ActionScript 3 :: Possible To Convert XML To FileReference Object?

I have a working s3 uploader in actionscript that uses the FileReference class so a user can browse for files to upload when he/she clicks on the upload button. I have a web application and I want the user to have his/her configuration saved to s3 as an XML file when they hit the save button, so the "save" button will trigger the upload. However, I cant figure out a way to add the XML file to the FileReference variable I create. I was looking at the File class but that appears to be only usable in AIR. Is it possible to create a FileReference object based off of an XML file that actionscript creates within the application without browsing for a file using FileReference.browse(); ?

It would appear that FileReference.upload() is the only way in which you can upload a file to the server in Flash and get feedback about its upload state via a PROGRESS callback. All other methods just go off into the ether and come back when the file upload is completed.
Unfortunately, FileReference appears to insist that a user select the file to be uploaded. There doesn't appear to be a mechanism by which to set the file through code. The reason I need this is that I'm allowing the user to upload massive files and am uploading them in chunks, so, I want to just pack a chunk of data into a FileReference (maybe 5 or 10 megs) and send that off and watch it go. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether it's possible to manually load data into a FileReference object? The data property is read-only, sadly.

In Action Script, FileReference.browse() is called. I would like to send the chosen file to Javascript and convert it to File object, just like if I would press the Browse button of the <input type='file /> and got File object. I need that to be able to display picture thumbnail like shown here. Maybe instead of passing the whole object it is possible to send only the required information for the thumbnail from the object?

Is there any way to get the file path of an object that is selected through the browse() method in the FileReference class. I don't think it can be done with a FileReference object, but is there another class that allows this, or any possible way to do this using XML?

I am trying to remove an event listener on a FileReference object by calling a function, but it seems not to be removed, and I do not understand why.
Here is the code:

When I run this code, the trace actually happens. I don't understand why this boolean returns true, when I just tried to remove the eventListener just above! I believe it has to do with the fact that the dispatchEvent function is defined inside another function when I add the listener:

The problem is that I need to access this "index" variable from the listener, and I can't set it as a global variable as each file has it's own index and it's a burden if I have to extend each event class to keep track of the index (Event, ProgressEvent, ..). I actually found a temporary solution, I am not sure if it is the best! I put my removeListener method actually inside the upload method, but made it a variable. As AS3 allows dynamic object, I attached this method to one of my object, and so I just call the reference to the method when necessary. The event is actually removed.

I would like to store a FileReference object somehow and load it when the SWF loads again. I tried to use the SharedObject class but it does not seem to work. I suspect that what I want to do is not doable due to security issues (not using Adobe AIR), but I wanted to check. Any way to store a FileReference object please and load it when the SWF is restarted?

I am trying to use the load method of FileReference object to load the data and use it to display a thumbnail of the selected image.However, after calling fr.load(), fr.data remains null.I'm using Flex Builder 3.0.2 on Windows 7 with Flex SDK 3.4 and Flash Player 10 Debug. If I evaluate fr.load() in Eclipse's watch variables list, I get an error reading "No such variable: load."

If I set the rotation for any object on the stage, flash renders it as a 3d object, even if I set the rotation to 0 like this..[code]3d objects render differently and look fuzzier when you look at it dead on than when it is rendering as a 2d object. How do I convert the 3d object back to 2d so that I get the better quality 2d rendering back?

After pulling my hair out for quite some time, I did a trace (typeof) and found out that the coordinates are going into the array as objects. Obviously, I need numbers. Does anyone know how to convert the array values to numbers instead of objects? (as you can see, I wrapped my push command with the Number() operator, but it still turns out to be objects!)

Is there a way to convert the XML object into a simple object? I'm parsing a string into XML and I realize that in itself is an object, but I want an object that doesn't include the functions/properties related to XML itself (appendChild, attribute, etc).
The problem is that I want to pass the XML data (in object form) to Javascript via the ExternalInterface, but I can't seem to pass anything more complicated than a simple object.

I am writing a script in which i want to do collision detection with Bitmap. Actually i took the script from book. I am using Loader class instead of Embed tag because i am using Flash IDE CS 5. What is happening is, when I convert any object to any type of symbol, it disappears on my stage. It tests fine, but the symbol is invisible. This makes it difficult for me to see the overall design. Last time there was a folder that was just filled with about 10k blank files somewhere in the preferences for flash, but I can't seem to find it to delete those random files/ that folder. I'm on a Mac, and uninstalling/reinstalling flash does not work.

I have a set of 50 PNG image slices (cross sections) of a brain that I would like to stack together to re-create a 3D object (the whole brain) that can be rotated, zoomed inside a webpage. I will need to create the 3D object? Can I use Adobe? What will the file format be for the completed 3D object, does it need to be .3DS? And what web programming language do i need to display this 3D object once I create it? Can I use javascript to code the webpage interactivity part (zoom, rotate in 3 axes)?
