ActionScript 3 :: Store FileReference Object And Load When SWF Restart?

Jun 29, 2010

I would like to store a FileReference object somehow and load it when the SWF loads again. I tried to use the SharedObject class but it does not seem to work. I suspect that what I want to do is not doable due to security issues (not using Adobe AIR), but I wanted to check. Any way to store a FileReference object please and load it when the SWF is restarted?

Actionscript 3 :: FileReference Object Be Sent To Javascript And Converted To File Object?

Jul 13, 2010

In Action Script, FileReference.browse() is called. I would like to send the chosen file to Javascript and convert it to File object, just like if I would press the Browse button of the <input type='file /> and got File object. I need that to be able to display picture thumbnail like shown here. Maybe instead of passing the whole object it is possible to send only the required information for the thumbnail from the object?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Restart The Game Without Getting A Bunch Of Null Object Errors?

Apr 14, 2011

I am almost done my short AS3 "Flight of the Conchords" game I just want to attempt to do one last thing...to successfully restart the game without getting a bunch of null object errors. The way it restarts now is that if you die or win the game then a screen pops up and a button takes you to the previous scene (menu), the problem is that once it goes to the previous scene all these null object errors occur.

P.S. This is my second time working with AS3, and I was able to do this following a YouTube tutorial by Borris123psn.

ActionScript 3 :: Possible To Convert XML To FileReference Object?

Oct 5, 2011

I have a working s3 uploader in actionscript that uses the FileReference class so a user can browse for files to upload when he/she clicks on the upload button. I have a web application and I want the user to have his/her configuration saved to s3 as an XML file when they hit the save button, so the "save" button will trigger the upload. However, I cant figure out a way to add the XML file to the FileReference variable I create. I was looking at the File class but that appears to be only usable in AIR. Is it possible to create a FileReference object based off of an XML file that actionscript creates within the application without browsing for a file using FileReference.browse(); ?

ActionScript 3 :: Clearing EventListeners On FileReference Object

Jun 16, 2010

I am trying to remove an event listener on a FileReference object by calling a function, but it seems not to be removed, and I do not understand why.

Here is the code:
private function clearFileUploadListeners(file:FileReference, index:String):void {
var dispatchEvent:Function = function(event:Event):void {
dispatch(event.type, event, index); };
file.removeEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, dispatchEvent);
var bool:Boolean = file.hasEventListener(Event.COMPLETE);
if (bool)
trace("ERROR");
}

When I run this code, the trace actually happens. I don't understand why this boolean returns true, when I just tried to remove the eventListener just above! I believe it has to do with the fact that the dispatchEvent function is defined inside another function when I add the listener:

private function upload(file:FileReference, index:String):void {
var dispatchEvent:Function = function(event:Event):void {
dispatch(event.type, event, index); };
file.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, dispatchEvent);
}

The problem is that I need to access this "index" variable from the listener, and I can't set it as a global variable as each file has it's own index and it's a burden if I have to extend each event class to keep track of the index (Event, ProgressEvent, ..). I actually found a temporary solution, I am not sure if it is the best! I put my removeListener method actually inside the upload method, but made it a variable. As AS3 allows dynamic object, I attached this method to one of my object, and so I just call the reference to the method when necessary. The event is actually removed.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Load And Save Text Using FileReference Class?

Feb 20, 2010

Let me start by saying I have no intention of using php and I can't wait until flash cs5 comes out with its new read/write capabilities want to load and save XML files (stored on my local hard-drive) in AS3.I am using the FileReference class.Firstly I have noticed that when using FileReference.save if you replace an existing file instead of writing over the file data is appended to the end of the file. Can I make it so the file is overwritten (as it should be) or make it impossible for the user to save in such a situation.Secondly I want to load in text from an external file using FileReference.load I know that somehow you use FileReference.browse first to get it to work but I want to know exactly how to do it.I have looked for a tutorial about loading text in this manner and have not found one.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Using Filereference To Load Image From Server Not Local Disk

Jun 28, 2011

I am currently using filereference in as3 to load a file from the users local disk and display instantly within a loader on the stage. This works fine but i am now needing to load files that are already stored on a server not the local disk, is this possible?

I have tried loading the url into a loader object but this takes far too long if the image is quite big where is filereference is almost instant.

My current code is:

Code:
var mFileReference:FileReference;
browseButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onBrowseButtonClicked);
function onBrowseButtonClicked(event:MouseEvent):void {

[Code]....

Is there anyway i can take out the browse and selected stages and just load the server based image?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Store Array In An Indexed Object Called Regions

Nov 3, 2009

I have an array name region it has a couple of properties. "code", "name", "value"

I want to store this array in an indexed object called regions.

I would then like to access the object by referring to its sub property name

regions[1].code
regions[1].name
regions[1].value

I can set an array region.code, region.name and region.value but I can not set the regions values

regions[1].code = "abc"
regions[1].name ="alphabet"
regions[1].value =26

note: region is singular and regions is plural(many)

Can someone outline the variable definition and construct so I can access this information. Happy to replace the index field with the code value.
