ActionScript 3.0 :: Video In Flash - Detect When Playback Has Completed And Then Take The Viewer Back To The Main Menu

I have a couple of questions with regards to video playback in Flash using AS 3. I'm not very good with flash coding so I've used the default video importer to import the video (file > import > import video). However I'm trying to put an event handler in that will detect when playback has completed and then take the viewer back to the main menu. I know it has something to do with NetStatusEvent but not sure how to connect it with the video.
Additionally when a viewer is watching a video, if they click a button below the video it takes them, say, back to the main menu. However the video continues to play in the background. I have put a 'video.pause();' on any button that takes the viewer away from the video, however the video is still loading in the background which isn't the ideal.

I'm working on a web menu, that has sub menus. I'm currently trying to get the sub menu to jump back to the main menu if the mouse is no longer inside the submenu zone.
It works if I move the mouse quickly to another part of the Flash area, but if I quickly move it out of the Flash area and onto say the html document, it doesn't update fast enough, and thus still thinks the mouse is hovering over it.
I know I can simply update the movie frame rate which does work, but I was wondering if there is any way to get Flash to check to see if the mouse IS ACTUALLY ACTIVE over it, and if not close the submenu?

I am working on a Flash project, it has a module, that will play some video and display image as advertisements, and I set a listener that will trace when the video is playing, if the playing ends, and listener will do something.

if the image-sliding never shows up, everything is just fine. if the image-sliding shows-up, the advertisement module will get stuck at the video's end, and that will only happen to my own video.if the advertisement module get stuck at my video's end, then I can click the progress bar to get the video play again(no need to replay the whole, just a few seconds is ok), and then the advertisement module will continue to work correctly again.

I'm working on a little project where I have a list of working text I converted to buttons and scituated vertically along the left hand side of the stage. Each button when pressed, triggers a different image with some text. This all works great. The problem is that I have a "Back to Main Menu" button located at teh bottom center of the stage. When depressed, I want this button to clear out the image and text on the stage and leave the user looking at just the original list of buttons along the left hand side of the stage.
I can easily get the main menu button to do this for my first image and text. Here's the code for that:

I'm a begginer flash game developer-ish individual working on my first project - An economic game with RPG elements, I'm mixing AS 3.0 with Flash CS5 (for the graphics, buttons, tweens and the simple stuff in general since it's easier for me atm than scripting it). The trouble started when I had to script in variables. I've sorted out a couple of issues but a few still remain:
1. I need to limit three of my main skills to 0-100. Only managed to stumble across tutorials for AS2,
2. Each character will have 3 main skills, and then the 18 secondary skills will be calculated from those 3 values. This works fine, when I modify existing variables directly in the code. The thing is that I created those buttons that add or subtract from a certain skill value, but when I press them the var changes but all of the 18 skills remain unchanged (as if they do not refresh themselves - i was thinking about an eventListener waiting for a change in skill value but if I would have to do one for every one of the 18 skills in conjunction with the 6 buttons to change levels - so 144 functions - im thinking maybe an array...but I'm such an actionscript newb that I can hardly translate the tutorials into my ideas.
3. Also wondering how to create a pool of unused skill points so when I add points I can't max it out right off the bat but rather take it from that value instead and once it's 0 you can't add points anymore.
4. Last but not least, I'm having trouble creating global values. My main menu is in scene1 and when I press Newgame it goes to scene2, the problem starts when i go back to main menu errors keep showing up (since scene 1 has no information about statistics but a function probably keeps asking )which means that the program can't get access to an attribute or a method of reference for the null object at MainMenu_fla (don't be fooled by the file name, I have everything in 1 fla file)Of course an error pops up for every skill, main or secondary.

i have a mx:AdvancedDataGrid control with animation on resize. And i need to resize another contol A accordingly with mx:AdvancedDataGrid size. But resizing of contol A is too slow.
Threrefore, the addition of resize handler is bad solution. I want to get the time when the animation is completely stopped either the new size of mx:AdvancedDataGrid control.

I am trying to create a video that can be streamed on a website. The video started with a screen grab of the video on frame one. This has the action on stop();. When this screengrab is clicked, gotoAndStop(2); is fired and the timeline moves to frame 2 and the video starts to stream. All is well... Except from when the video finishes...
When the video finishes I have tried using the code
on (complete) {
gotoAndPlay(1);
}
To go back to the origonal screen grab on frame one but it doesnt seem to budge.

I am using Flex to create a sort of photo viewer that loops through an array of photos when users click on arrow buttons. However, I wanted to make it so if an image is broken then it would be skipped, but I can't seem to find a way of checking if the image is broken.

I am using Flash Professional 8 and Dreamweaver 8 to maintain a website. I have just started using flash to show video highlights from high school football games which I record. Using iMovie I export the video as quicktime file and then import to flash to convert to a flash video file to post on the web site. The video coming out of iMovie has very good contrast and the quicktime movie has the same good contrast. When looking at the file in Flash the contrast changes dramatically. I becomes washed out. I am using Max OX 10.6 operating system.

I want to make a flash form where the viewer/user can watch a video clip of their choice (from a drop-down control or something else if there's a better way). I've found myself totally unable to find our how to do this. I mean, frankly, I don't even know what kind of file to start from the "New..." form at the beginning of Flash (CS 3.0, btw)!
I know how to create a Flash Player and link it to a single video. What I envision is that after the page comes up, with a single player component (initially empty), the user chooses a video from the drop-down list and that video starts playing in the player. What kind of file should I be starting with? {I kinda assume I'll be making an SWF to put on a web page.} Where on earth do I learn how to get the simplest things (e.g., button clicks, etc.) to work?

So basically, I have a navigation.swf file with a large menu. I've set up a product_viewer.swf so that once a couple variables are defined, the viewer displays the correct images/descriptions.
I want a button in the navigation to set 4 variables and pass them to the loaded product viewer
This is what I THOUGHT would work:

So.. I was thinking I could set up each button so that they set these 4 global variables. If the variables are global, then shouldn't the product_viewer.swf read them? Do I need to add in any special code to the first frame of product_viewer?

So I have an animation I'm working on, its dialog driven and I want a vertical menu of questions the viewer clicks on. When its clicked it plays a specific sequence of animation, that part I have covered. Depending on the question clicked however, I want the menu to update with follow up questions.
-several menu items need to open up new menu items.
-the new menu items appear beneath the previous item.
-each new menu item needs to highlight text.
-each used menu item needs to dim text.
I'm mostly a script kiddy, I find stuff similar to what I need and take it apart and rebuild it to my needs. But I haven't found anything of this sort. The closest thing I have is creating a menu with an array.
I thought to assign the initial array values to questions as they would appear on a complete list. The idea is at the end of a string of dialog to run a check on a specific array value, if it comes up false, create that value and hence the new menu item is in it's proper place on the list (including appropriate highlight/dim text color). The problem is that when I run a trace I get a bunch of undefined values in-between. I don't want a menu with "undefined" text labels/buttons, is there a way to run a check for undefined during the menu loop and tell it to skip to the next value?
is this the best way to handle this project? I'd rather not create a complex movie clip of every possible menu configuration and run a ton of value checks with goto frames.

In my CS4 flash document I have created a media gallery. It's a very simple interface that has mouse overs on thumbnail pictures, and then the larger picture will fadeUP in the center of the document. (With use of framelabels in the timeline).
In the same document, I want the user to be able to click on a video thumbnail, and that video plays back in the center of the document. Several questions: If the user clicks on the thumbnail "onrelease," the time line goes to the player, is it possible to stream this video from a youtube clip into my media player on the screen? If not and I have the document in a fl4 format, is there a simple process to have this video open? (I currently do not have the document in fl4 format).

I have a button that plays a movie clip. that movie clip is a drop down menu. Is there a code that I can put on the button that will allow the viewer to rollover the button activate the menu and then when they roll off the "menu" part it plays the animation in revers. I have a video embedded in Flash as an FLV. I'm able to get the video to play through the way I want, but when the video plays through and ends, I want to have two options/"buttons" display that allow the user to either replay the video a la youtube, or link to another web page.
I know it must a very basic question but I can't seem to find any answers. I've included a screen capture of the end of the video.

i built this navigation bar where there is an arrow and menus - when u roll over a menu the arrow slides to it....now what i'm trying to do is that when u press a menu and then u roll over another menu and when u roll out that menu it slides back to the pressed menu - like a magnet affect..

Anyone know how to vary the playback speed of video in Flash? I'm looking to implement this in an educational website where users can slow down the video or breeze through it by changing the playback.

I would like to play back 3 reasonably high res videos (On2 VP6-S) simultaneously in one Flash App (using flash.video, netstream and netconnect - code only). Unfortunately, when I do this, the video playback drops a lot of frames, however, CPU usage does not go much above 50% - spread over both cores. I'm using a Core2Duo. If I play the same 3 videos simultaneously in 3 separate flash apps (FP10), they play much better (and use close to 100% CPU). I even tried creating it as an AIR app with 3 separate windows (NativeWindow), but that made little difference. I have lodged this as a bug via the Flash Bug Reporting System [URL].
And yes, I do need to be doing something as crazy as this - it is for a pretty cool kiosk app, so I know what hardware will be used (and it has a good Graphics Card). One promising workaround appeared to be playing back a single NetStream in multiple Video instances, as it is NetStream that does the decoding, so I could decode once and present it in 3 places. Two of my video objects are actually the same flv (on different monitors), so there would be a 33% saving right there. If necessary, I could encode both flvs into a single 1920x1200 flv (I've checked - it would play back ok) and then use video.mask to show the relevant bits.
