ActionScript 3.0 :: Unload External SWF To Free Up Flash Player Memory

Apr 29, 2009

I'm having real problems with unloading external SWFs, I've spent 2 days looking for a solution and looking at this forum and using the code supplied and Flash help files and much much reading and trying, I still cannot achieve the desired results.I have a Menu.swf which hosts many buttons which loads External SWFs ... simple enough and fairly common.These External SWFs are the same size as the menu and so loads completely over the top of Menu.swf which is exactly what I want to happen.I have a button on these External SWFs which I want to, delete the External SWF from the Flash player's memory and remove all event listeners (which I guess will happen if the External SWF is deleted from memory)The reason why I want it to remove the movie completely from memory is that I have 18 items and by the time it loads the 18th item, the player is going slower then trying to swim in hummous.[code]

Actionscript 3.0 :: Load Unload External SWFs Slows Down Flash Player 10?

Jul 6, 2010

I have written a basic piece of code to load and unload different swfs, now on their own they're pretty smooth (opened independently) , but when you load and unload them a couple of times in the main fla, just like as a user would navigate through a website, it causes the whole flash player and the movies to slow down quite dramatically and looks very bad as if about to crash. Now i know this problem was reported in FP 9, but anyone else has encountered this in FP 10 as well ?

Here's how i load and unload the external SWFs using buttons :

Code: Select allbt1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onLoadClick);
function onLoadClick(evt:MouseEvent):void

ActionScript 3.0 :: Free Memory During Slideshow?

Mar 15, 2012

I've got this simple script (I left all original comments) that create a slideshow with timer (this is only part of the whole script), it manages the slides loading in the containers on the stage.The problem is that after each loaded slide the ram of the pc increase by 10 Mb! I tried to solve the problem using:

Code:
slideLoader.removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, fadeSlideIn);
slideLoader=null;

in the fadeSlideIn function or the same applied to the currentContainer, but without success.

Code:
// reference to the current slider container
var currentContainer:Sprite;

ActionScript 3.0 :: Free RAM Memory During Slideshow?

Mar 21, 2012

the slideshow loads high resolution images (300-500 Kb) from folder with xml. Every time each slide is loaded and shown, the PC ram increase by 10 Mb!I used the commented lines and it works, the memory does not increase, but there are 2 other problem:

- the fade transition between the 2 images: the image in background is lost so that the transition is between white background and the image loaded at the top level (awful effect)

- in the image folder there is a swf too, before the commented code is was correctly loaded and shown.

Code:
function init():void {
slideTimer = new Timer(TIMER_DELAY);
slideTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, switchSlide);

ActionScript 3.0 :: Free Memory From Arrays?

May 31, 2010

I am making a game. Whenever a level is created, a few large arrays are filled up with numbers. The memory usage is around 3mb. When I want to load a new level, I want to remove these arrays from memory and repopulate them with the data from a new level. But, no matter what I do, the game keeps on using up an extra ~3mb of memory each time I reload a level.

The arrays are not being removed from memory. I have tried setting every element of every array to null, I have tried setting the arrays themselves to null, I have tried using myarray.splice(0) to remove the elements from the array, but the memory is still not being freed.

Why would this be happening? The memory usage is not from movieclips, it is just arrays with numbers in them. And it seems to me like it is impossible to delete them.

Why would this be happening? How do I force flash to remove the arrays from memory

ActionScript 3.0 :: Get Memory Free Up With Remove Clip?

Dec 9, 2008

I have a very simple movie clip in my library with a linkage id of view. with a bmp in it 2000x760.I have a text field to which i'm outputting System.totalMemory via EnterFrame event.and two buttons one to attach the view and the other to remove it. Everything works fine and I am doing everything i know how to clean up after myself as far as the linked view goes when removing it which isn't much just removeChild and setting the ref to it to null.Now the issue is that when i run the swf either in ide or stand alone i get a memory jump when the clip is attached which is fine and great but when i remove the clip memory never gets freed >< I know this has to do with a greater CS issue with gc and all that, but How can i get memory free up with i remove the clip?Lastly I am runing System.gc() when i remove the clip (this can't be the answer? / its not doing anything)

Free Flash 'image Player'

do you know about some free flash web application which can load images directly from folder and animate them (as a video player)? I mean, I have a folder with set of images and I want to animate them (switch one by one) in e.g. alphabetic order. Set of images will be randomly cumulate in time therefore I want to automatize this process and that's also why I can't use common video player which works with loading of video file.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Image Refresh Doesn't Free Memory?

Javascript :: Free Web Based Open Source Flash Player?

I need to find a flash video player that is free and open source. I love flowplayer and jwplayer but we fit into their most expensive licenses. It will cost us over $1400 to license flowplayer for our use. We don't have that right now.

I just need a flash player with a basic javascript api that is truly free. I have been googling for hours and nothing so far.

It would be a huge plus if someone knows of a chromeless youtube player that uses the youtube as3 api. I don't have time right now to code an entire chromeless player complete with all the controls and a progress bar.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Swf Won't Unload From Memory?

Oct 28, 2005

I've created and empty movie clip named "movieHolder" as a container to load in external swf files.

the intent is to load and unload different swf files into the "movieHolder" container with the following button code.

//---------
this.createEmptyMovieClip("movieHolder", this.getNextHighestDepth());
buttonOne_btn.onRelease = function():Void {

[Code]....

Selecting - buttonOne- loads the external "galleryOne.swf" file as expected, but when buttonTwo is selected it should unload the "galleryOne.swf" file that is currently loaded in the container and load the "galleryTwo.swf" file in its place.

when buttonTwo is selected it loads the "galleryTwo.swf" file and you see it for just a second, but the "galleryOne.swf" file returns to the display.

Does unloadMovie remove the targeted file from the flash player memory? It not, how do I dump it?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Unload Swf From Memory After <div> Is Hidden

Dec 8, 2009

I tried a search but it keeps saying I failed the No Spam when I didnt get a question - d'oh. Ok, this has probably been covered before, but a lot of research hasn't got me far, so I thought I'd post. I have a single page html site with several links that load up a homebrewed lightbox. The inline content is written out at the bottom of the page and the divs are set to hidden.

When a link is clicked, the light box loads and the correct <div> is set to visible. The flash plays, or is interacted with but when the user has finished, they click an html Close button and the div is hidden again. Obviously the swf is still loaded and running; it could be even mid animation. The more swfs loaded, the more memory that is taken up.

My development machine can handle the 600mb + used up by have a few FF windows open and a couple of copies of the site; but I imagine it will cause problems for users. So I've been looking into externalInterface to fire a command into the swf to close itself down when the close button is clicked, but I can't seem to find anything

Actionscript 3 :: Flash Video Player Memory

Apr 14, 2011

I made a video player with a playlist. After around 45 min the sound stops! The video continues playing. I play short clips (about 3 to 4 min each). The player is based on 2 frames: Frame 1 defines the variable VidReference with the filename:

[CODE]...

Once the video is done playing it goes to Frame 1 (to put the new value to the VidReference variable) and goes back to frame 2 to play the new video. Am I supposed to delete the video object each time it loads a new video? Am I actually declaring a new video object each time I'm looping (frame 1 > 2) and adding each video to the RAM, and in the end overwhelming the flash player? I've heard about garbage collecting but I wouldn't know how to delete the video object so it is cleared (and the video itself too) from the memory. When I check System.totalMemory it's adding up each time a new video is loaded, I can't figure out how to delete old videos from the memory.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Memory Leak When Testing On Flash Player 10?

Sep 1, 2011

I'm quite confused on what differences there can be between different versions of the flash player. Since I started coding my last game I've been testing it on chrome and firefox with good results (flash player 10.3.xxx). The memory needed to run it is always around 20 MB and also the cpu usage is pretty low. Also with the player 11 beta on ie the memory needed is around 50 Mb. But when i try to test it on the flash player 10 something is not working, the memory used by the game keeps growing and the garbage collection seems to be in holiday. Can this be related to the fact i'm coding it with the last cs5 (in as2)? Or since it's a board game i needed some listeners that could create this problem?

I watched in my task manager as Flash player went from only using 20mb to upwards of 500mb to 1000mb and it kept going up, it's like the more i watch it just keeps going up and up. Tried it on 3 different computers and still get the same problem, is there some reason this would be happening? Why does flash player eat up so much memory? I have Adobe Flash CS4 installed so it's playing through the player not a web browser or anything. (tried it in web browser and it does the same thing)

So, is there a problem (memory or performance) if I do not delete my 5 loader childs in order to lead them only 1 time?
