, so i have fixed this by giving the var's a name and then use getChildByName().
But i think this looks like a really innificiant way off writing something and was wondering if it was possible to write this in a better, shorter, and thus more effective way.

I have a fairly complex Flex application that uses many different components. I want the application to be able to custom styling and/or skinning. I also want to be sure that the styling approach makes the most efficient use of system resources (memory, CPU, network), and that it does not adversely impact performance. We currently are using a hybrid approach to styling the application that uses both CSS and a Flash skin created in CS3. It seems odd to me to have a two-pronged approach to styling an application and ideally would like to settle on one approach or the other. Some outline about advantages and disadvantages of using either exclusively CSS or a Flash skin? Is there a justification for using both within the same app?
Using CSS exclusively seems advantageous because it is approachable by anyone with a basic understanding of other uses of CSS, especially when using the Flex 2 Style Explorer. On the other hand, I know that the CS3 skin we use declares up/over/down/disabled/pressed skins for each component where these states are needed and Flex manages the transitions to the appropriate skins as each state is (de)activated. However, my impression is that creation of a Flex skin in CS3 requires somewhat specialized skills and tools. So what would you recommend for styling a Flex application if performance, customization, and efficient resource utilization are priorities?

It's hardcoded every tween / fade function , one for each of the images, and pause functions...when basically it does the same thing for each image...So thought I'd have a go here with you guys which are much more experienced than myself on this field.This is the code I currently use: (displays first image..then fades it out...fade in the next image...pauses...fades out..fades in next..pauses..etc etc.. )

I've run into some trouble with making a preloader for my flash file. First I went ahead and made an external preloader that loaded in the swf file - but then all my audio did not play (they are called upon as sound objects). Found this out because the file is loaded into the preloader but not the audio files from the library???
But if I put the preloader in the actual flash file it's kind of useless as it wants to preload all the audio on the first frame. Now I went ahead and changed it to load on frame 2 or 3 (using the publish settings to set "Export frame for classes") but now the audio will not play at all!
Are preloaders doomed to fail in AS2 when there is audio files being called within the library as sound objects??
