I want to know how(and what scripts) to take words from a text input box and cause it to display and image Ex: if the text box said "smiley face" in it, then the image "smiley_face.jpg" would display on a certain movieclip and can be dragged around the stage and when a new image is loaded, it doesn't replace the previous image on the movie clip.
View 2 RepliesI have a string of text, but within this text I want to input a variable at a specific portion of the text. Now this string of text is taken from an XML file. So the XML file would look like this for example:

The <desc> is an example of a way I tried to make it work. What I want to happen is when I display the desc in my flash file, it inputs the alias (which in the xml is the name) of the item. In PHP this could be doing using EVAL() but I notice the support for that type of function is removed in AS3.

View 2 RepliesI have a INPUT TEXT inside a mc called "txt mc" and DYNAMIC TEXT in the main time line.I'm trying to display what's typed in the INPUT TEXT (my_Input_Txt) in the DYNAMIC TEXT boxes (my_Dyn_Txt1, my_Dyn_Txt2, my_Dyn_Txt3).Here's the code. But it won't simply work perhaps because the INPUT TEXT is inside a MC. I need to have the INPUT TEXT INSIDE THAT MC while having the DYNAMIC TEXT boxes out in the main time line.

I 'm trying to make it so an image will scroll with a specific line of text in a text field. I know that using delta of the scrollEvent will give me direction but everytime i try to increment and decrement the y value of the image the image doesn't follow the line of text perfectly it tends to "crawl" if you will.

I am capturing the user's name with a Text Input field and want to use their name later on in my movie.
The input text field is within a movie clip that I placed on the main timeline. I want to use this input (their name) later on in my main timeline.
I'm building a calculator in AS 3.0. On frame 1, the user inputs data into the input text boxes and hit's the "calculate" button (also located on page 1).The calculations are displayed in the dynamic text fields on frame 1but aren't appearing on frames 2 and 3. Anyone know how to get the calcs to show up on frames other than where the calculation button is located?

Here is the background. I am creating a Flash game, and I have a text box I am using to display text when the shooter misses the enemy. I would like to have the graphic pop up in the text box rather than the formatted text.
I was thinking of using the background property, but I wanted to see if this was even possible.

The search and rest of the things are ok but the problem that the result comes along with the picture that is reading from XML file. Sometimes the result contains more that one person's details with photographs. So scrolling the content area is necessary. I've tried to display both, the pciture and result (text) but the scroll bar component doesn't support picture. <img> tag i've tried but no result. Is there any other option for display the image and text withing a scrolling area.

How do I display an image and text on the stage, that I load from an XML?I already know how to display a single image if the path to it is hardcoded in AS3:[URL] works just fine. It shows how you can display an image on the stage, that is in the same file as the SWf-file.
But the tutorial above does not cover xml. Who can show me how I can display the image on the stage, by retrieving ist path from an xml document? how to retrieve data from xml but they forget to mention how to actually display them on stage!

i created an image fade animation on the timeline... no actionscript involved.... now i want a series of text to slide up to the bottom of each image as the image fades in and out...if the image ia on image1, then text1 is displayed, before its gets to image2... text1 should be off..and image1 fades in image2...then text2 is displayed describing each image.. and so on...
i have tried alot of actionscript codes, but i think i need a special property to go about it...

View 2 Repliesthe last of many problems, is that at the very end of the test, you're shown your score, and you have the option to type your name in a text box and click "save". Doing so will apply you score data (time elapsed, date, correct answers and percentage) along with the name you typed in, and output in a form, that you can save or print off, or whatever. The problem is, the input text box will not let you type in it. If you mouse over it, the mouse stays a pointer, you don't get the text tool. If you click on it, the cursor appears for a split second after you release the mouse button, but you cannot type anything in it.This is the actionscript for the output form:
